Question Is Flickr worth it in 2026 and beyond?

Hi folks,

I just rediscovered Flickr and remembered I really liked it back in the days (some 10+ years ago).

Now, I'm interested if Flickr is really worth it for sharing images again. Until now I used pic-time for my professional work and private images from holidays for sharing, but I quit doing regular professional work recently and so did my pic-time subscription.

However, I quite like the idea of sharing images with my family and friends via an online gallery rather than Google Photos or Apple Photos.

Now, is Flickr the tool for this use case and is it worth the price?

Question Thoughts about the redesign of the app

I don't know if I'm the only one unhappy with the new version of the app (I'm an Android user). Though I appreciate developers including a dark mode, the app feels sluggish and the Pro/Upgrade plan badges are upsetting. Even more important, at least on my phone, it is impossible to slide through the albums and groups a photo is included in. And there's no longer the editing feature. Not to mention there's no direct way to add a photo to any group (I'm aware this is a glitch developers are trying to correct, according to another post in this sub). Finally, the feature that allowed me to watch photos in horizontal format when rotating the phone seems to be no longer present (am I the only one experiencing this). Personally, I was quite happy with the previous version. I hope these drawbacks are just temporary and developers improve the functionality of the app.

Question How many times has your photo been featured on Explore?

Since January of this year 5 of my photos have been selected for Explore.

I was just curious if that seems normal, below average or above?

Question Are you all renewing your pro accounts?

My subscription just lapsed and for the first time in a long time I am seriously considering letting it go. After using other services like Glass, Flickr doesn’t seem to have made any meaningful improvements in quite some time. I am curious as to how you all feel.

Question MODE MODE MODE everywhere. Enough already!

Yes, Flickr. You've invented the photography conference - that's very good of you. So clever!

But I live in an entirely different part of the world and am not at all interested in spending two or three thousand dollar or whatever to travel to the U.S. to listen to photographers talking about their for me unrelated kind of photography. I'm certain.

And yet I can't do a single thing on Flickr without having to close pink popups or banners about MODE. There is absolutely ZERO chance I will suddenly change my mind and become interested in this so all you're doing is making my Flickr experience worse. I pay to have an ad-free experience on Flickr so why do I have to have this crap polluting my experience? Because it 100% is advertising.

Make it possible to opt out of the MODE spam. Please.

Question How do we get Flickr groups going again?

Instagram is a video platform now. Facebook is trash. And Flickr groups are dead. How do we get them going again?

Question Anyone going to and excited for Mode?

I'm seeing a lot of negativity, and yes, they do advertise quite a bit, but they have to get enough attendance or they might cancel the big artists they're paying.

I'm really looking forward to an event geared toward photographers with so many pros giving hands-on classes.

Seriously, I'm not sponsored. Flying out from California to be there and paying my own way.

Just looking for positivity and meeting other photographers there.

Anyone else looking forward to going?

Question Low Quality Downloads on The App?

Are we no longer able to download a full resolution version of our own photos off of the app? I have tried to save several photos onto my phone today and they are all downloading at the worst possible resolution. I am a Pro member and am logged into my Pro account. Yikes if they’re now limiting us saving our own content.

Question Does Flickr go too far?

What do you guys think about it, that you can't download your own image in the original size? Imagine you lost your photos for some reason, and you must be a Flickr Pro to get your OWN photos back. I don't know about it, but in my opinion, this isn't right and unfair. Not even Deviantart does that method.

Question Flickr option to upload a photo no longer appears?

Post image
17 Upvotes

When I select a photo on my iPhone or iPad, the Flickr icon no longer appears as one of the destination options.

This started yesterday with the new Flickr redesign update.

I ran a new iOS update on both devices. I also deleted the app and reinstalled. This did not work.

I can still upload photos from within the Flickr app, but I liked having both options.

Question Why do I get so few views?

I created a new account because I wanted to start over, and I've noticed that none of my photos are getting more than 10 views. I don't mean to brag, but I think they're good enough. I've looked at more photos in my country's group, and it's even worse, photos taken by professionals that are really well done but barely get any views. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong, or is something in my settings off, or is Flickr just not as active as it used to be?

I’ve tried uploading them to other platforms, Instagram, Bluesky, even Rednote, which is a Chinese social network, and I’m getting way more views and likes there.

Question Embedding a private photo on a website or forum no longer works

Been happening for the last month or so, but it seems that randomly, embeds of private photos are simply the broken blue placeholder icon. Has something changed that I need to be aware of? I've shared private photos for YEARS in this way (I just don't want people rooting around on my Flickr page).

Question Been using Flickr since 2009 communities.

I know the community section they once has for questions is dead awhile ago.
I actually like the Groups areas where ppl can kinda talk.
But they always seem dead. I like to chat about photos, techniques and
it just seems ppl do not look at Flickr for that any more.

I will enter a group and see the very often post " This group still active".
From 8 months ago one reply.

