Esports Swiss Stage Should be Best of 3

Hopefully I'm not the only one here who thinks Swiss Stage Should be best of 3. What's the point of fearless mode for best of 1? I'm already sick of Nocturne and Kalista spam. I also really wish they'd nerf Kalista hard for every worlds patch, ideally in a way that doesn't hurt her too much in Solo Q but seeing her this often is bad. Same with Locke I just hate this champ to begin with the stupid reset ult is not interesting at all. Assassins like Akali are much more interesting. Not sure if there's any kind of precedent for worlds hotfix nerfs for quarter finals and beyond but I'd really like these 3 champs in particular nerfed. And the upside to hotfix worlds patch nerfs is it won't affect Solo Q.

Art My friends and I rewrote almost all of "True Damage - Know My Name" to try to win Worlds Finals Tickets

Earlier in the month, Riot and SoundCloud dropped a huge contest to win Worlds Finals tickets where they released the original Stems for Know My Name, but EXCLUDING the vocals, and are going to give prizes to whomever can do the best remix.

JG Diff is the name of the discord server that me and all of my friends play League of Legends in and watch worlds from every year. It seemed only fitting that everyone hopped on the track for one big banger. Hope you guys like it!

https://soundcloud.com/beora/true-damage-know-my-name-jg

Unfortunately a lot of the applicants heavily used AI in their submissions which is not allowed, and another handful used third party sites to rip the original vocals from the track and used those (also not allowed), but if you are looking to see the other submissions you can look up "Know My Name Remix" on SoundCloud!

LYRICS:

[INTRO: BEORA]
I don’t like the way you’re talkin’ to me
Gotta rocket on me like I'm NASA, homie
Hit the Z-Drive time travel on 'еm
When I rewind, take it back, back, back

[BRIDGE: MISOLEINE]
Everybody hates when you’re standing
At the top of the mountain
Talk about fame, yeah they’ll tell you
That they know all about it

[VERSE 1: BEORA]
But would you fight for it?
Grind for it?
Wake up in a sweat every night for it?
Just to try for it?
Everything you own on the line for it?
Die for it?
Offer up your soul at a 9 to 5
To survive for it?
Stop time for it?

NO

How many towers did you climb to arrive at it?
Head down for the title
Would you give your life for it?
Just drown and dive in it?
Skip town and fly for it?
Look at all the doubters typin’ ****
Online mouth drooling, writin’ it
No wonder they stay anonymous
In the basements of their momma’s crib

[VERSE 2: THE NEXT LEVEL & BEORA]

Cut through the noise
안들려 니헛소리
I’m a killer, don’t try me

In the cut with my boys
우리멈출 수없지
JG Diff right beside me

미움 받을 용기 필요 없지
Got a monster in me
And I can’t control it
너와 나의 차이 다시 보여 주지 또
BACK TO BACK TO BACK

[CHORUS: CEYLONSPECIAL, MISOLEINE, BEORA, PIERO, THE CARRY]
Now you know my namе, ayy
Fire in my veins, ayy
Tried to count us out, but we back in (Ayy, ooh)
Always gonna rise from the ashes (Ayy, ooh)
Now you know my name, ayy
That's just how I'm made, ayy
'Tamo en otro nivel, otra clase (Ayy, ooh)
Lo que buscamos siempre se nos hace (Ayy, ooh)

[VERSE 3: ZXYC]
I don’t understand what you’re saying
Talk a whole lotta game but you’re just playing
Probably on break, probably just laying
Think you gonna shake me, boy keep praying (Huh)

I’m at the top and my spot I be guardin
Man this life it continues to harden
Every day I keep on sparring,
I call it tending the garden,
Never exhausting

Did you know, have you heard it yet?
This not a brawl, boy this is a tournament
Spill it out, are you worried yet?
The damage I’m causing, all of it’s permanent
Leave a mark like a bad scar
It’s 24/7, you don’t have to act hard
Total you like a crashed car
Never stop going, don’t know where the brakes are

I’m winning this and you knew it
Everything you been through, yeah I’ve been through it
Every place you go to, yeah i’ve been to it
I don’t really talk a whole lot, boy I just do it (yuh)

I don’t know why you wanted to step to me
Sorry bro, should of called up a referee
Blowing up cause the flow is so heavenly

[ALL]
JG Diff on it, you know it’s a reckoning

[BRIDGE: MISOLEINE]
Everybody hates when you’re standing
At the top of the mountain

[MISOLEINE & BEORA]
Talk about pain
Oh I know all about it

[PIERO & MISOLEINE]
But would you fight for it?

