General Steam Next Fest & demos

Hi all! I wanted to make this post since Steam Next Fest is now in full swing, and I want to set clear expectations for r/playmygame.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting on this sub to self-promote, hoping it'll boost their standing in the Steam algorithm.

First, let me remind everyone of the purpose of the sub:

"A place for indie developers to share their freely playable games for feedback!"

This sub exists so you can find playtesters to try your prototype, tell you what's working (or not), what bugs you may have missed, etc.

It is not a sub for self-promotion (with an exception for Trailer Tuesdays). If we suspect your intent is to advertise, your post will get removed. Repeat offenders will get banned.

A quick reality check, and why self-promo doesn't make sense here:

  1. With 4,400 posts in the past 30 days, that's about one post every ten minutes. The odds of your post getting seen in the first place are pretty small.
  2. There are other subs that are better suited for that. They exist to advertise your game. r/gameDevPromotion is one.
  3. Other devs, generally speaking, are not your target audience. They may put in 15 minutes to help you out, but it rarely converts to sales.

Let's give developers who actually need playtesting the visibility they need, so when you need feedback on your new project, it's easier for you to get it as well.

Good luck with your demo, everyone.

If you are BRAND NEW to Reddit and want to post or share your game, read this beforehand!

Hi new Redditor! We're excited that you want to post about your game and have people play it. However, there's something you should know before you do.

Reddit will ban you if your first few posts/comments are links to somewhere.

Reddit has a robust, over-exuberant filtering system, necessary but for groups like this, it can be a slight pain. When you post your game and it's your first post, Reddit ASSUMES FIRST AND DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS LATER! You will be automatically shadowbanned, which means unable to post or even potentially comment.
Then we get a lot of posters coming to us in Modmail, asking " Why did my post disappear?" Nearly all Modmails are about this issue, roughly 3 a day.

Reddit is also a bit secretive about certain processes - how to get un-shadow-banned is not even really known to be possible. We don't see the record of shadowbanning at all so unless we know of the name and check it regularly, we wouldn't see it un-shadow-banned. We don't know how long your account needs to be open or how much Karma needs to be on it in order for the Filter to stop paying attention to you but we suspect around 100 Post and 100 Comment Karma.

So, if you are new to reddit and want to share your game - DON'T! Not yet, please go post cool/helpful/ positive comments and posts in other groups. Playtest other people's games here and comment on them prolifically. Once you have some "Reddit Post/Comment Karma" under your name first, THEN post your link to your game! You'll be less likely (but not immune, never immune) from being shadowbanned that way for sharing your game.

Edit: If AI recommended you post your game here....Don't Yet until you've developed your account as a good karma community member! This really isn't a "post and ghost" platform, it's community-first. AI doesn't realize this about Reddit.

P.S. This group is 100% responsible for getting accounts banned (when you don't do the steps above) but it's literally out of our control to reverse. So please....don't modmail us unless you KNOW you are not shadowbanned, you have the required karma, and yet your post is not showing up. Only then we can be of some help.

Game Title: Artcat

Playable Link: https://kisiou.itch.io/artcat

Platform: Web browser (desktop and mobile)

Description:

A while ago my 9-year-old daughter told me about a game she'd love to play: you're a cat with a little art studio, animals come in and order pictures, and you paint them for coins. So I made it for her. She loved it, and honestly I liked the concept so much myself that I decided to take it a bit further.

Artcat is a cozy pixel-art painting game. A client walks into your studio and shows you the picture they want. You paint it cell by cell with the paints you have, and you get paid by how closely it matches the order. A perfect match earns three stars and a very happy client. Between days you spend your coins on furniture to make your studio cozier. Every day brings new clients and bigger canvases.

Involvement: I'm the solo developer. I designed and built the game based on my daughter's idea, with a lot of help from AI tools, both for the code and the art. In the future I'm thinking about replacing the graphics with hand-made ones.

[PC] (Web) I made an online ski racing game where you play as cute animals doing cool tricks

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Game Title: Skibidi

Playable Link: https://play.skibidi.stream/?ref=reddit

Platform: Browser (Windows and Linux downloads are on the start screen, also free)

Description:

it's an arcade downhill ski racer. you pick one of 6 animals (fox, bunny, penguin, polar bear, red panda, frog) and race down a run with kickers, rollers, moguls and shortcut chutes. tricks off the jumps (spins, flips, grabs) give you speed if you land them clean, you can draft behind people and slingshot past, and you can throw snowballs at whoever's ahead of you

there's a knockout mode where the last rider through each checkpoint gate is out, 6 down to 3, then the last three race to the finish. you can race bots solo or go online with up to 6 players, there are a bunch of different mountains to race on, and there's a locker with gear and name borders to unlock

no account needed, you just start playing. google sign in is only there if you want to keep your progress

if you're on a PC I'd honestly recommend the desktop version. it runs a lot smoother and looks way better than the browser one, since the browser has to use godot's lighter renderer with no anti-aliasing and simpler lighting. the browser version is there so you can try it in 10 seconds without installing anything. the video was recorded from the desktop version on max settings

stuff I'd really like to know:

