Decided to start offloading my 12 years of experience and a ton of scripts I wrote over the years.
So this is the first "episode" of ADVANCED SHIfT written 100% with no AI
To me, this solves the annoying UX of a Command Manager to look up icons for structure tidying, UserData build and especially for plugins.
This script's first iteration travels all my C4D installs since R23, but to share with people, I had to make some updates.
It's free, but consider following my socials xD

P.S. Don’t ask me why drag and drop adds a .png at the end 🫠
This is the only way to make Drag n drop work with string elements I found

Chris Schmidt's Partition modifier Cineversity tutorial features a Scene setup that doesn't appear for me in the asset browser – it's a group of six setups, the one on the left – I'm on a Maxon One sub so I'm guessing it might just have been removed for some reason.
If someone can briefly explain how to create the second of those setups, the one that generates a grid of spherical elements, I'd love to know how to get there!

I was celebrating all by myself, thinking that—three years, no, five years late—a feature that makes node manipulation easier had finally been included as standard. That’s because the video was uploaded to MAXON’s YouTube channel yesterday. Here’s the attached video.
But when I took a closer look at the title and description, I realized it was actually a paid third-party plugin… and it’s not cheap.
Yet in Blender, this kind of feature has been around for ages.
I’m really disappointed every single time.
I've started to get fed up with having to keep paying MAXON while I work on my projects.
It made me rethink the point of using this software in this day and age.

Hi guys. I've downloaded some plugins from GSG but it seem they dont work on new versions. Anybode have the same issue or anybody know how to fix it?
I get some studio preset from light kit browser and it says it is for Redshift, but it so dark and it seems that lights dont emit anything (only reflects on spheres), but all scene is dark except reflections. BUT when i pick standart renderer on gsg browser it seems normal on my rs renderview
my GI trace depth set to 8 and combined to 16

Your feedback is much appreciated.
(The car scene isn’t mine: it came with a Chinese training course I bought in 2023. If anyone knows the author, please tell me so I can credit them).

I’m prototyping a muscle tool for Cinema 4D and could use some advice. The goal is believable, reasonably fast deformation, not medical accuracy.
Our current custom solver uses:
The problem: six seconds of motion takes roughly 30.7 minutes, using 12 substeps per frame at 30 fps. Profiling found 68% of the bake goes into Python Decimal energy-change checks, triggered on every solver proposal. Even removing that cost entirely would leave about 10 minutes.
Attachments are prescribed, the tendon isn’t physically solved, and there’s no collision handling yet. Numerical checks pass, but the visual result still isn’t convincing.
Would you simplify this into a coarse XPBD approach for authoring, or improve the existing solver first? What would you prioritize for speed and believable muscle behavior?

I’m a college student currently learning Zbrush for a class, and decided I’d buy the Maxon student license so I could work on my iPad.
This has been a nightmare. First, I kept getting an error saying “Oops, something went wrong!” when starting the verification process. Then I got locked out for 24 hours. (I don’t have a VPN or anything).
24 hours passed, and I tried again. Was able to get to the document uploading screen. Unfortunately, the popup to allow the camera wouldn’t appear, even when I went into my settings and allowed popups and camera access. Had to switch to Google to fix that.
So, I uploaded my documents. Thought I was done. Well, Maxon couldn’t verify me as a student. I tried going through the verification process again and now I’m getting the “Oops, something went wrong!” error again. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get locked out. Again.
I just want to be able to work on my projects from my iPad 😭 I’ve raised a support ticket, but haven’t gotten a response yet.
UPDATE my school WiFi apparently has similar effects to a VPN, turned it off and suddenly the verification process worked.

I designed a brand/label/bottle/homepage for a spec project, and while I'm overall happy with how this scene came out, it still feels like a 3D render and I'm not quite sure what else I could do to bring it closer to realism. Mostly because I've exhausted all the techniques and advice I've used before and can find elsewhere, which I'll list below.
Normally I wouldn't worry too much about hyperrealism, but for this brand it just looks like it doesn't quite belong when I put it into the web designs alongside real photography. Is another renderer besides Redshift just better suited to hyperrealism? Since I've gotten pretty far with Redshift I've just never thought about leaping into another one, but maybe it's time.
Any advice for realism or just overall design, lighting, and composition would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Not a coder here, and I know the hate for vibe coding at this point and while I get it, I've been able to make some neat scripts to help streamline some stuff. I recently made a python script that helps with a problem in both adobe and maxon apps that's been a pain for years- it scans your apps and will help migrate preferences and settings to new versions without having to do it manually. I know that in cinema you can identify extra plugin folders and such, but not with layouts and shortcut stuff. It jus seems that's stupid for the app to not migrate that stuff as part of the install or at least give an option. You can also pair additional folders that you want to migrate from and to as well for anything else you have setup.
So, ChatGPT enterprise helped me with it. Can I post a zip here or do I need to dive into git to post stuff like this correctly?

Nvidia drivers legit drove me insaaaane today!!
For past 3-4 hours I was figuring out why adding a displacement material on one object is making the other objects disappear, half of my scene was invisible due to this.
I legit tried 6 different octane version, completely deleted all my c4d octane cache etc, and all possible combinations with nodes and what not.
Problem was Nvidia drivers, had to uninstall the latest one, crazy how a freaking driver can cause such a distant glitch.

has anybody who signed in the beta-tester form on Maxon’s website earlier this year been able to test it, or is it just vaporware at this stage ?

The new CAD import functionalities seem to be a great workflow enhancement in my daily routine!
For me, this is a very big thing.
The first test with a bigger assembly was a bit annoying as only the textures but no geometry was loaded.
On the second try everything worked as expected. File names, good UVs, hierarchies, and even materials, everything was there.
Great job, thank you Maxon!

Not sure why this is happening but I can't display the correct viewports, just stuck on perspective. If I try and change one of them it bugs out and crashes. Has anyone had this issue before?

Client gave me an AI creation(bottom right) to mimic and I'm having trouble getting a overly gold object to match the reference. I suspect it's due to my blue and pink sky texture but I also need that sky texture. How do I make a gold that stays gold no matter what is going on around it?

I remember in my AE days I used to use the function loopOut("cycle",numkeyframes) a lot. numkeyframes lets you pick how many keyframes, counting back from the last one, should be included in the loop. It was perfect for keeping repeating animations clean
I find myself needing this a lot in C4D to keep my repeating animations clean. Is there a workaround to achieve something like this, since C4D's Before and After functions can only repeat the entire track?
