Analysis We are an absolutely infuriating team to play

…and watch.

But i live for the frustration other teams feel having to play us. Death by strangulation every game. Stifling defense and then we just grind you to death with the run game and 1st and 9 Every drive.

Would i love it if our offense looked like it came from the 21st century? Yea. But it’s offset by my love for W’s

Go birds. Fuck dallas

I think we all agree with Ruben frank. However what are the realistic odds of howie or lurie actually doing anything? Probably close to zero.

Analysis Under Lurie the Eagles do NOT wait for confirmation that something is heading in the wrong direction.

I think some of the younger fans don't really understand how Lurie and the Front Office has operated. This organization does not wait until something is 100% confirmed to move on. They operate on where something is trending and its the main reason our turnarounds have been short . We cut early in the downslope and have been right almost 100% of the time. Brian Dawkins would be one that comes to mind as being 100% a mistake.

Go look at how the NFL reacted to us Firing Andy Reid, We were ripped for years , but we won a Superbowl before he did and he became a better coach because of the firing. Most teams would've gave him 2-3 more years

Go look at the NFL reaction when we fired Chip Kelly after winning 20 games in his first 2 years, We got destroyed as being reactive and the Niners quickly hired him. We were right.

Go look at the Reaction when we fired Doug after winning us our first Superbowl .

Go look at how people said we were so dysfunctional for Trading Wentz after 1 bad season. A year removed from throwing for 4000 yards and 27 TD's

Even Mcnabb wasn't coming off a terrible season when we traded him. He had a 10-4 record with 22 TDs and 10 Ints. But they didnt like where they projected it was headed.

My point is that eagles are not going to wait and see . That goes for both Nick AND Jalen. With Nick i think people get it . But with Jalen people seem to have this idea that Lurie and Howie are going to say well lets see what happens with Another Coach , another Playcaller and expect something different. Even though the eagles passing offense with Jalen has ranked:

2021: 25th

2022: 9th

2023: 16th

2024: 29th

2025: 23rd

2026: 31st

This is despite having a top 3 pass target group and elite pass protection for 4 of these 6 seasons. This thing is not trending toward better since 2022 from a passing perspective.

They signed him after 2022 , with the idea that he would keep progressing as a passer which was a reasonable bet. It hasn't gotten better , despite us finding a way to win. In production at least it has regressed.

There is no logical reason for them to think that some new coach is going to unlock something in a 29 year old that has already been surrounded with the best talent possible . Yes theres stories like Geno Smith and Sam Darnold . But those guys were in bad situations with no talent around them.

I don't know what Lurie and Howie think of Jalen currently. But i do know that if they have doubts about his ability after age 30 or simply whether they want to be a team that is 20th in passing on average . They will not wait to make a move to secure the future of the position.

He will likely be here in 2027 but dont be surprised if there is a 1st round pick behind him. History says Lurie isn't going to let past success cloud his judgement.

Analysis The Eagles Formation Tells Defenses Everything They Need to Know

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

The Eagles formation majorly tips off the plays they will run. Yesterday: 11 plays from pistol and 1 of them was a pass 14 plays from under center and 0 of them were passes 33 plays from shotgun and 26 of them were passes

There were 25 combined plays from pistol or under center. The first play of the game was a pass and then there were 24 straight runs. Even if you exclude the 7 Tush Push plays (which is a fair thing to exclude) that is 17 of 18 plays from those formations as run plays.

Of the 7 shotgun runs, 2 were back-to-back carries by AJ Dillon in the 1st half and 2 were draw plays on 3rd and 15/16. If we exclude the draw plays that is an 84% pass rate from shotgun.

So basically, if the Eagles line up in shotgun there is an 84% chance it's a pass play and if they don't there is a 95% chance it is a run play.

I honestly can't believe this is something that we are having to talk about.

Analysis [McManus] Stoutland was not consulted about the changes to what he felt was an appropriate degree, a league source said, to the point where he no longer desired the title of run game coordinator because he felt it no longer fit his job description

welp...

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47832174/eagles-ol-coach-stoutland-says-return-next-season

Things were less harmonious this past season. Injuries to right tackle Lane Johnson and others along the front played a part in the ground game's regression, but there were other dynamics at play. With the offense stagnant, head coach Nick Sirianni took on a more active role over the latter part of the season. He and then-offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo began incorporating different run designs in an effort to kick start the operation.

Stoutland was not consulted about the changes to what he felt was an appropriate degree, a league source said, to the point where he no longer desired the title of run game coordinator because he felt it no longer fit his job description.

That experience gave him pause about continuing on with the organization, the source added.

Another wrinkle emerged with the hiring of the 33-year-old Mannion as offensive coordinator last week. Mannion is slated to install a new scheme that will pull from the Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan systems. Given that Stoutland doesn't have a history with that offense, he would have had someone over him implementing the run game designs, a source noted.

