Discussion Why do people think Bob Chesney will leave UCLA?

Am I missing something?

I keep seeing posters talk about who is going to win the Chesney sweepstakes as if it's fait accompli that he'll leave UCLA soon. But why would he? UCLA has an enormous alumni base that has no doubt been energized and activated by Chesney's hot start, their 2027 recruiting class is currently 5th in the B1G ahead of USC, Penn State, and Indiana, and LA is probably one of the best places to live if you're STANKY rich. Chesney has less than no reason to leave, let alone for some of the other B1G programs that have opened or appear to be opening soon. Or am I the crazy one here? I expect UCLA to pull in an excellent transfer portal class to keep things rolling until Chesney's HS recruits mature

Discussion Gameday in Bloomington

Alright Indiana. Do us all a favor and lean hard into mcafee chants this weekend. What a damn snowflake. Compares himself to someone that got assassinated to the light criticism he got from Utah fans. ESPN doesn’t even support your conference or your team, go get him and call his ass out for being weak.

Discussion TANK JOB OF THE WEEK: WEEK EIGHT

The Tank Job of the Week is an award for the FBS team that did the best job of humiliating itself over the weekend. Whether they blew a large lead, choked away a spot in the limelight, lost a game they had absolutely no right losing, or completely screwed everything on a last second blunder, the TJOTW winner sets the gold standard in college football misery

Previous Winners
Week 0: TCU Horned Frogs (lost to North Carolina 15-10)
Week 1: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (lost to Massachusetts 37-21)
Week 2: Oregon Ducks (lost to Oklahoma State 39-31)
Week 3: NC State Wolfpack (lost to Vanderbilt 35-31)
Week 4: Penn State Nittany Lions (lost to Wisconsin 24-20)
Week 5: Florida Gators (lost to Missouri 45-17)
Week 6: Texas Longhorns (lost to Oklahoma 27-24)
Week 7: Georgia Bulldogs (lost to Auburn 27-24)

LAST WEEK: It wasn’t quite as unanimous as I thought it was going to be but it was always going to be Georgia and rightfully so after that debacle against Auburn.  Texas was a solid runner up with nearly 50 votes, while a surprising third-place was Nebraska, mostly self-votes by fans who just can’t take it anymore.  Don’t worry Huskers it… might get better? (It did not during the bye week, but see the honorable mentions for more on that)

We are once again feasting this week after five Top 25 teams lose to unranked squads and we saw our undefeated count get cut in half from six to three- the lowest number of undefeateds in October since 1977.  And we still have a week left!   Anyways we have eleven nominees and a ton more honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut because I’m not writing twenty full nominations.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
-      Tank Job rules do say you have to actually play (and lose) to be eligible but Nebraska fans just watched their unmitigated failure of a former coach knock off the #2 team in the nation while their reject QB who destroyed them last week embarked on another flailing performance that helped get his OC fired.
-      Texas blew a 21-point lead, then nearly blew another 10-point lead after screwing up their second onside kick recovery of the season, but like with the Tennessee game managed to survive.
-      Indiana vs Michigan.  The entire game.  All of it.
- The "shouldn't Auburn be ranked after beating Georgia" got a resounding "NO" for an answer after they were blasted by LSU
-      Apparently losing to Kansas is back to being a fireable offense.  RIP Dave Aranda.
-      TCU was 10-point favorites over West Virginia and lost 24-20 but at this point I have no idea what WVU even is.
-      Air Force was starting to get on the radar after starting 5-1 but crashed and burned in Laramie to pretty much end their dark horse Mountain West hopes.
-      Colorado won the first half against Oklahoma State 24-23.  They lost the second half 34-0.  Best of three, anyone?
-      In the same vein, Cal led 20-17 at halftime and lost 59-20 after the Mustangs rattled off 42 straight points.
-      Georgia Tech lost to Boston College at home by 22 and I’m starting to think the Yellow Jackets might actually be bad.
-      G6 Playoff Frontrunner Boise State was tied 10-10 with a very bad Washington State team to enter the fourth quarter but ended up winning 31-10
-      Northern Illinois is the only winless team remaining in FBS after getting massacred at home by Hawai’i 56-21.  It’s the furthest away from home Hawai’i has won a game since they beat UMass in 2017.
-      And, of course, the Baltimore Ravens.

NOTE: For ease of counting, please use carats to make your vote, like this: <Team>.  Thank you for participating!

And now, the Week Eight nominees are…

BYU COUGARS (lost to UCF 39-31 in 2OT)
UCF tried hard to get themselves on here after… whatever that was at the end of regulation.  But nope, it’s the Cougs, who couldn’t match UCF’s touchdown in the second overtime and watched their highest ranking in 42 years last for one measley week before being knocked off the mountain by Scott Frost, of all people.

