Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [October 27, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

• Upvotes

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

New Budgie Introducing my 5th and last budgie : Meet Pumba! I named him Pumba as a tribute to my late budgie Timon ( 3rd pic ) who was also a special needs budgie 💙

So yesterday me and my friend were hanging out for my birthday and he wanted to get a baby budgie for himself but despite searching every pet shop we found nothing that caught his eyes so as a last resort we decided to check the local petstore that I frequently visit to shop for my birds , cats and rabbits. They said they only have a breeding pair that were not for sale along with a disabled budgie but my friend said no and we left without seeing the budgies. This morning I was looking through my gallery and I saw Timon's pictures and even cried a bit cause I missed him then my thoughts came to the budgie that our local petstore had so I decided to check it out at night. I did not know the budgie's age , sex as I hadn't seen it but decided to buy it in honor of Timon. I went there and asked them if they still had the special needs budgie and they said yes so I asked the price but they said since I'm one of their regular costumers and since no one else wanted the budgie I could take it for free. I went to pick the budgie and saw this cute baby budgie who couldn't be more that a month old in a small dirty cage close to the cage of the breeding pair ( most likely the parents ) and I couldn't let him stay there any longer so I put him in a box and took him home. He's currently sleeping all snuggly in my hands and I'm absolutely smitten by him. He's such a calm sweet little baby! I named him Pumba as a small tribute to my lovely Timon and since this baby is also special needs like him I definitely need to make his enclosure as comfortable as possible for him.

💬 Discussion PSA: paint & plaster can cause heavy metal poisoning

Post image
324 Upvotes

As some of you may have seen, my sweet girl Taro was stuck in an ER rafter for 9 hours before I was able to get her to a better bird-safe facility. She was having seizures and deteriorating quickly to the point where I thought euthanasia was inevitable. The vet decided to try treating her for metal poisoning as a last ditch effort, as there was no cause found for the seizures.

Miraculously, her seizures stopped. I was crying tears of joy to know that my little girl has made a turn for the better. She is still breathing heavily and so her hospitalization will continue, but she is alert and active 🥹

Ever since I got my girls they have been menaces who chew the walls and trim around doors/windows. I gave up trying to stop them because it seemed impossible. After this incident, i am going to cover all their chewing areas up with cardboard and regularly check it to ensure they haven't chewed back through to the wall. If this doesn't work, they will be cage bound in their mansion.

Please don't let your laziness stop you, if you know your birds are doing something they shouldn't do, stop them! Take it from me, someone who almost lost their baby because of it.

TLDR: my budgie almost died from heavy metal poisoning because i was not vigilant in preventing her from chewing the walls/window trim

Which sex? Is My Budgie Sky a Boy or a Girl? 🩵🐦🩷

Hi everyone!

I’m a first-time budgie owner, and I recently got two adorable budgies!

This is Sky! The seller told me Sky was a girl, but I’m starting to have some doubts.

Sky’s cere is a bright, uniform bubblegum pink/purple, which makes me wonder if Sky might actually be a male Recessive Pied budgie.

I’m still learning, so I’d love to hear your opinions! Do you think Sky is a boy or a girl?

Thank you so much for your help! 🩵🩷

Btw the old cage is underneath as my white budgie came to me injured and can't fly so needs to use the cage to climb back into their cage. She's slowly practicing and getting stronger at flying but it's still a controlled fall 😂

I have asked this before on this subreddit, for the deeper blue one we were told a girl but our vet told us “she” was actually a “he”. Now that he is a bit older hopefully it’s a bit more clear. The lighter blue one is also quite young around ~3-4 months old

I'm learning more and more for my budgie making her as happy as possible, as of recent learned she absolutely loves her foraging toy that I stuff with millet she has to earn, anyway do you all use feeders that they have to mess around with? I read a simple bowl can borrow them i just want feedback from you experienced owners I'm learning things.

b0rb Everyone meet Chiclet:

Post image

This is my senior Chiclet, the handsomest (and sleepiest) man I ever could ask for. We got him in December of 2013 at just a couple months old and he’s been a “life of the party” type bird ever since, though with a few more naps these days 😅 he’s about to celebrate his 13th birthday very soon. I’m not sure exactly which day it is unfortunately but I know it’s within the next week or two.
