Opinion “You guys don’t need me. I’m not playing well. It doesn’t matter.” - Ketel Marte
"And one player, describing Marte as “very sensitive” and in constant need of positive reinforcement, offered a theory on Marte’s absence in Boston.
The player believes Marte’s emotions started bubbling during the previous series in Atlanta, when he left the first game after one inning with left knee soreness and did not play in the second. The Diamondbacks won both those games, then lost the finale after Marte returned.
Marte, according to the player, told some of his teammates, “You guys don’t need me. I’m not playing well. It doesn’t matter.”
The next day, he didn’t show at all."
------ Is Ketel Ok? This sounds like some depressive disorder type response.

Opinion What made YOU a Diamondbacks fan?
I'm sure this has been asked before but thought we could use some fun/positivity! What made you a Diamondbacks fan? Was it a specific memory? Was there a tradition of some sort? Are you a hometown ride or die?
For me, I remember being 6 watching the 2001 world series with my family. My parents erupted when Gonzo hit the walk off for the W. My grandparents were so in shock and wide eyed as my mom and dad were jumping around cheering. Then driving home and hearing everyone honking horns, cheering on the streets, celebrating, it was SO fun to see. Been watching on and off ever since but came back to actively watching in '22 when I heard about this absolute STUD rookie in Corbin Carroll.

Opinion Do the Dbacks have a yard sale like this?
Saw this Dodgers yard sale where they sell old bobbleheads, giveaways, jerseys and other stadium stuff for cheap.
Does anyone know if the D-backs ever do something similar at Chase Field? Or is there any store around Phoenix/Arizona that sells older D-backs bobbleheads, stadium giveaways or merch for cheap?

Opinion What was everyone's favorite win from this season?
Personally, any of the wins against the Dodgers made me happy, but most of all Waldys walk off because any day i get to see the Dodgers collapse is a good day.

Opinion Nootbaar trade
Before some of you guys start losing it over nootbaar not being a talented player and “under 700 ops”, he consistently has had an OPS around 750 against righties in his career and realistically that is what we got him for. Yes obviously burelson would have been better but assuming we would have had to give up Waldy or Troy or someone along those lines that would have been terrible. As far as bang for your buck. Nootbaar is the better decision for this season. Burelson is the better hitter all around but the lineup doesn’t need help against lefties with Corbin, ketel, gabbi, arenado, and the list could go on for our guys that hill well against lefties.

Opinion Which D-backs prospect do you think makes the jump in 2027?
I’ve been keeping an eye on Carlos Virahonda this year. Who else in the system do you think is ready to take a step forward? Curious if anyone has a sleeper they’re watching.

Opinion AppleTV Anger
Sure wish I could watch the game right now without having to spend $12.99 per month on another streaming service. Hard to be a fan when you're not allowed to watch them play even in the local market! Sad that MLB, NBA, NFL are selling out their fans in exchange for cash from the streaming providers.

Opinion Some perspective on 2026, and the Post-2023 Dbacks as a whole
Obviously there's plenty of blame to go around, and you can look at the roster construction with Hazen or you can look at the management decisions by Torey, or go all the way up the chain and talk about willingness to spend by Ken Kendrick. As much as we all (understandably) want to point fingers with the season now in the rear view, I think we have to allow ourselves to give the team just a tiny bit of grace as well, or at least those decision makers who are drawing all of our ire right now.
For all of their faults, Derrick Hall and his staff have had some absolutely nightmareish luck over these last 3 seasons. We've gone out and made massive moves at trade deadlines and in the last few offseasons that were brilliant on paper and just didn't pan out for reasons that nobody could really control. Nobody knew that Jordan Montgomery was going to suddenly forget how to pitch, and then be lost to injury. Nobody could have predicted that Corbin Burnes would have only started 14 games after 2 years with the team due to injury. And then we have our promising homegrown talent that just hasn't been able to stay healthy (looking at J-Mart, Lawlar as of late, Druw Jones in the minors, etc.)
As fans, we have every right to be upset with another year coming up a day late and a dollar short, but we can also acknowledge the reality of the situation. Since the WS run in '23, we have been huge spenders relative to our market size and have been aggressive at the deadline in '24 and '25. Our FO and our owner are committed to fielding a winning team, which is more than a lot of fanbases can say about their teams. I do believe that we'll see another Dbacks championship sometime in the next decade, and I hope our current duo of Hazen and Lovullo are the ones who get to put it all together. They really have done a stellar job in general, but obviously the mistakes and faults stand out the most when you miss the playoffs by 2 games or less 3 years in a row.

