You do not have to draw circles.
It seems like a good third of the posts here are poor souls despairing that they're not making progress- meanwhile they've been just filling up pages with circles and boxes. Whoever told you to do this tricked you. You are wasting your time and energy.
Its honestly upsetting seeing all these beginner artists getting frustrated and confused. Its a fine warmup at best. It is not how you should be spending your time.
In short: don't practice scales so much that you never play any music.

Question How can I construct a drawing more accurately rather than just winging it?
TLDR; I’m not sure how I should be constructing my drawings and need guidance on how to accurately proportion my drawings so I can progress more, rather than just drawing and hoping.
I’ve been learning to draw for about 2 years. Mostly just drawing boxes, manipulating forms and occasionally trying to draw something I see with little success.
Recently I started taking art a bit more seriously by learning fundamentals more properly and stepping outside my comfort zone “doodle boxes” phase. I feel like I’ve made good progress but I also feel I’ve hit a speed bump and not sure what to do.
When I drew the skulls (p.1) I tried building up shapes; oval for the main skull, trapezoid/ rectangle for the jaw. I found good success with that.
Last night I tried drawing the head of 01 from EVA (reference p.8) and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to start. So I just started randomly trying to fill the shapes I could see until I got to a point I felt it looked decent.
My problem is that I’m not sure how advantageous this is for future art development? Is there a way I could have approached the drawing that would have assisted in making better proportions? Or is just “eyeballing” it the best way to go as it would help develop my skills? Just feeling a little directionless and not sure where to go.
Any advice or critique is welcomed!

Question Just beginning, where do I go from here?
Ive just started to learn the basics of figure drawing. I used to use AI (i know, yucky), and decided I want to actually make something of my own. I used a workbook to get some of the basics down, then practiced some poses on my own using a more geometrical style, although I suspect that might not be very useful. Im just looking for some tips and resources, and to be pointed in a direction. So far what's worked best for me is being shown how someone does the process themselves and then doing it in a similar way so I have an example to work off of. Any resources like that would be much appreciated :)

Just Sharing (criticism welcome) I wouldn't say I did bad for not having drawn in a while :)

Just Sharing redrawing old art
the 1st drawing is from may 20th this year, the 2nd i finished last week. first one took 9 hours, 2nd took just about 6 hours. started to take drawing seriously around the time of the 1st drawing so it’s cool to see my progress since then. still got a lot to learn, but i’ve made more progress this year than the past 27 years of my life 😅 shoot i couldn’t even draw a body last year so i’m just happy i can do that.

Just Sharing 2yr Difference, Switching Art Styles Helped Me
I drew a lot in an anime art style for years, but switching my art style to something a bit more realistic has helped me improve my understanding of face proportions drastically. I still draw in an anime art style time to time though for fun, but I would definitely suggest switching art styles to experiment with your artistic skills and limits 🙃
First drawing is Gale from BG3, and second drawing is just an OC of mine.