I mean its not a bad system, but I wish it was more interactive. I dislike Reddit.
And yet here I am talking here, because I can not figure how to keep a group conversation going on Flickr.
I know Flickr is not dead, and is used by some of the most serious photographers.,
I think if the communities could grow, flickr would as well.
But there is Facebook, Twiitter, Reddit, Instagram, Tiktok all in my opinion not the quality
of Flickr.

Question Can I use openly licensed Flickr images to create and release a research dataset?

I am a student working on scene text/OCR research.

I’m considering using the Flickr API to find images with licenses such as CC0, Public Domain, or CC BY, download them, create text annotations, and release the images + annotations as a non-commercial academic dataset on Hugging Face.

However, Flickr’s API documentation says API results and images can only be cached for up to 24 hours.

Does this mean I cannot permanently store and redistribute even CC-licensed images obtained through the Flickr API, despite the image license itself allowing redistribution?

Has anyone dealt with this for an academic/research dataset before?

EDIT:

To clarify I dont intend to reshare the images again with a new open source license. What i intended to say is if the original images license permits resharing, then I will release the annotated data (original image + annotations) as per the original license terms. Sorry for the confusion. I dont intent to change the original license during dataset release.

Question Does Flickr Support actually fix bugs? 2.5 years of being stuck in a support loop with zero resolution.

Hi guys,

I moderate a few groups on Flickr with a Pro account, and for the past 2 years, group invite notifications (especially in older groups) have been completely unreliable. Invites simply don't reach users. Members have confirmed they aren't getting notified, and response rates have dropped from >70% to ~25%. There were brief periods when it worked again at random, proving it’s a fixable bug on their end, but it always broke again shortly after.

The biggest issue right now is Flickr Support. I’ve been stuck in an endless loop with them since the problem occurred (2 years...). It’s always the same script: they tell me they will "pass it to the engineers" or, even worse, that they are "monitoring the issue," followed by absolute silence. Seems that they just keep rotating my complaint ticket between different support agents, and it doesn't go further.

Has anyone experienced this specific bug with group invites?

More importantly, what do you even do when Flickr Support just strings you along like this? Has anyone had a similar experience with them and actually managed to get a persistent bug fixed? How did you get it solved?

(And please skip the "just leave Flickr" advice. I'd rather find a way to get this fixed than abandon the groups).

Cheers

Question Survey

I use flickr 99% of the time on my desktop. Mac OS Tahoe 26.5.2 and Safari.

I rarely encounter anything more than the odd bad panda page.

How do you predominantly use flickr, Desktop, iOS, or Android?

I have a couple of collections of various albums that I access on laptop by going to albums and then it’s one of the options to view.

However, I can’t see this on mobile.

Anyone know how to access it?

Thanks.

Question Displaying images in its original resolution on Flickr?

Hey yall, I apologize in advance for the question, but Im kinda new to this whole "uploading my photos online" thing. I started uploading them on Instagram, but I wanted to have an option for people who want to see the photos without the instagram compression, so I found out about Flickr and uploaded some photos there.

To my suprise, when I looked at my photo, the resolution was not as good as my original file. I mainly post astrophotography, so zooming into the photo is kinda important. I mean the resolution for my last image for example was 12028x7168 (weird number due to crop). So is Flickr still my best bet in that case, or is there some other site that allows this? Or maybe even help me understand why its that way. Either one of those would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Question Administration/ors

Anyone know if you can remove an inactive account/member from a group who is also an admin, even though their account has been inactive for a long time?

I know that you can boot everyone else out delete the photos and leave the group thereby effectively deleting it, but I was hoping there was another way?

Question A local workflow to surface specific image categories in large photo archives

I’ve been working on reorganizing my photo archive lately, and I realized how hard it gets once you’ve accumulated years of images. Trips, projects, experiments, screenshots. Everything ends up mixed together, and finding what you actually want to keep becomes a real challenge.

I’m a solo developer, and I built a small local tool to help with this. It’s not a backup app like others posted here. It’s more about workflow. It helps surface specific image categories inside large folders, including more personal or sensitive ones. So you can review or move them quickly. Everything runs locally on the computer.

I made it because scrolling manually through tens of thousands of files (4TB) wasn’t realistic anymore. Having a way to surface specific categories of images made the cleanup process much easier and helped me bring some order back into my archive.

I’m curious how others here handle large libraries. Do you rely mostly on metadata, albums, external tools, or manual curation? In my case, the images I needed to isolate weren’t consistently tagged or populated in metadata, so I had to rely on a different workflow to surface them.

Sorry for my English, I’m French

I used to download HQ Images from flickr years and just recently revisited it and now they don't allow you to download. Was curious if there was a way to bypass this?

Question Exclude folders in Flickr app? Any way to do this?

Basically what the title says.

I have a folder of local photos on my phone. They have already been uploaded, but Flickr doesn't see it that way. I want to exclude the folder somehow but I can't seem to figure out a way.

Android 15 operating system if that helps.

Thanks for the help

Question Flickr pro monthly

Can i get flickr pro for a month, download all my photos in original resolution then go back to free? It's very unfair for flickr to hold photos hostage.