- did the controls make sense in your first race or did it take a while

- does knockout feel fair at the gates or does it feel cheap when you go out

- how it runs for you, browser or desktop + what GPU

any feedback helps, even "this sucks because X"

Game Title: RakuWorld Survival

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5382580/

Platform: PC (Steam)

Description:

Hi! I'm Seto, an indie game developer and creator of RakuWorld Survival!

RakuWorld is a co-op survivors-like game where you can draw your own hero using a simple in-game drawing editor. Even if you've never drawn on a computer before, there's a guided drawing mode to help you get started!

Once you've created your character, you can choose a class, unlock weapons, use special powers, and unleash ultimate abilities while fighting against waves of enemies.

The game combines paper cut-out and crayon-style characters with a charming retro PS1-inspired 3D world. You can play solo or with up to four players, locally or online, and your custom-drawn hero travels with you into multiplayer sessions.

My goal is to bring creativity and imagination into the survivors-like genre, allowing players to become the heroes they imagine.

RakuWorld Survival launches in Early Access on Steam on October 31!

What would you draw first? 😄

Game Title: "Rayborne"

Playable Link (Free Demo with 20 levels): https://store.steampowered.com/app/4359960/Rayborne/

Platform: PC

Description: We know - it looks like a Portal but it is not (it only inspired us and everyone after 5 minutes of playing it says: "Ok, it's not portal. But it looks on the first glance like portal". While waiting for a new Portal game, we decided to build our own puzzle game after-hours. Instead of portals, we took only laser mechanics and created portal-like game around that + additional other mechanics like logic gates or more types of barriers. We basically took our favorite elements from Portal and The Talos Principle and combined them together.

Also we have a story, but because of no-budget we decided to tell it with drawings on the walls. On every level we have at least one decal and after combining all of them you can figure out the story. It is little inconvinient (maybe?) but from playtests we know that it is possible and pretty straigh-forward.

So If you enjoyed playing portal or the Talos principle (that inspired us to make this game - check the demo (it should take around 30 minutes to finish it - it depends on how good you are at puzzle games)

[PC] (Web) I made a physics sandbox where you can build pretty much any vehicle you can imagine

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Game Title: Terrahaul

Playable link: https://terrahaul.certe.fi

I've been working on a game called Terrahaul, a physics-based sandbox where you build your own vehicles and whatever strange mechanical contraptions you can come up with.

The main idea is to build your own machines from scratch. You can combine beams, wheels, motors, axles, springs, hydraulics, and other mechanical parts. Everything is physics-based, so your brilliant designs might work perfectly... or collapse spectacularly.

There's also more to do than just building. You can explore alien planets, collect crystals, and mine minerals using lasers. You can then use the resources you've collected to build even better machines.

The game is still in active development, but I've reached the point where I feel it's ready for people to start playing.

Singleplayer is completely free, runs directly in your browser, and requires no installation. Multiplayer is available to Patreon supporters to help fund development. There are persistent multiplayer planets where you can build and explore with your friends (or steal your neighbor's vehicle if you're not feeling particularly friendly).

How to play:

Once you're in the game, start by following the tutorial.

  1. Move the camera using the middle mouse button. Notice how the building grid rotates to align with your camera view.
  2. Follow the tutorial. It shows you which buttons to press and what parts to place on the grid. You can place beams and axles by dragging on the grid with the left mouse button.
  3. Test your vehicle by clicking the "Test Drive" button. If your vehicle moves or steers in the wrong direction, you can reverse the sliders or motors in the part settings. Just select the part using the "Select" tool.
  4. Explore the planets! Once you've got your vehicle working, try taking it to one of the alien planets. Explore the terrain, collect crystals, and see what challenges you can overcome with your creations!

I'd love to see what kinds of machines people come up with!

Thanks for checking it out!

[PC] (Web) The Long Season – a Papers Please-style booth where you ask the passengers anything and they lie to your face (free, browser, solo or co-op)

Game Title: The Long Season

Playable Link: https://dporto.itch.io/the-long-season?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=playmygame

Platform: PC, in the browser (nothing to install). Trailer: https://youtu.be/MCW_S1mDwFw

Description: The Long Season is a passport-control mystery. You run the booth of a sunny tax-haven island where golden passports sell fast and the checks have just been tightened. There are no dialogue options: you type, or say out loud, whatever you want to ask, and the passengers answer in character. They get nervous, change the subject, invent excuses on the spot. Then you check their papers, dig through the suitcase, call the hotel or the employer, read the records, and stamp. Whatever they told you, they have to stand by it until you corner them with proof.

