San Diego locals — is my itinerary still doable with the upcoming rain and coastal flooding?

Visiting San Diego and a little worried about the weather, especially the coastal flood warnings. Would love some local advice!

Thursday (10/29)
Explore Little Italy + happy hour
Sunset Cliffs for sunset
Explore Gaslamp or grab dinner

Friday (10/30)
Ocean Beach — poke, relax by the beach, rent bikes
La Jolla Cove — see sea lions and walk around Scripps Park
Optional Windansea Beach
North Park nightlife

Saturday (10/31)
Coronado — Centennial Park, Hotel del Coronado, beach, and exploring
North Park nightlife / Halloween

Sunday (11/1)
Balboa Park
Kate Sessions Park for a sunset picnic
Explore Gaslamp or grab dinner

I’m mostly concerned about whether Ocean Beach, La Jolla Cove, Sunset Cliffs, and Coronado will be safe and accessible with the high tides and flooding.

Are these areas actually experiencing flooding right now, or is it mostly certain low-lying spots? Would you rearrange any days based on the weather forecast?

Also, will the coastal paths and viewpoints still be safe to walk around? We’re fine with some rain, just hoping we won’t have to cancel most of our outdoor plans.
Thanks in advance!

Spending Thanksgiving in San Diego as a French visitor

Hey everyone,

I’m a 26yo French guy visiting San Diego for the first time, and I’ll be landing on Thanksgiving Day (Nov 26). Great timing, I know.

I’ll be traveling solo, and I’d really love to experience an actual American Thanksgiving rather than just grabbing dinner at a restaurant. I know it’s mostly a family holiday, which is actually part of what makes me curious about it.

Does anyone know of any local gatherings, potlucks, or Thanksgiving dinners where a visitor might be welcome?

I’d obviously be happy to contribute, and I could even bring a nice bottle of French wine to share. Not looking for a free meal, just hoping to experience the holiday with some locals and meet new people.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

What are the best fancy-schmancy food places in Del Mar or La Jolla that are bus-friendly for a birthday dinner with a $100-$150 budget?

The title says it all. My birthday is later this week, and I'd like to go somewhere where reservations do not have to be made. I am fine spending up to $150 on food and drinks, even going so far as to splurge $200 total if I really like what they're providing. Ideally, I'd like to order dessert and get the birthday special.

For cuisines that I like, we have...

  • Italian
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Chinese

I am open to trying more, though!

I don't drink, and I don't eat pork, so I hope there will still be fun and tasty options! Additionally, if there's a formal dress code, that's fine, as I have these expensive silk gowns to wear. Naturally, I need to bus it there, so please do not give a place that's not near a bus stop or the trolley station.

Thank you so much, everyone, for your time, consideration, and suggestions!

FYI: I live in La Jolla, but I have only ever survived off of grocery runs to Ralph's. It's about time that I appreciate the local fine-dining scene.
