Need Support Terrified after hearing the recent news

I live in the UK, and this morning I heard the news about preparing for the possibility of conflict happening in 2030. I am absolutely terrified of emergency alerts, even just noises that sound like them. I shpuld preface, I am autistic and live with my parents. I don't know what to do, as I've been in fight or flight mode since I found this out an hour ago. I woke up my parents to tell them, but they said there's not really anything they can do about it but that they don't think it's too likely. So I'm just wondering if anyone could give me some reassurance if you know stuff about stuff like this and chances of it. Cause I'm scared out of my mind about it. Thank you so much

Question Healthy, low effort activities to do for some cheap dopamine for someone depressed?

Hey reddit šŸ‘‹

So essentially Im just looking for things to do when you are in low energy mode as a depressed person?

Usually I either watch youtube or mindlessly doom-scroll reddit.

However, I can feel it negatively impacting me. Its not good for me (and became much worse ever since they all enshittified their algorithms. Looking at you youtube)

It has me wondering, is there a non-screen equivalent, but its actually healthy and good for you?

Importantly tho, unfortunately it needs to be low effort. There is many hobbies I am hoping I can get back into when this depression thing is over, but until then I just dont have the energy for any tbh.

ps: funnily enough I googled the same question and the google search algorithm became so ass that it didnt return anything usefull

Need Support I saw the Manuel Otto livestream.

If any of you don't know, she was the creator of Stick Run and she ended her life last week on Twitch by self immolation. It was just depressing to see that there's way too many people saying that she was selfish when obviously I get their point but overall she's gone and had cancer which is why she ended her life. Most people just think all because she livestreamed on Twitch meant that there were kids on the app too possibly watching but she wasn't really in a right state of mind. Most people who livestream k1lling themselves want the world to see what they're going to do to themselves because they have no other way to explain it. I think it's just shocking and sad to know that she done this. I also don't know why people are hating on her somewhat for the reason that she wore women's clothes and was transgender. All I've seen is disrespect and it's just inhumane to see others in their own perspective say that she did this for "attention" when she was clearly struggling. It was traumatizing for me to watch the video and I can't imagine how she just felt in that moment knowing this was the outcome. Sorry for posting here, I just wanted to get this off my chest because it's bothering me :(

Venting I hate getting help.

Realizing that I’m probably going to be stuck the way I am forever because of how much I hate the idea of getting any help. There’s no logical or rational explanation for it either, I just refuse to let anyone or anything help me, mostly. I’ve been on lexapro for a few months and it hasn’t done shit except make me emotionally numb, and I’ve grown to hate these stupid pills with a passion. I desperately want to flush them and I don’t even know why. The only thing that’s stopping me is the nausea I’ll get from it. I refuse to go to therapy because I don’t believe they have anything to offer me, and I feel if I say the wrong thing they’ll just throw me in a psych ward where I will become even worse. I have a history of self harm and I don’t feel like discussing it with a therapist at all. I have a horrible problem with self isolating and pushing everyone away from me and it’s destroying my relationship with my partner. I hate everyone but at the same time I’m extremely lonely. I self sabotage every relationship in my life and I have absolutely 0 friendships with anyone. I honestly think I’m a narcissist or something but I doubt I’ll ever get diagnosed with anything. I also suspect I might be high functioning autistic but again, I doubt I’ll ever try to get a diagnosis. Why am I so adverse to receiving help? It’s probably because I never received any growing up and now I’m a bitter adult with no social skills.
But anyways. Yeah. I hate my meds and it pisses me off to think about how I even ā€˜need’ to be on them when they aren’t even doing anything for me

Question not caring as much

i've always been a destructively empathetic person, and i'm really sick of it. i hardly feel my own emotions, except for negative ones i suppose.

it's been dictating my life, i really want to become more jaded to other peoples opinions and emotions. i understand empathy is a good thing, but so much of it is hell on earth.

how would i go about training myself to care less about other's opinions and emotions? and i don't exactly mean just learning to live with it.

(im talking about empathy in the sense of feeling other peoples emotions or perceived emotions.)