Cross my heart and hope to die (Ayy, ayy, ooh)
From the dust we were built to arise
This the moment that legends collide (Legends collide)
Crowds erupt and paint the sky (Ayy, ayy, ooh)
Cross my heart and hope to die (Ayy, ayy, ooh)

Discussion WW top as Ambessa Counterpick in Pro

The odds that any pros will see this and try it out are basically nil, but I really think that WW top is in a strong state and is especially viable as a counterpick into Ambessa. In Diamond plus, the WR is a disgusting 58.5% over 1k games. (I realize the sample size isn't large, but I've been following this for multiple patches and it holds true even if you go far back). You stomp her in the sidelane even if you're behind, basically all game.

https://lolalytics.com/lol/warwick/vs/ambessa/build/?lane=top&tier=diamond_plus&patch=30

Specifically, in game 2 of GenG vs Lyon, I think that it's a good angle to pick WW into ambessa. The draft at that point was Ambessa, Noc, Liss, Ashe, Seraphine for GenG and Vi Akali Yunaara Lulu. The main issue with WW is that he teamfights worse than a lot of toplaners (same tier as Irelia/Fiora imo). BUT, you have an autowin lane and 1 v 2 potential even when ganked. Especially given that supp is not on an engage tank like ali/naut/thresh etc. One of his main weaknesses is being kited out, and being knocked off his R-- but that draft doesn't have the tools to knock him off ult aside from Liss R, and Ashe R.

He's an easy enough champ to pick up mechanically, and the matchup is likely very unfamiliar for most Pros. I believe that you can easily bait 1 v 1 kills by knowing your damage thresholds. I don't think it would require much practice either, just 1 afternoon of spamming some 1 v 1 lanes would be sufficient to learn it well enough. You run Flash Barrier with Lethal Tempo and revitalize/whatever secondary.

I know that Pro play is not the same as soloQ, and there's many reasons people can point to as weaknesses for the champ in pro. That said, there's also many strenghts of the champ in pro play. His lv1 is basically unmatched, making lv1 topside 2 v 2's or 3 v 3's basically unlosable in most matchups. If you max W into E, you're deceptively tanky and can soak up a ton of damage as a frontline. W can also be used as a scouting tool much more effectively in proplay. In SoloQ, the build is kraken into stride or Bork into stride. In proplay, I think Titanic/Hexplate is probably more viable.

Interested in seeing some discussion about this, and maybe why I'm right or wrong.

Big Dhokes, if you're reading this please consider learning the champ as an Ambessa counter.

EDIT: Thanks to the commentor who sent this link.

https://gol.gg/champion/champion-matchlist/107/season-S16/split-ALL/tournament-ALL/

It looks like WW top is 5-1 vs Ambessa in pro play this year. With BB at MSI vs HLE being the only loss. And even in that loss he was 9/4/8 while the rest of his team was in shambles.

Discussion Duo queue is surprisingly difficult, idk why

I don't think anyone has my exact setup so I genuinely have no idea of how unique this experience is, or if most people playing duo queue know what I'm talking about. But I'm a low masta player (around 300 lp or whatever) if I have time, on EUW, and every time I do start playing solo I have like a 80% winrate up to diamond 1 or so, and then start slowly plateauing, so I have a pretty good gauge of where I am skill level wise.

However, I predominantly play with my low diamond/emerald friends, and we for sure have like a 40% winrate over the past few years, and I can never get past emerald with them. This is fine as we're just playing to play with eachother, and I really wouldn't mind or even notice if the losses were not so weird.

The games feel unwinnable, and it's seemingly rank agnostic. We always lose in the exact same way, the game is very winnable and then our 3 teammates are just gapped by their counterparts and get caught or don't follow on plays like the other team, and we just lose. It feels like a 4v5. And this is a massive sample size btw, and it's like a fever dream how it's almost every single loss following the same pattern.