Opinion I know times are tough right now but we have to remember one thing: we are the team of friendship and 9/11! We can't lose!
Listen to me right now. Look me in the digital eyes, [r/azdiamondbacks](r/azdiamondbacks), and wake up to the truth staring us dead in our faces.
Every franchise in Major League Baseball has an identity. The Dodgers have infinite money and choking in October. The Yankees have 27 rings nobody under 30 remembers and an obsession with facial hair regulations. The Cardinals have "The Right Way™."
We have something far more primal, far more spiritually unbreakable: We are the baseball team of Friendship and 9/11.
Think about it. In the fall of 2001, the entire free world turned to New York City. America united around the Yankees. Rudy Giuliani was in the front row, George W. Bush threw the strike from the mound, and the script of destiny was practically laminated and notarized by the heavens for the Bronx Bombers to heal the nation. And what did the Arizona Diamondbacks do? We looked at the most emotionally charged, nationally mandated sympathy narrative in modern human history and said, "Actually, Luis Gonzalez is going to bloop this Mariano Rivera cutter into shallow center field, thank you very much."
We didn't care about national catharsis. We had Randy Johnson pitching out of the bullpen on negative-six hours of rest and the deep desire to hate the Yankees no matter what.
Fast forward to 2023, how did a 84 win wild card roster of handsome fellas sweep the Brewers and Dodgers, and then come back to win it all in Philadelphia? Was it analytics? Run differential? Platooning? No. It was the Power of Friendship. Geraldo Perdomo hugging everyone in sight, Corbin Carroll sprinting like a dog off the leash, Torey Lovullo coaching like a proud dad, friendship bracelets, and Alek Thomas creating a no-fly zone in center field to help his pitchers. We became the Answerbacks because we loved each other too much to strand our boys out on the bases.
Now look at what happened this month. You think the baseball gods aren't talking to us?
On September 11th, we rolled into Chase Field and dismantled the Rangers 9-1.
Then last night: Chase Field brings out the 2001 squad to remind everyone of the time we ripped the heart out of post-9/11 New York. The Yankees are in our building. And what happens? DFA survivor Pavin Smith—fueled by nothing but the brotherhood formed by trauma bonding in Triple-A—steps up to the dish in the bottom of the 9th and deposits a walk-off bomb into the right-field seats. Gabriel Moreno is throwing gum, the rafters are shaking, and somewhere Mariano Rivera just shuddered in a cold sweat.
The signs are everywhere. The math is settled.
As long as we stay friends in the dugout and channel the spirit of 9/11 we will never lose! Channel the spirit of Gonzo! Channel the aura of high-fives and matching friendship bracelets! Put on the teal, grab your best friend, and LET'S PLAY SOME GODDAMN BASEBALL. (But do not commit any acts of terrorism, that's not friendship) Now get out there and win! Let's go dbacks!

Opinion Just another day looking for potential additions
On todays episode, Teruaki Sato. Hes a corner infielder at 3B that can also play corner outfield. According to a few posts ive seen around reddit he can also slot in at 1B and DH. Food for thought but maybe this is the big splash Hazen needs in the overseas market. And yes i only bring this up because he was posted early because hes expected to have a contract before a potential lockout.

