Draft Dynast Rookie Draft Pick Bust Anlaysis - 9 cat head to head

welcome in my fellow nba junkies... i'm back with an indepth dynasty nerd post for you boys... and i think this might be one of my best discussion starters yet.

my main dynasty league is 10 teams 25 man roster, 5 man taxi squad. We are entering year 7 and we have our 2026 rookie draft coming up in 2 weeks.

i was trying to negotiate selling norm powell to a team for pick 15. they said norm powell wasn't worth a young player in that tier. So i tried to show them that Norm is a top 100 9 cat player and should be for at least 3 more years. Some additional context, the team i was trying to trade with has never made the playoffs and they are finally ready to contend and stop the rebuild.

so as full time finance guy i got the work. I pulled up all of our rookie drafts (minus 2025) and i broke it down by round. I then ran a vlookup on each rookie draft pick against all the rosters to see which draft pick is no longer rostered.. aka picks that busted. I then looked at the players that were still rostered (aka picks that hit), and then i took the average dynasty 9 cat rank for each of them (again broken down by round). Here are the results and it is quite interesting.

The table shows how many bust there were by round.

  • 1st round - has a 0% bust rate*** (with one exception - the weak 2024 class).
    • average 9 cat rank of 1st round picks that stick = 95th in 9 cat
  • 2nd Round- has an average of a 50% bust rate -
    • average 9 cat rank of 2nd round picks that stick is 145th in 9 cat.
  • 3rd round - has an average of 70% bust rate -
    • average 9 cat rank of 3rd round picks that stick =204

the team said no to the trade but the data is on my side. pick 15 has a 50% chance of hitting and the average return will be a player ranked 145th.. Norman powell is around 70-90th in 9 cat pergame production.

i was offering them a guaranteed investment for one that has a very clear downside.

IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ THIS FAR.. THANK YOU, YOUR ATTENTION AND TIME MEAN THE WORLD TO ME AND I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO SHARE YOUR ROOKIE DRAFTS.

IF YOU COMMENT SOME OF YOUR ROOKIE DRAFTS BELOW AND YOU ARE ABLE TO SEND SCREENSHOTS OF ALL THE TEAMS ROSTERS I WOULD LOVE TO RUN THE SAME ANALYSIS FOR YOUR LEAGE. DM me

Draft Anthony Edwards Build

We have a very competitive league with a lot of skilled managers. Everyone has their own team identity, franchise player, logo, and so on. We even have our own league media, and my team has made the finals multiple times and is the reigning champion.

We’re running a $200 auction draft, and players generally go for $5–10 above or below their typical market value because of how competitive the league is and how much everyone values their favorite players.

My franchise players are Anthony Edwards and Amen Thompson, but I’d probably have to spend around $65–75 on Ant-Man and $35–45 on Amen. I’m struggling to figure out how to build a successful roster with that much money tied up in Edwards alone.

As a Plan B, I’m also considering building around Tyrese Maxey and Amen Thompson instead.

Could you please suggest a 14-player, alternative-heavy roster build centered around Anthony Edwards? I want to build a team that can strongly compete in 5 categories out of 9, with a good chance of winning 6–3. It's a redraft league but i think fantasybball sub going to delete my post because of their rules. Sorry about posting redraft league topic here but I really need some help figuring this out.

Draft Boozer Hype

I see Boozer going 1.01 a lot and he seems to have solidified himself there. I saw a dynasty ranking with him as a top 10 player overall, not just rookie. Next rookie was AJ in the 30s. I personally had AJ ahead of Boozer but it was close with DP on their level. Seems like Boozer had a tier of his own. What am I missing? His size isnt a problem exactly but a 6'8" big isnt ideal. Without playing a single NBA game, hes one of just 2 players in the top 20 of the ranking I saw that doesnt have either elite positional height or athleticism (the other is Spida tho he could be argued as an elite athlete). What am I missing that the consensus sees? Is truly that skilled to make up for everything else?

Draft Peterson at 5!!! 😂

I’ll try to keep it short.
My team is heavy on F and lacking G. I have picks 1 & 5 … but was still leaning to pick AJ at 1.

I got information that Acuff was going 4, so thought I was getting AJ and Wilson.

So right before pick 1, I switched it up to get Boozer … thinking I would have C and PF instead of two F.

But Wilson went 3. Acuff at 4. And I got left with Peterson at 5.

I couldn’t believe my luck, I really think I got potentially the best player and I also think Boozer is amazing.