IOWA HAWKEYES (lost to Minnesota 13-10)
For the first 58 minutes the Hawkeyes stifled the Gophers for just 165 yards, but 4 turnovers and their own offensive woes had let the Gophers stay ahead most of the afternoon until a late Iowa TD tied it up.  Then Minnesota flipped the field with a  39 yard pass, which was enough to boot through the winning field goal and send Floyd to Minneapolis for just the second time in the last dozen years.

JAMES MADISON DUKES (lost to Appalachian State 34-31 in OT)
Normally the Mountaineers have to leave Boone to go shatter another team’s season, but App State got the rare treat of doing it at home in this Thursday nighter.  JMU was favored by 12 and led by 11 early, but App came back and led late before the Dukes managed to tie the game with just three seconds left.  Then in overtime JMU lost 11 yards on their first play, leading to a missed field goal, while App nailed theirs to end the Duke’s undefeated season.  I’d say they’re likely out of playoff contention too but who really knows the way this season’s been.

LOUISIANA RAGIN’ CAJUNS (lost to Southern Miss 35-31)
UL was having a pretty good year so far, their only two losses being a respectable showing against USC and a heartbreaker against conference newcomer Louisiana Tech.  Then they went to Hattiesburg as 12-point favorites and laid an absolute egg against the Golden Eagles, surrendering 286 rushing yards and the winning touchdown with less than a minute to go to snap USM’s nine-game FBS losing streak.

OREGON DUCKS (lost to Illinois 21-10)
Yes, the same Illinois that ended Purdue’s 19-game conference losing streak.  Why do you ask?

NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS (lost to Syracuse 31-30 in OT)
The Heels looked to be finally turning the corner under Bill Bellichek, but instead stub their toe when 8-point dog Syracuse manages to just squeak their two point conversion over the line in overtime to snap an 11-game ACC losing streak.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE WOLFPACK (lost to Stanford 31-28)
At this point the ACC has become all to familiar with the horrors of late-night West Coast football, but this one was on another level, with Stanford dominating the first three quarters.  NC State did try to mount an impressive comeback in the fourth but some… questionable clock management decisions by Dave Doeren led to the comeback coming up short.  How questionable?   Questionable enough that Doeren’s 13+-year tenure as the Pack’s head coach came to an end before the Week 8 gameslate had even finished

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS (lost to South Carolina 27-24)
Vols trailed 14-0 early, but rallied back and held the lead for most of the second half until a nice run by The Norris tied things up with 1:17 left.  And then while driving for the win they fumbled within range of their own field goal, allowing South Carolina to boot through the winner as time expired.  At least unlike the last time a Tennessee team in a potential playoff position visited Columbia, the game was close and they didn’t give up 60!

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS (lost to Cincinnati 37-24)
Undefeated season goes up in gunsmoke as three turnovers and a 21-0 Bearcat second quarter help turn this trip out east into a disaster.  TTU was favored by 11, but trailed by as much as 19 before a garbage time touchdown closed the gap (but not enough to prevent the dreaded reverse-spreading).

TROY TROJANS (lost to LA Monroe 21-14)
ULM MENTIONED!  In a positive way!   Well, not positive for Troy, who were 14-point favorites against a team that was on a 14-game losing streak.  Oh, and it was 14-3 until ULM scored three touchdowns in the final 2:43 to pull off the upset.  Technically they only needed two to make it 15-14 but the last play lateral-fest had a fumble in the end zone that popped right into Warhawk’s hands for some extra hilarity.

USC TROJANS (lost to Wisconsin 24-7)
You.  Blew.  Up.  The.  Pac.  Twelve.  For.  THIS.

Casual Weird Stat of the Day

Ohio State has scored a Touchdown in the final 30 seconds of the first half in all 7 of their games this year.

Vs. Ball State: 0:10 remaining.
3yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Jeremiah Smith.

@ Texas: 0:10 remaining.
19yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Jeremiah Smith.

Vs. Kent State: 0:00 remaining.
49yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Brandon Inniss.

Vs. Illinois: 0:15 remaining.
7yd Touchdown Run by Julian Sayin.

@ Iowa: 0:12 remaining.
12yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Jeremiah Smith.

Vs. Maryland: 0:24 remaining.
1yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Mason Williams.

@ Indiana: 0:07 remaining.
2yd Touchdown Pass from Julian Sayin to Bo Jackson.

I thought this was statistically interesting, as having the ball in the last 30 seconds of the half 7 games in a row is kind of crazy, let alone scoring a touchdown in each instance as well.