Does anyone know what's going on? My theory is that duo queue makes your teammates' average mmr lower, and that just makes them atrophy things on the map across the entire game, and that it is ill suited for my macro and team supportive playstyle that is absolutely broken when playing solo. Btw, I also have a negative winrate on gold on the latin american server with my immigrant friend who wants to play with 150 ping on his home server (which is fair).

Discussion What's one thing about solo queue that you think most players misunderstanding?

I feel like a lot of people focus way too much on their teammates when trying to climb, but there’s probably something we all overlook in our own gameplay.

For me, it’s how often I take fights without thinking about wave state or objectives. A kill feels good, but sometimes it literally does nothing for the game lol.

What’s something you realized was holding you back after playing ranked for a while?

Discussion League's balance makes a lot more sense when you realize how 95% of champs are locked onto a single build path/runes

Maybe they have some wiggle room (like BFT vs Ludens), but so many champs just have a build path that they build because they've been balanced around it

Take the crit adcs. They're all balanced around crit and nothing else, so they build crit items. They all need IE and LDR. Then they get to choose between a few different but very similar stat-wise items

Same with burst mages (who all have the same build path basically).

I used to be in awe of how riot managed to balance a game full of so many champions and variables, but it slowly makes sense once I realized how champs are basically locked onto items.

Like, imagine if Rocketbelt gave you AD or AP based on your adaptive force? Or Mercurial? Would open up so many possibilities. It'd be a balance nightmare, but doable nontheless

Discussion im so bad i want to delete

I started playing 2023 and have been hard stuck bronze/silver up until now. silver nowadays not that its any different, but im so sick of it. I genuinely don’t understand whats wrong with me and why climbing feels impossible. one game im not auto piloting and im playing well, the next im feeding my laner and getting flamed. Im at the point where i feel like this game is just not for me because of my lack of improvement over these 3 years. it makes me feel like shit and i feel extremely unfulfilled by this game. Ive spent lots of money on skins because i like the champions themselves so i feel a bit regretful but yeah im kinda just feeling in the dumps about it. It also makes me feel even worse when I see people who started playing a few months ago hitting plat and above and im still playing like a cockroach. wtf do i do bro. also i only get like 17 lp from a win because of how shit ive been playing lately and lose like 23 lp :(

App / Tool Making a new site to track/watch worlds without spoilers. Give me feedback!

A couple things have always frustrated me with watching worlds, so I decided to vibe code a website (https://esportstracker.app/) to enhance my worlds experience.

  1. Convenient game info. I find it way too hard to just get an live bracket and games schedule. I just need all the info condensed in one place (especially for swiss stage), so my website has that front and center. I'm also working on having it display live game stats if you want to just check in on the game status without having to open a stream.
  2. Avoiding spoilers. Especially when Worlds is in a different country, I can't watch a lot of games live so I end up watching them the next day. I always get spoilers though when I do this. Even small things take away from the experience for me. Like if I see beforehand that the series only has 4 games then I already know who wins the series after watching game 3. Or if I'm 10 minutes into a video that's 25 minutes long and one team has a significant lead, I already know at that 10 minute mark that the losing team will almost definitely not make a comeback since there isn't enough time. This kind of removes all the excitement from the most exciting parts of games/series. I'm trying to design the site so that it has no spoilers by default and you can watch the game VODs in the site with a viewing experience that feels live. The video time is hidden and subsequent game videos are only revealed after having watched the previous one.

Anyway, I bought a URL and published what I have so far in the hopes that other people will find this useful in the next few weeks. I literally put this together yesterday, so it's surely got lots of bugs. Please let me know if you find something wrong or if there are other features you'd like to see added and I'll get them implemented ASAP. I'd love for this to become a community project!!

Gameplay Newbie Jungle Question: Why do streamers always find free kills, but my laners just hug their towers?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been trying to learn jungle recently and I noticed a really frustrating pattern. Whenever I watch streamers play, it feels like wherever they go, the enemy laners are half HP and they just walk in for free kills and snowball.

But when I play jungle and go for a gank, the enemy laners immediately retreat and hug their tower like it's their life support. It feels like I'm just wasting my time walking around the map. It's so weird and frustrating!

What am I missing here? How can I make ganks work like those streamers? Any tips on pathing or timing?

Thanks in advance!