Sadness / Grief My untreated mental health issues damaged the trust in my relationship, and I lost the man I wanted to marry

My boyfriend (29M) and I (26F) were together for about a year and a half. We were planning to get engaged, he’d bought a ring, and we’d talked extensively about marriage and children.

I struggled with severe anxiety, PMDD, and what I’m now learning may be relationship OCD. I repeatedly questioned his intentions and struggled to trust him, even though I loved him deeply. We had a few particularly difficult conflicts, and I know some of my behavior hurt him.

We started couples therapy, but I eventually canceled our planned engagement trip amid financial concerns and mounting relationship stress. He became increasingly distant, despite telling me he wanted to reconcile. Then he broke up with me over the phone, just as I was beginning treatment. He said he’d been unhappy and lacking in confidence for a few months now in our relationship, and with the canceled trip and work stress, he just couldn’t handle it anymore.

I’m devastated. I physically feel sick with grief. I can’t imagine loving or wanting anyone else, and I’m consumed by guilt over how differently things might have gone if I’d gotten help sooner.

Has anyone experienced losing a relationship because of untreated mental health issues? How did you cope with the guilt and the possibility that things could have been different? I am grieving so badly I can’t even get through the workday.

Need Support My 12-year-old brother is being bullied and has started withdrawing from everything. How can we help him?

• Upvotes

I have a 12-year-old brother who used to enjoy life, play video games and football, and do the usual things kids his age enjoy.
Lately, he has been dealing with bullying and being left out, and it has really affected him. He has started spending most of his time alone in his room and no longer seems interested in the things he used to enjoy, not even using his phone.
What worries me the most is how he has started seeing himself. He keeps questioning himself and saying things like, ā€œWhy am I not successful? Why am I not good at anything? Why don’t I have something I’m actually good at?ā€ It hurts to hear him talk about himself this way, especially at such a young age.
He has also been playing football since he was 8, but he feels like he is not improving. One of his friends has progressed to the point where he travels to compete in tournaments, and I think seeing that difference might be making him feel even worse about himself.
As his family, we are worried about him and do not want things to get worse. We are trying to understand how to approach him without putting more pressure on him or making him feel like we are forcing him to talk.
Has anyone dealt with something similar with a child around this age? I would especially appreciate advice from child psychologists or psychiatrists on how to support him, help him regain his confidence, and know when professional help is needed.
We just want to help him feel like himself again.

Content Warning: Eating Disorders can someone tell me to eat, like, convince me to do it

I don't want to eat but I keep getting scared by the health concerns people list. Right now, I don't care about future illnesses or issues because I want to feel trashy, but when I look to the future, my future self wouldn't want to feel this way, so I shouldn't betray future me. I dont really know why i'm acting so stupid, but I don't really think its for attention because i havent told anyone. I also think I sound a bit crazy. The thought of eating makes my stomach churn in a bad way. I wish there was an accessible way to just skip eating and get all the nutrients and stuff through an injection or something, idk. I don't really like myself much, so eating feels like I'm doing a favour for someone I don't like. I go till about 4 pm without eating quite often. The last time I ate was almost 23 hours ago. I feel nauseated and my head and random parts of my body hurt but I just don't want to eat. Is there a way to just shove it down my throat without feeling like crying?

Need Support Self hatred

I hate myself so deeply I can’t look in the mirror. I saw a photo of myself at 12 and immediately criticized her. I have a great job, great family, great friends, and great fiancĆ©. I am miserable and so fucking disgusted by myself. I try to walk daily, cook, read, and am signing up for a work out class tomorrow to get some kind of endorphins working. I have tried antidepressants in the past and don’t find that they help after years. I am an oldest daughter, 27 years old, and have not been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Looking for ways to stop the significant self hatred and chronic guilt and shame I constantly feel

Venting Reddit's Environment

I've had a Reddit account for a while but never really actually used it. I would find threads through Google about game reviews, bug fixes, DIY home maintenance etc. and I had always seen such nice genuine people.

Since my experiences were always so positive, I thought Reddit's reputation was just hyperbolic so , for the past 3 weeks, I've been actually using it proper. Scrolling, commenting, even posting and I have to say... this is such a miserable place. I've spent way too long arguing with people about basic logical conclusions or the assumptions that are made about people.

