Don’t get me wrong, I’m sick. Devastated. It feels like a complete waste of a year because it was.
That being said, it’s still true that we needed to make the Zubac trade.
Everything we said about the fact that there’s no true C (which we needed) in this draft is true.
Fact of the matter is, if we kept this pick, we still would have been disappointed in 5. We draft Keaton Wagler or Darius Acuff at 5 and those guys are buried in our rotation and not helping us next year.
We still gave up a guy that we weren’t resigning, a seldomly used role player, and a lottery ticket that didn’t pay out (and wouldn’t have regardless) for a big we needed.
In this league, you have to gamble, especially as a small market. We lost. But that doesn’t make the move itself bad. The trade was still worth it.
Now we pick ourselves up, quit feeling sorry for ourselves, and go into next season with the same team that made the finals, and a better C. Yes it sucks, but we move. Go Pacers

If we “get” the #5 pick, this trade was still worth it. There’s a big gap from top 2 to 3 & 4 and an even bigger drop from 4 to 5. So we were screwed getting the 5th pick regardless. But now we actually have a center.

On his most recent podcast Simmons laid out how Dybantsa would fit in with the current Pacers lineup and labeled him a “truly terrifying Indiana Pacer”. You guys agree? Is this who we want?

Why are we so upset about trading a 5-9 pick?
We literally just made the finals last year. The reason why this draft was such a big deal for us is because we had the chance to draft Boozer, Dybantsa, or Peterson. The whole deal was that a finals team was going to add a potential superstar talent. We never gave that chance up.
No player that we would get at 5-9 would be as valuable for us as Zubac. He's a top 5 center in this league and he can help us win right now. I'll be honest with you, any 5 through 9 guy is not going to help us win a championship in the next 2 or 3 years and that is where we need to be, and we desperately needed a center. No serious team is starting Jay Huff at center, or Isaiah Jackson, or Michah Potter.
We are trying to win now. Who cares about post-Haliburton eras when we just made the finals and can potentially make them again with a top center in the league? You all really need to realize where this team is actually at. If this pick doesn't convey for the Clippers we only traded one first in 2029 and I honestly think that is a very fair deal for Zu.

On Jeff’s podcast, he had Trey on and explained how he’s putting up all star numbers, but he won’t be an all star on a bad team. He says that if Trey gets traded to Indiana, he’ll have a much better shot

It is insane that Kessler not only needed a $130 million contract but because of RFA the Jazz Swindled 2 Firsts and 2 Swaps from the Lakers.
Zu has been healthier and is on a cheaper contract. Well worth the price in my opinion. Ben Math (who has not received a contract) + Unloading Ijax's thank you contract and 2 Firsts.

Post game 6 last year, we have seen:
Tyrese Haliburton tears his Achilles in game 7, we then lose the series, then the following year we have the worst season in our franchise’s history, make a contingent trade where we are 50-50 to lose our lottery pick, we then lose it, and THEN we will watch the New York Knicks, our greatest rival and the team we have owned for decades, likely win the finals which will include the greatest comeback of all time and a game winner that will be played over and over again for the rest of time made by… none other than OG Anunoby. The IU kid who we passed on way back in the day for TJ Leaf”
I genuinely don’t think you could write a worse script for Indiana Pacers fans than that

This game was so insane to watch. Just blatant refs bias. And pacers go up 3-1 then probably win in less than 7 and Hali would have never gotten hurt smh