Esports Watching Worlds with full spectator vision makes me realize how unfairly I judge pro players

I caught myself doing something pretty stupid while watching Worlds.

A player was walking toward an unwarded part of the river and I was sitting there thinking, "Why on earth are you walking into that? There are literally three people waiting for you."

Then I looked at the minimap and realized I only knew that because I was watching the broadcast.

I could see all five enemy champions. The player I was judging couldn't.

And now I keep noticing how often I do this.

A pro gets caught rotating and everyone calls it an obvious throw. Someone backs away from a fight that looks winnable and chat calls them scared. A jungler doesn't contest an objective that we can clearly see is free.

But we're watching a completely different game from the one they're actually playing.

Obviously pro teams can track people through wave states, jungle pathing, recall timings and communication. I'm not saying every questionable decision is secretly brilliant. Sometimes walking into fog with four enemies missing is just bad.

Still, I'd genuinely love it if broadcasts occasionally showed 10-15 seconds of one team's actual fog of war before a big objective fight.

Not for the entire game. Just enough to see what information the team had when they made the call, before switching back to normal spectator vision.

Imagine watching a Baron setup without knowing whether the enemy jungler is actually in the pit. Or seeing a flank from the perspective of the team that has absolutely no idea it's coming.

I think it would make some mistakes look a lot more understandable and some genuinely incredible reads much more impressive.

It might also help people appreciate how much of professional League happens before anyone deals damage.

Does anyone else feel like spectator vision completely changes how we judge pro play?

Discussion winrate by specific day of the week legitimacy

it was pretty striking to see on OP.GG it said my winrate over 91 games on saturday was 45% while my winrate on sunday over 121 games was 64%. this seems like a lot of games, it seems like it would be unlikely to be a fluke. what do you guys think of this? could this really be a fluke or am i missing something here about the data? i have no idea what possibly could be happening differently so much on saturdays vs. sundays to cause such a huge winrate discrepancy lol. anybody else have this?

Discussion Riot games is a triple threat (Music, animation and games)

Riot games is a triple threat, League of legends and Valorant are some of the biggest games on the planet. They as well alongside Fortiche made one of the biggest animated show's of the decade being Arcane and KDA just released some songs that ARE JUST BANGERS.

I think it's pretty cool and I'm wondering if there's any other gaming company that's such a triple threat.

App / Tool I built a free League build and combat simulator that shows the maths behind every number

TL;DR: I'm launching Rift Forge, a League of Legends build and combat simulator. It's completely free, with no ads, and available now. Try it, break it, and help me make the numbers bulletproof. Link in the first comment.

Here we go again... I know I'm not the first to try this.

I've looked at what's already out there. Some tools are fun to use, but most are abandoned or limited: missing champions, mechanics or stats, nothing for supports, numbers you can't check, clunky interfaces, or unusable on a phone. Rift Forge is my attempt to fix all of that.

What it is

Pick a champion, level, items, runes and ability ranks, choose a target and a combo, and it computes the exact stats, effective HP, damage, healing/shielding and movement speed the game's rules give you. Change one thing and see the difference, with the formula and the patch behind every number.

Some things you can try

  • Swap one item or rune and see exactly how much your combo gains or loses
  • Build a real combo: autos woven in, Electrocute or Spellblade proccing where they actually proc, Darius's bleed stacking hit by hit
  • Put two champions against each other, each with their own build and combo
  • See how much effective HP an armor item really buys you, or what your support's heals and shields are worth
  • Browse every number that changed this patch, and a champion's or item's history across patches
  • Share any setup as a link or an image card

What's inside

  • Workbench: the simulator itself. Ask one question at a time (which build, which combo, which skill order, which target, which patch) and read the answer as a delta.
  • Patches: unofficial patch notes generated from the data, with every value that changed, old → new, and each champion's or item's history across patches.
  • Wiki: every mechanic the engine handles, marked computed, simplified, postponed or excluded, plus a glossary and the hand-curated values with their sources.
  • Computed metrics: stats at any level, effective HP vs physical/magic/mixed damage, combo damage split physical/magic/true and per cast, DPS, healing, shielding, lifesteal, crowd-control duration vs tenacity, cooldowns, mana costs, movement and gap-close range, build order and gold efficiency.