Analysis [Brett Kollman] An analysis of the second half meltdown

Post image

I came to the same conclusion.

Everyone is blaming Patullo/Sirianni and they always deserve some. But we need to accept that Patullo is not ever going to be Ben Johnson or Shanahan or McVay.

The scheme is the scheme and the players need to execute the plays called. The REAL issue and has been since the beginning, is the OL is absolute dogshit.

Jurgens and Landon are missing blocks REPEATEDLY. Saquon is getting touched in the backfield almost every play. We struggled with pass blocking last night too. The OL film is disgustingly bad, particularly the iOL.

We can blame the Patullo all we want, but at some point the players need to take accountability.

And everyone’s been avoiding the elephant in the room. Where is Jeff Stoutland’s accountability?

He is the OL coach and run game coordinator. Getting these OL to block correctly is his responsibility. These poorly designed runs where we have Calcaterra blocking Edges are his plays.

Injuries have decimated the OL this year but it’s gotten to the point of being inexplicably bad. They are straight up just whiffing on blocks. This is the root of all of our issues and I’ve said it from the start of the year.

We’ve been drafting all defense with our top picks the past few years. It’s time to draft the Davis, Carters, Coops, and Mitchells of the offense..

Analysis [Haff] The Eagles continue to go empty. The Bucs continue to send 6 to ensure a free runner. And the Eagles continue to have exactly 0 answers. This is the exact same thing that happened against the Giants. I honestly can’t even tell you what this offensive staff does in practice or the film room.

Analysis Let me tell you younger millennials and Gen Z something as a 39 year old fan from the Reid era

Our record and team performance hasn’t been top notch, so naturally we’re being pessimistic.

Hurts is out and I'm seeing even more panic.

As your resident unc and fellow Eagle fan, take a deep breathe and relax! This franchise has been surviving on backup QBs for 25 years. Here's every season since 2002 where a backup had to start games because the starter went down:

2002 - Koy Detmer / AJ Feeley - 5-1 - NFC Championship
2005 - Mike McMahon / Koy Detmer - 2-5 - missed playoffs
2006 - Jeff Garcia - 5-1 - Won wild card
2007 - AJ Feeley - 0-2 - missed playoffs
2009 - Kevin Kolb - 1-1 - Wild card
2010 - Michael Vick - 8-3 - Won NFC East/Wild card
2011 - Vince Young - 1-2 - missed playoffs (dream team :/)
2012 - Nick Foles - 1-5 - missed playoffs
2013 - Nick Foles - 8-2 - Won NFC East
2014 - Mark Sanchez - 4-4 - 10-6, missed playoffs on tiebreaker
2015 - Mark Sanchez - 0-2 - missed playoffs
2017 - Nick Foles - 2-1, then 3-0 in playoffs - SUPER BOWL CHAMPS
2018 - Nick Foles - 4-1 - Divisional round (Double Doink)
2021 - Gardner Minshew - 1-0 - Playoffs
2022 - Gardner Minshew - 0-2 - Super Bowl appearance
2024 - Kenny Pickett / Tanner McKee - 2-0 - SUPER BOWL CHAMPS

TL;DR:
16 seasons with a backup starting games
10 made the playoffs = 62.5%
Backups combined: 44-32 (.579)

2 of our Super Bowl titles came in seasons where a backup started games

Garcia went 5-1 and won a playoff game. Vick turned a Kolb concussion into an MVP-caliber run. Foles did it THREE times and gave us a parade. Sanchez went .500 and we still went 10-6.

This team’s ethos and soul is built to survive when their backs are against the wall. Hungry dogs run faster. Go Birds, DH!! 🦅

Enjoy the season and hope for the best!

Analysis Eagles-Panthers Film Review: Sean Mannion should probably be replaced

Thumbnail
bleedinggreennation.com

I don't think I've ever seen an offense film review this despondent in over 6 years

Summary from the article:

Those of you who have read my work for a while will know that I rarely call for a player to be benched or a coach to be fired. I would much rather explain what is going wrong and look for ways to fix it. But after watching the Eagles’ offense against the Panthers, I think Sean Mannion (you can add more if you want) should probably go. This under-center, outside zone offense he brought in has been dreadful, and I don’t see a coach who looks ready to solve the problems his own system is creating. With so little coaching experience, he looks completely out of his depth.

Analysis Dickerson needs to go on IR

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

After reviewing Dickerson’s play for the past four weeks, I’m done, he needs to go on IR.

In the past four weeks he has allowed 3 sacks and 13 pressures. For comparison the rest of the line is only responsible for one sack (Tyler Steen) and 18 pressures. Dickerson is not playing bad, he’s playing awful, and he is not contributing meaningfully enough in the run game to justify not pulling him at this point.

This guy is a multiple pro bowl caliber player when he’s healthy, but he clearly isn’t so the best thing for him is to rest for more important games down the line.
