Additional events may be found in the Regional Calendar or at DurhamRegion.com. Please feel free to highlight any of these in the comments below. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Both free and paid events are allowed
  • If tickets are required, please include a link; these may require manual approval due to spam filters, but we'll approve them!
  • Garage sales and group sales are allowed, but not single item sales. Please do not share someone else's garage sale or their address without permission.
  • Religious and political events are allowed only if they are welcoming and inclusive to the entire community.

Looking for a beginner-friendly Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) group in Durham for my wife

Hey everyone!

My wife is interested in trying Dungeons & Dragons, and we're wondering if there are any beginner-friendly groups in Durham that have a good mix of men and women, or even women-only groups.

She's completely new to the game, so ideally looking for a welcoming, relaxed environment where she can learn and get comfortable playing.

Would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Restaurant options for small birthday dinner?

Any suggestions for birthday dinner spots? In the last we've done KB, berry Hill, but looking to branch out to other areas of Durham. We like locally-owned over chains, and something not too loud or busy

Rogers solicitors. Bowmanville area today.

Is it normal for Rogers to ring your doorbell multiple times? Two young males in Rogers outfits and iPads came around my home today rang like three times knocked three times after they rung the bell. After I did not respond, they came back three hours later and rang the bell again. Is this normal?

Also to add, I used the quick response on my doorbell “ sorry I cannot come to the door”. They completely ignored it and continue to ring the bell again after smirking.

Where to work out in (north) Brooklin?

We moved here recently and want an instructor with a home gym or just a regular gym within Brooklin (not looking to go as far south as Taunton). Any recommendations? There are like 4 Pilates places but I couldn’t find a decent gym in Brooklin. Looking for strength training mainly.

Partner assault response program

My partner is attending those sessions. I won't go into the details because for those who understand this will know what led him there.

My question is for those who attended, do they encourage dialogue exchange with all the participants attending. I get that facilitators are looking for participation but putting your hand up to answer questions is not enough...

How useful is this program for someone who is obviously ordered by his probation officer to attend because a man will only change if he wants to, no one can force a person. I get that.

But does this program also offer individual 5-10 minute check-ins? Do they journal and the facilitators review their submissions to see if it's genuine? How do they make sure the participants are not using AI to help them get through the program?

Sincerely,

A heartbroken and yet slightly hopeful wife.

Edit: I'm in therapy specializing in my situation which has been tremendously helpful. I appreciate the comments.

This is your sign..... literally

This is your sign.... literally, you pay for these signs. Your taxes also fund your schools, your roads, your police/fire/ambulance, your water services, waste disposal, snow clearing, parks, recreation centers, libraries, senior services, the list of the way that Municipal services impact your every day is enormous.

So when you plan your kids next activity at one of our amazing schools after hours, or your next workout or swim at your local rec centre, or your visit to the library, long term care home, ice rink, pool, via transit or in your own car on a city street.

Or have an emergency and need our amazing fire department or our fantastic paramedics, your tax dollars fund every one of these services, so wouldn't you want to have a say in how they are utilized and to ensure these services continue to support us?

I do, and if you do please make a plan to vote in the Municipal Elections on October 26th.

The Pointer: How a dispute between Pickering neighbours exposed Ontario’s broken municipal accountability system

A recent investigative piece by The Pointer’s Editor-in-Chief and investigative reporter, Joel Wittnebel, outlines a multi-year dispute involving property damage, grading changes, and unenforced bylaws right here in Pickering.

The story highlights a local family's struggle with city staff, property encroachment, and structural impacts on their septic system, while raising broader questions regarding municipal enforcement consistency and political oversight at city council.

Sharing this here for anyone tracking municipal accountability, local development issues, or bylaw enforcement frameworks within our community.

Recently moved to the Durham Region and looking for friends/walking buddies! :)

Hey everyone! I’ve recently moved to the Ajax area and thought I’d make a post to see if anyone else is looking to make some new friends!

I’m hoping to meet some chill people who’d be down for walks, exploring different spots around Durham, grabbing a coffee or bubble tea, or just hanging out and getting to know each other.

LGBTQ+ friendly people are very welcome, whether you’re part of the community or an ally! LGBTQ+ or straight, everyone’s welcome. 😊
Ideally, it’d be nice to find people around the area who are interested in making genuine friendships and having someone to do things with, rather than always going out solo.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to comment or send me a DM! :)

Spooky Restaurants

Growing up, I remember a few restaurants our family loved that would go all-out for Halloween. It always stuck with me. Now that I have a kid of my own, I’m wondering if there are any restaurants in the area that get super festive for Halloween. Any recommendations?

Is the Ajax Olive Garden Paying for Reviews?

Post image
37 Upvotes

I feel like this location opened less than two weeks ago, yet it already has 250 reviews…

A lot of the reviews mention servers by name, and it seems like there might be some kind of incentive for leaving a review.

Has anyone else noticed this or can confirm whether they’re encouraging customers to leave reviews in exchange for something?