Questions I'm expecting

  • Where does the data come from? Riot's Data Dragon is the main source, the wiki is the cross-reference, and I curate conflicts by hand, with sources.
  • Is it accurate? Values are checked against Practice Tool readings. Anything the engine doesn't model yet is flagged right next to the number it affects, and nothing is guessed.
  • How fast after a patch? The update is automated and takes about 1-2 hours once the new data is out on Data Dragon.
  • Mobile? Yes. It's also available in French.

This is where I need you

The engine is only as good as the readings behind it, and one person can't check 170+ champions alone. If you want to help:

  • Take a Practice Tool reading. Build a setup on the Workbench, read the real values in-game and submit them. When independent readings agree, that champion goes from provisional to verified. This is the single most useful thing you can do, and it takes about five minutes.
  • Dispute a number. If a figure doesn't match what you see in game, report it from the panel that shows it. The report carries the exact setup, so I can replay it and fix it.
  • Tell me what to build next. Which champions, metrics and questions matter to you decides what I validate and build first.
  • Report a bug. Anything broken outside the maths: layout, controls, mobile.

Everything is on the Contribute page, and every number fix lands in the public changelog.

PS: I've spent three months working very hard on this with very little feedback. I have a TON of ideas for what comes next, and which ones I build will mostly depend on what players want.

Thanks for reading, and have fun on the Rift!

Discussion How is it okay at all for a team to have 2 sets of duo’s and the other have none?

Title. It used to be that if a team had a duo queue the other team had one. What did riot change? Now a team has 2 sets of duo and the other team has none? They will say we slightly give the non duo team an advantage but I don’t care what you say. Voicing with a teammate will always be superior. This is a diamond lobby. It isn’t insignificant.

Discussion New temporary game mode idea

For lack of a better name I'll call it Worlds Queue. This game mode is functional the same as normals however it only allows for champs that were picked the previous day at world's to be played. This mode is for people like me who only watch worlds and only play during worlds. The inspiration for this mode is my experience tonight. I tried playing Ksante, Ambessa and Shen in my games. No game lasted more than 15 min and I was stomped by people playing weird stuff they are good at. I think this mode would be really good for people like me that just want to turn off our brains and reenact what we watched that day at worlds.

Discussion Am I an awful friend for secretly making an alt just to escape my duo?

I know I sound like a completely spineless coward, but my stomach has been in knots about this for days.

My best friend from high school and I have been playing League together since Season 4. Back then it was just dumb fun in normals, playing weird bot lanes and laughing until 3 AM. But over teh last two years, he has turned into the most miserable person to queue with. Every single death is "team diff," every ping tilts him, and Discord turns into him screaming at our 0/2 jungler while I sit there in uncomfortable silence.

i work a stressful 9-to-5 now. When I log on at night, I just want to relax, press buttons, maybe lose a game or two without someone screaming in my headset. A month ago, I secretly made an alt account just to play normals in peace without him seeing me online.

Yesterday he texted me a screenshot of my main account's match history asking why I havent been inviting him when I play. Turns out I accidentally queued one game on my main last weekend while half-asleep. He genuinely sounds hurt and thinks I’m ditching him because his rank is lower. The truth is, I just cant handle his toxicity anymore, but I dont know how to tell him without blowing up a ten-year friendship.

Educational Changes to hextech boxes?

• Upvotes

Did they change hextech boxes to only give champion shards now? I haven’t got a skin shard in 6 boxes and I swear they used to have skin shards in them?

If so, what is the difference between a hextech box and a champion capsule??

Also, do you think I need to start using up my orange essence? It feels like if they aren’t giving skin shards anymore they will discontinue orange essence altogether so is there a date I need to spend it all by?

Thank you for whatever info you have!

Discussion Why aren't there "Adaptive Force" items?

Kinda like how Arena has items where you get either AD or AP depending on your adaptive force

Would be fun and open up items for different classes. Zhonyas on ADC (so they can choose between that or GA). Rocketbelt on ad bruisers. Deaths Dance on AP bruisers

Obviously doesn't have to be every item, but these defensive/self-utility items having adaptive force would be insanely cool imo

Esports Defending how T1 played the Elder macro against DK (why Faker has to catch mid and can't TP)

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

Skip to 46:00 for Elder setup.

