Question Rookie question

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone. New to the collecting world, focusing mainly on baseball of all eras. Recently I pulled a 2026 Topps chrome Othani #1 green numbered out of 99.

This is easily my most valuable card and I'm considering getting it graded just to have a graded card.

So the question..... PSA seems to be the gold standard, I have seen some Beckett, and at local auctions I have seen some KSA. For those of you that I've done this before, any recommendations or tips?

Mail Day Mail day! My first ever rip card.

Sorry to disappoint, it feels kinda cool keeping this intact. The idea that there could be fire inside (though more likely not) and just sliding into the Cardinals PC binder is kinda cool. Fun conversation piece.

Is this market manipulation? Or at least an attempt?

Question How to Start Collecting?

I’d like to get into collecting. I’m a big baseball fan, but never got into the cards.

Where’s a good place to start? Like what kind of packs or boxes? Are there brands that are better or more accessible?

Grabbed 3 More Holiday Boxes

Topps Holiday is loaded. I spent $90 on three mega boxes, the same price as an ancient times flagship hobby box. I pulled 90 red base and 90 green base, each one has a print run of 86,630. For comparison, the 1991 inserts out of S1 have a print run of 114,500. So these are technically rarer, and there's 180 of them. Hell, the red and green base have a lower print run than 2011 Topps Update base, which is nice for RC chasing. 9 variations and 2 numbered chrome cards too.

Well, everyone told me to take it out of the plastic screw down case, so I tried once with a cheaper ‘89 Score rookie. I think it went well.

It looks clean to me, but idk what to do with it now.

it’s on top of the top loader in the photo, I promise I sleeved it before loading it

1991 Upper Deck sticker

This is one of the most unique Rolen autos I own. Super early career auto. Second image for reference (1996 Best). Had to have been signed by him around 1995-96 when he was in the minors. Nabbed this off eBay a while ago for under $3.

Question Is this gradeable?

Thumbnail

I’m sorting through my dad’s HUGE junk wax collection and finally found a shoe box with this and some other Griffey cards in similar plastic cases.

I know this card jumps up with grading, but I’ve never sent anything to PSA before- worth it or keep it raw? Griffey’s my dad’s favorite player (HUGE Mariners fan), so not sure I’d sell it even if it 10’d, if that makes a difference.

He also has a sealed ‘89 Upper Deck set, so it’s not the only copy we have.

edit** **
Seems like grading might not be worth the hassle. What’s the best way to display it then? I’d like something a little cooler than just penny sleeve and top loader but open to suggestions

Question Topps Update Question

Post image
3 Upvotes

I apologize if this is stupid question, but I have just gotten back into collecting after a 20 year break. This card looks different and I cannot find anything on it. It’s not numbered so I assume it’s just a common card that I am not familiar with. Any help would be appreciated.

My great grandpa's collection. What am I looking at here?

My mom's had these stashed away forever. They're meant to be a hand down from my grandpa to be and my brother.

This is already causing a little controversy as my brother has zero interest in sports cards, but has sentimental value over the fact that they came from our grandpa. Meanwhile, I'm a pretty sports collector with my 10-year-old son and would make sure this collection is archived properly. He's not willing to give it to me, but said I could buy his half off of him.

Would love anyone's help just understanding the ballpark value here. I'm sending my mom some supplies. We live in different states but wanna make sure they start getting in cases.