Yes, I should have just not engaged. I fully acknowledge and accept that I had a part in my negative experience. I just find it hard to think that is solely the case. There are such hateful people that seem to pop up everywhere. I primarily sat in gaming related subs, I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I primarily sat in political/culture war/debate subs.

I feel a genuine tax on my mental health that I have never felt from any social media platform ever, even in my worst altercations. I understand that there isn't any reason why anyone should care about this but a large part of why I'm writing this is because I'm getting rid of Reddit and this post serves as my mental conclusion to my time with it. I also hope that it may help someone else to wake up to the potential mental tax that they may have been suppressing internal acknowledgement of experiencing as well.

I understand that this is not an airport and people don't need an announcement of my departure, I just thought I'd share my general experience before I leave.

Venting losing the generic lottery is a sentence

why do genetics have to determine so much? they essentially determine life’s winners and losers. it plays so much more of a role than people realize and being on the losing end of it really hurts. because of poor genetics i struggle socially, romantically, in my hobbies, academics, athletics, career, etc.

people with good genetics seem to live more enjoyable lives. people with good genetics don’t have to work hard to achieve success in any aspect, they just get to enjoy the results of being born better. and think about it, imagine a college scenario, people with good genetics can party, hang out with friends, drink and just have a good time without facing the consequences because they were born to not have them. they won’t suffer health consequences because they’re born healthy or they won’t fail classes because they’re born smarter or they won’t struggle to fit in because they were born socially better or they won’t struggle with how attractive they are because they were born attractive

people like me have to work like donkeys to barley make it through life and at least for me i still can’t compete with a person with good genetics who never had to try. people with good genetics will get everything i want, get the attention from peers I want, can enjoy the nice things in life that i want, get the jobs i want, gets the life quality i want. some are just born winners and all the spoils go to them while lesser people like me are left with nothing and im so tired of living that reality.

Need Support i feel like it not rocd anymore :(

• Upvotes

My girlfriend and I have been together for three years, living a three-hour drive apart. about three weeks ago, everything was fine, except I was having doubts about my feelings for her due to the distance even though things went great whenever we saw each other on weekends. I’m not someone who misses people much; I don't really miss my family or friends, and I don't miss my girlfriend in that way either, though sometimes I wish she were there with me when I’m doing an activity, having a bad day, or feeling stressed. Sometimes I just want to be in her arms. Also, sometimes she wants eggs in the morning; I don't really feel like making them, but I do it anyway because I love seeing her happy and smiling.

But since last Thursday, I feel like I don't love her—like I’m not looking forward to seeing her, yet at the same time, I am looking forward to it. I keep questioning whether I still love her. I spend my days online looking for signs of whether I love her or not; sometimes the feeling comes back and I want to see her, and I know deep down that I do love her. Also, this morning she called me by a nickname I like, and I smiled, but I didn't feel love or happiness :( The same thing happened when she said she was proud of me—I smiled proudly, but I didn't feel anything. Right now, I feel neutral about the fact that we’re seeing each other on Friday :( but I do want to be with her. I don't understand. I just got off a call with her and I was happy; I was asking about the exam she took and was genuinely interested. I don't get it :( I don't want to break up or realize that I don't love her and if you ask me i would take care of her if she sick etc i would take care of her directly

but now i feel like every morning the first thing a think about is if i love her or not. i feel that each day i feel like when i call her i feel annoy by her even if i was the one that call her first or that i was happy to see her call me. like 1 week ago i thought about buying her a little surprise just like that because i want etc nd 2 day ago i was imagine life with her like together in our home and was happy and exciting because i would love to live with her and have our time appart and i feel like i dont love her each day :( and like i said sometime i have this moment of i dont know it like clarity and i feel like i know that i love her deep down

TL;DR i feel like i dont love her anymore but at the same time i love her :(

can it be fixed ? or not

Question How to stop thinking about death everyday?

• Upvotes

Is there any way for me to stop thinking about killing myself ??? Even after a happy moment where i enjoyed myself, my brain finds a reason to die out of nowhere. Im broke as a joke so can’t afford any therapist. Even if i go to therapist im scared that they’ll throw me into a psych ward. I’m from developing country that doesn’t take mental health seriously. Help this is ruining my life.