I thought many people were being a bit too critical about how T1 played the Elder. I started writing some of this as a reply to a comment but thought I might as well make it a full post (TLDR below).

The problem with this Elder was that T1 trapped themselves into a checkmate because they didn't mismatch the Baron and Elder timings (which is understandable because why would you delay a free Cloud Soul?). The problem with Baron spawning so close to Elder and even worse, spawning 40 seconds before Elder, is that both teams need to play around Baron first because getting Baron off spawn means you have insane prio for Elder, but you also risk giving up setup for Elder if you invest too heavily into Baron. DK has a scaling draft with a K’sante Renata Kalista, (the last of which is favored for any objective because of Rend), and means T1 really do need to respect a potential Baron rush by DK.

In hindsight, you can blame T1 for not trying to end before Elder but you can't really blame them for how they played the Elder macro because both teams played the Elder macro pretty flawlessly. Faker's Anivia MUST answer mid push or else DK can threaten an end mid. Both teams know that denying dangerous lane pushes at this stage is critical, which is why Showmaker also bases and clears top wave to deny T1 the chance to threaten an end top.

I think you can either argue that they should've forced a fight after DK got Baron and K'Sante blundered his TP (which is also difficult because T1 have no vision), or you can argue that T1 misplayed the Elder fight, but you can't blame their macro because I'm seeing a lot of people confused about Faker catching mid wave and not TPing. If you think a 6-time Worlds Winner doesn’t know how to play endgames, I’d be pretty comfortable betting against that. If you look at the wards alone you'll understand.

Keria has 1 support ward and 1 pink going into the Elder fight while Career has 4 supports wards and 1 pink. No one else on the team has any pink wards. In fact only Faker, the one who has to TP, has a pink ward. Already this is an insane vision diff and there are no good wards for Faker to TP to. It's hard to see, and I hope I haven't missed any wards, but at the ideal moment that Faker can TP, Keria's banana push pink ward is cleared, and the other pink ward nearby is too dangerous to TP to. The stealth ward in the pit is also too dangerous. On the minimap, you can just barely see the blue farsight wards in the Faelights near Gromp and the river pixel brush, but obviously you can't TP to those.

There might be one thing that Faker could've considered doing, which is to not show himself on mid wave and wait to see whether DK tries to end mid before regrouping.

I think it's also worth noting that Faker might be saving TP for a few potentially powerful plays: Eggnivia TP play, a base TP play if he's chunked mid fight, or a potential TP to top lane and end play. Also, Jayce has no TP which is really unfortunate because ideally Jayce should be catching mid wave while Anivia helps zone the enemy at Elder, but playing for Jayce poke at Elder was worth trying too. The macro was correct by both teams.

As for the teamfight, I think in hindsight Oner should've flash Ulted kalista to chain CC her with Keria's engage. Or, he should Q towards the Kalista instead of the K'Sante and then R the Kalista (he's probably trying to make space for Faker and Doran to join with his Q). If he's able to chain CC Kalista, she can’t cast R to save Renata, and Peyz can oneshot Renata before she can press W or R. Peyz flashing too early when Jarvan EQ was also a blunder (in hindsight of course). If T1 can one-shot Renata, I think T1 is in a pretty good state. Jarvan and Renata will be dead, Oner will be respawning in GA, and it'll be close but I think Oner or Peyz can finish off Kalista (who won’t have bailout). Then, it's a 2v2 between K’Sante Viktor vs Anivia Jayce, which is quite playable if T1 kites properly. One-shotting Renata was really key there. I won’t talk much about a possible Peyz QSS buy because he’s probably close to GA and already committed to it, and it would be too much hindsight bias to criticize buying BF Sword.

In the end, I think T1 still looks relatively strong because they showed a lot of strength early game, and a loss to DK in a best of 1 due to an Elder fight is by no means any significant indication of their current form.

TLDR: T1 was checkmated when they opted into a relatively early Elder because both teams played the endgame macro well and the scaling DK comp was favored. Faker had to defend mid wave and had no safe wards to TP to. The teamfight could've been better by one-shotting Renata by chain CCing the Kalista.

I got the Archmage augment as Ashe and decided to make good use of it by going full AP.

I think I used R around 50 times. Jhin surely wasn't very pleased.
