Why are Houston highways and roads just so full of trash and debris

Post image

Second time blown out tire chunks were in the middle of the highway and ate my bumper. The first time I avoided some and ran into other chunks was partly avoidable but this time another car clipped it and sent it flying to me😞

Question for Rocky Horror @ River Oaks

For Halloween, I'll be going to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Rover Oaks Theater with friends. I have a question for any regulars to these midnight showings: How early do we have to show up for the festivities? Thank y'all!

Deceased horse on 610

Sunday night i was driving on 610 east heading south. Saw a couple of cop cars blocking the left lane. As i crept by i looked over and actually saw a full sized horse laying in the left lane. It appeared to be disemboweled. I kid you not. I wish i had not seen it! I can’t imagine how it happened. Anyone else see it or know what happened?

Homestead Fraud and rental prices

I see a lot of homes on my street that have renters for a year or more and appraisal shows homestead exemption . Don't they send a qualification letter to your home every year ? How do people maintain it and how to report them? As I understand it is not a harmless act and basically shifting tax burden to people doing the right thing . Is it punishable fraud ? Do people not report it to avoid raising their rental prices?

Experience with HISD?

Has anyone had any experiences I assume will be negative with the "recent" HISD takeover and the NES system? I'm curious how this has affected parents.

Rent red flags in Houston?

Hi all! I am moving to Houston in 2 weeks, I've been looking at some spots but I ran into one called

The terraces at Brompton and they look a bit too good to be true. Very high recent reviews and then a couple crazy Yelp reviews

Does anyone have some info or insight on how to spot red flags? I'm moving from the NE and I'm not familiar with the market in Texas

Thank you!

Anyone interested in a book club?

I live near Houston (South of Houston near Galveston) and was wondering if any fellow book worms would be interested in a book club? I read any genre but I have my favorites. Willing to try new generes though. We can meet up or we can do a Zoom call or something. Anyone interested?

Rice is building a giant new tower—but moving historic trees first

"Rice Real Estate Company and its partners will relocate two mature live oak trees over the course of several weeks," Sam Dike, director of strategic portfolio initiatives and public engagement for Rice Real Estate Company, told Chron. "The trees will ultimately serve as anchor features for the future Rice Village Gateway Park planned for the corner of Greenbriar and a future Amherst roadway extension."

"We are excited about the role these trees will play in creating a vibrant new green space for the community," Dike added.

The two trees weigh around 500,000 and 750,000 pounds, respectively.

Can you still eat well in Houston for under $10? A crowdsourced map says yes.

The Brief
After being laid off from an 18-year corporate tech career, Jae "Jay" Park created CheapFoodMap.com to help diners beat inflation while spotlighting affordable local dining.
The crowdsourced platform has mapped more than 200 meals under $10 across Greater Houston while systematically blocking national corporate chains to keep dining dollars with independent, family-owned restaurants.
Featured neighborhood spots—including Houston’s Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Mala Sichuan Bistro—say offering quality, authentic dishes like $8.99 Dan Dan noodles keeps traditional comfort food accessible to hardworking Houstonians.