How high is everyone on Peterson?

Draft 8-15 range points rookie draft

Curious on opinions on guys in that 8-15 range in a points league. Most likely guys like Flemings, Yaxel, Morez Johnson, Burries, Steinbach, etc. I have 3 picks in that range so I’m curious on peoples opinions on who I should target. Thanks

Draft Rookie Draft Results

Just sharing the outcome from our rookie draft in case it helps those that are still yet to have theirs.

15T, 8-CAT (no TO) Roto. In total, 23 rookies were taken in this year's draft (those with additional space took existing players off the wire to complete their squads).

1.01: Caleb Wilson (big surprise)

1.02: Cameron Boozer (me)

1.03: Darryn Peterson

1.04: AJ Dybantsa

1.05: Darius Acuff Jr

1.06: Keaton Wagler

1.07: Mikel Brown Jr (me)

1.08: Kingston Flemings

1.09: Brayden Burries

1.10: Yaxel Lendeborg

1.11: Morez Johnson Jr

1.12: Hannes Steinbach

1.13: Allen Graves

1.14: Cameron Carr

1.15: Aday Mara (me)

----------

2.01: Ebuka Okorie

2.02: Christian Anderson Jr

2.03: Labaron Philon Jr

2.04: Sergio De Larrea

2.05: Meleek Thomas

2.06: Nate Ament

2.07: Pass

2.08: Henri Veesar (tore his ACL one hour later)

2.09: Pass

2.10: Pass

2.11: Dailyn Swain

2.12: Pass

2.13: Pass

2.14: Pass

2.15: Pass

Really needed to nail this draft as it's the key to my rebuild, so I'm pretty stoked to have landed Boozer (unexpectedly) and Brown. Mara is a long-term upside play, but probably worth the punt.

Draft Rookie Draft Philosophy: My Guys

I have my leagues rookie draft coming up next week (10-team lock in mode on Sleeper), and I have 1.09, 1.10 and 2.01. Im typically a guy who sticks to my board, but I’m wondering what everyone thinks about incorporating consensus/actual draft capital into these decisions. The example I am referring to: Keaton Wagler. I’ve never been a huge Wagler guy in terms of the NBA ceiling, mostly athleticism concerns and the lack of pedigree as a blue chip recruit and all that. Throughout most of this pre-draft process, I’ve assumed I didn’t have to worry about it since he’d surely be gone by the time I picked. However, after talking to some people ahead of me it seems like there’s a decent chance he slips to me after his SL struggles.

Do I take him based on the value/upside (my team is rebuilding) or do I pass on him for guys I just like their games more (this is fantasy basketball at the end of the day, you should have some guys you like)?

Appreciate any responses from either camp. Thanks!

Draft Franchise cornerstone: Boozer or Peterson?

Today is my draft and I’ve been rebuilding for the past 2 years. I’m looking to cap off the rebuild with a franchise cornerstone and I have the first pick.

I’ve been agonizing over Boozer vs Peterson. The experts say Boozer is the safer fantasy player. Nearly a lock to get 20 and 10 for a decade. But I feel that Peterson has more superstar potential.

What do y’all think? Is there anything I’m missing? Will update after the draft

UPDATE:

Went with Boozer. But Peterson ALMOST fell to me in the second round. Heartbroken lol

Draft Thoughts on my rookie draft?

1.01: Cameron Boozer
1.10 Kingston Flemings
2.2Nate Ament
2.8 Allen Graves
3.3 Christian Anderson
3.8 Zuby Ejiofor

I’m relatively new to dynasty basketball and haven’t followed much of this new rookie class, so I don’t have any idea on if I cooked or not. This is my dynasty leagues second year and my second year of dynasty basketball, so any info and help would be greatly appreciated!

Draft Let’s Play: How Far Did Cam Boozer Fall in my Rookie Draft?

The answer: 1.06, right into my lap, after I failed to trade up to 1.04. Anyone else seeing a similar slide? The first four picks in my draft were Dybantsa-Peterson-Acuff-Wilson, but then someone reached for Quaintance at 1.05, so I got obscenely lucky (presumably).

Trying to gauge the absurdity of this, with many rookie drafts starting up and progressing. Pundits have Boozer higher on their boards, but maybe the community is thinking a little differently? What do y’all think?