Opinion Whose fault is it really
So, more than likely the diamondbacks will not make the playoffs, hopefully a miracle happens and they do but probably not.
Now with that being said this team will probably end up with around 85/86 wins, so now since the 2023 season they will have missed the playoffs winning 89 and 85ish games.
More than likely Torrey will be fired if the dbacks miss the playoffs. My question is when the season started or when the season started in 2024, could you honestly look at the roster say that this team was expected to truly make the playoffs? Like the roster going into this season is on paper worse than every team currently ahead of them, also on paper prior to the season was worse than the Mets.
Here is the point I’m trying to make. You give a manager a roster that is probably on paper looking at it objectively the 8th best in the national league and then when the team finished 7th best in the national league you fire the coach. Like what exactly was expected to happen?
I believe the 2025 roster was the most complete roster and was the biggest disappointment mainly due to injuries and bad pitching but other than that this team has finished exactly where on paper they are expected to. So I’m not saying you can’t have the opinion that it’s time to move on from Torrey but just know that you are firing a guy that is doing pretty much exactly what is expected of him if not better considering the injuries and drama that this team has gone through.

Opinion 2027 Season
Does the collective think we'll see a season next year? If not, then that's that, but what if you think we do? Full season starting on time? Full season starting late? A a condensed season starting late like 2020?
Assuming we get baseball in 2027 and outside of the CBA expiring and that discussion, and also ignoring the GM and Manager discussion, let's talk 2027 free agency.
I think Arizona is going to need at least one outfielder to replace Gurriel. Lawlar showed he can hold down center field and he should be given a good chunk of innings there in 2027 with Arenado still holding down third most of the time. Corbin is locked in playing right field. Ryan Waldschmidt can play in left, but I think a good defender can platoon against righties would be great. Enter, Ian Happ. Good defender, he's a FA in 2027, switch hitter but he's most effective from the left side against righties and he's got pop. His expiring contract was steep, but I don't think he gets 20m AAV again, but maybe he would be too spendy.
First base is also a need unless you want Pavin back again. Don't hate me for this, but a one year platoon of two first basemen, one lefty and one righty. Nathaniel Lowe, and the emotional pick, Paul Goldschmidt. Both with still plenty of pop in their sticks and would be relatively inexpensive, leaving money for pitching.
Hopefully with healthy arms from Martinez and Burnes, combined with the much improved bullpen, maybe not much is needed here. I'd like to see a pursuit of Adrian Morejon to slot into the bullpen. Been great with SD the last couple seasons, so he wouldn't be inexpensive, but shouldn't be a bank breaker either.
Maybe another starter is needed, but maybe not. Pffadt and Rodriguez were great this season. A healthy Burnes will help in 2027. Kelly has one year left, and Ryne should be healthy again too. Couldn't hurt to look at Gilbert, Peralta, or Alcantera though. Unfortunately, King and Skubal will end up on teams with deeper wallets.
There's definitely some other moves to be made, including extending Moreno and trying to find some pop to get the offense back into gear. McCann is likely gone, so ADC probably becomes the primary backup, and a few more bullpen pieces to sure that up, but it's late and my brain no workey much more.

Opinion World’s reaction to 2001 World Series?
So I’m a little too young to remember the world’s opinions after the DBacks win in 2001 after 9/11. Was America widely disappointed afterwards? I am genuinely curious from people who lived it and I can’t find much on google. Thanks all

Opinion Any other radio listeners that just adore Mike Ferrin?
If you're in this thread, you very likely know, but if you don't, Mike Ferrin has been our radio voice for the last 4 games or so...
Don't get me wrong Garagiola a legend and it's been a family thing for three generations I believe.. but dude when Mike Ferrin is calling the game I love his random little snippets of information he gives. His little trivia factoids that he throws. And he's got a really amazing way of calling it his fire and excitement when things go right really gets me pumped up, yet he also has like a soft ness about him like a sweetness when he's explaining people that he genuinely cares about. I don't know I just love the way he calls game, from the way he actually calls the games whether it be a home run or a great play on defense. To the way he gushes about people that he thinks highly of. I'm really kind of torn because I know Garagiola is our guy... But I would much rather listen to a Mike Ferrin called game. Thoughts ?