Draft Dynasty Rookie Draft: Pick 1.02

Boozer is just about the consensus #1 pick. Who has the best case for pick #2 in 9-category in this year’s dynasty rookie drafts and why? AJ and his scoring, Caleb and his stocks, or DP and his all round potential?

Update: the consensus is there is no consensus!

Draft The Draft Stock Exchange: I built a Bloomberg-terminal-style big board that prices NBA rookies like IPOs: every class back to 2013 (free, no paywall) my fellow basketball junkies REJOICE!! Basketball Nerd Nirvana is HERE!!!

Thumbnail
thedraftstockexchange.com
0 Upvotes

I’ve scouted NBA prospects on my own for 12+ years, and this summer I turned it into a site: The Draft Stock Exchange (thedraftstockexchange.com).

The idea is that every prospect is a stock. Each one gets a ticker, an IPO price, and a prospectus with the bull case, the bear case, and a comparable. The board is built like a terminal, with film, advanced stats, and valuation all in one place.

What’s on it

  • Class boards: the 2026 class is the main event, and prior classes go back to 2013. Each class has its own board.
  • Two prices per player on completed classes: a frozen pre-draft “IPO price” built from college and international production, and a post-rookie-year price based on what they actually did in the NBA. You can see who the market got right and who it got wrong.
  • Analyst coverage: each player shows where the public boards ranked him next to my composite, so you can see who’s a bull or bear versus the consensus.
  • Compare tool: put 2 to 4 players side by side from any class, including each player’s own first three NBA seasons lined up.
  • One-Universe Rankings: every player from 2013 to 2025 ranked on one scale by current production.
  • Film Lab: clips tied to the players.

No paywall, no ads, no signup. I’m not selling anything. I just love this stuff and want to show off the 2026 class in a format I haven’t seen done this way.

I know the “scouting as a stock market” concept has been done in spots. What I haven’t seen is the full terminal: film, stats, methodology, and valuation in one place, across this many classes.

I’d love honest feedback:

  1. Which prices look wrong to you?
  2. What would you want on a prospect page that isn’t there?
  3. Which stats do you trust for translating college production to the NBA?

It's corny but i say all the time because its true... "time is the most valuable resource, and i sincerly appreciate you spending some of yours with me."

WELCOME... TO THE DRAFT STOCK EXCHANGE

Draft Dynasty Managers Needed!

I need at least 2-3 managers still for a dynasty draft.

Season is coming up soon, we will draft the last day of the preseason (or the days near it).

We have alternated our league into one with contracts that has been really fun in my nfl leagues.

If you're interested, send a dm👍.

Draft The First 12 Picks

12-T Sleeper Lock-In mode format. Showing you guys out there who went where so you can be prepared for your own rookie draft.

1.01 AJ Dybantsa

1.02 Darryn Peterson

1.03 Caleb Wilson

1.04 Cameron Boozer

1.05 Darius Acuff

1.06 Kingston Flemmings

1.07 Keaton Wagler

1.08 Braden Burries

1.09 Yaxel Lendeborg

1.10 Mikel Brown

1.11 Aday Mara

1.12 Nate Ament

You’re probably thinking, Boozer that low? Team fit and being a UNC fan adds context for picking Wilson instead. The league isn’t chopped just a group of guys from high school that have been going strong for several years.

Draft Rookie Draft Grade

Just finished first round of rookie draft. Traded into 1.2 and grabbed Boozer. Traded into 1.4 to grab Caleb Wilson. Then at 1.9 (my pick), snagged Kingston Flemings. Feel really good about that. Adding them to a team that has Ant, Barnes, Sengun, Maxey.

The future is bright.

Draft 1.01 Keeper Help

Okay I’m in a keeper league. I know it’s not the same as dynasty but I figured you guys would know best. Keep 4 but that has to include 1 rookie and 1 sophomore. ESPN points league with 2 points for rebounds.

Current keepers are Luka, Mobley, Ware, Flagg

I have the first pick and I am debating between Scottie Barnes and Cam Boozer.

Boozer has more potential but I think Scottie is better this year. Plus eventually I think Luka and Flagg would be my main two keepers anyway. Thoughts?

Draft First time dynasty player-tips?

Hi all,

Doing a dynasty startup league and looking for some advice on good player ranking sites, etc. I played fantasy basketball a few years ago, but honestly have been pretty disengaged in NBA the past few years. Still know the stars, but some of the newer guys I don’t recognize.

This is a startup draft. Any advice on good follows for Twitter, YouTube, etc on player rankings or draft strategy? Thanks in advance!