Two in-game days are playable now and a day takes about 25 minutes. You can play alone or online with up to three people at the same booth, one asking the questions and the others checking the story. English and Italian, plus ten other languages.

What I'd love feedback on: did you catch a liar, and how? Where did you get stuck or bored? Did the first day explain enough, or too much?

Disclosure: the passengers are played by a language model at runtime, inside character sheets I write; the facts of each case are fixed game data, so every lie can be caught. The pixel art is hand-edited over AI-generated drafts, and the code was written with AI assistance.

You can play quick quizzes or choose a category, with a short explanation after each answer. Daily challenges offer different ways to use your knowledge, including identifying connections between cars and comparing their power or release dates.

There are also six asynchronous duel modes. Both players receive the same questions, but you can each play on your own schedule without needing to be online together.

As you play, you can discover and unlock collectible cars, build your virtual collection, and track your progress. The game supports English and Brazilian Portuguese.

[PC] (Web) I finally built the strategy game I always dreamed of: Flodrikena, free in the browser (desktop + mobile)

• Upvotes

Playable Link: https://samanmuradi.itch.io/flodrikena

"Flodrikena is a small grand-strategy game set after the fall of a Bronze Age river empire. You start with forty men, a little gold and no land. So do eleven other houses. Found a village among the ruins, marry, scheme, trade or go to war, and try to take the old capital and the crown."

Every ruler has traits, ambitions and memories of what you did to them, and you can ask anyone "Why?" to see exactly what they weigh before they act. Armies march on the map as the soldiers they're made of, towns grow from huts into walled cities, and battles play out where you can see them.

About me: I'm a web developer with several years of JavaScript and frontend behind me and a strategy game of my own has been a dream since I was a kid. I started it many times and never got far. This time I work document-first: I write the design for each version, decide what goes in and what doesn't, and use Claude to help write and test the code. The map art and the music are generated by code in the browser, not hand-drawn or hand-composed.

It's free, runs in the browser on desktop and phone, and a short tutorial gets you going in a few minutes.

What I'd love to hear: where did you get stuck, or stop playing? Even one sentence helps.

[PC] (Web) MLB Shuffle Arcade

• Upvotes

Playable Link: https://ohmyjosh1.itch.io/mlb-shuffle-arcade

Platform: Browser (desktop and tablet) and Downloadable PC game

Anyone remember the "mlb.com Shuffle" game from about 20 years ago?

A few weeks ago I started thinking about this game that I used to play so I went down the rabbit hole trying to find it online. There's very little information about it that has survived (at least as far as I could find). So I went about re-making it, and now I'm sharing it with the world. Before my description below let me say a few things. It is NOT optimized for cell phones (yet?) so playing on a computer or tablet would work best. I don't claim any copyright and am using rosters and logos as "fair use" I DID use AI to help me code the game. I know some people find that distasteful, but it wouldn't exist otherwise and I made it for myself to play - so if you're anti-AI, just feel free to ignore this post. I recreated the game as best as my memory could remember, and then added some additional things to make it even better (Manager-Choice cards that can help OR hurt your lineup, ability to play with ANY MLB season since 1901, ability to incorporate your fantasy rosters into the bonus scoring by adding a csv file (instructions are in the game), multiple ways to play (EASY (top 400 players) or HARD (ALL players), and more). I would love some feedback but really I just want people to enjoy the game. It is fun to play and the game only takes a couple minutes.

MLB SHUFFLE: Arcade Edition

A retro video-poker style baseball card game where diamond strategy meets roster-building synergy.

Draw, hold, discard, and build the ultimate 10-man lineup over nine high-stakes innings. Whether you are chaining together real-life MLB team chemistries, hunting for rare two-way unicorns, or loading your own personal fantasy league squad, MLB Shuffle combines classic video-poker decision-making with authentic baseball sabermetrics.

Key Features

  • Video-Poker Meets the Diamond: Receive 5 player cards per inning. Hold your best prospects, discard replacement-level bats, and drag eligible players into their natural fielding positions (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, P, and DH).
  • Massive Synergy Cascades: Score compounding bonuses for real-world chemistry—stack same-team players from 2 up to a 9-man juggernaut, or link up historic positional pairs like Keystone (2B + SS), Corners (1B + 3B), Outfield Trios, and the Battery (P + C).
  • Manager Chance Cards & Mound Visits: Deal with sudden twists between the 2nd and 7th innings—from positive boosts like Contract Year Surge (+100 pts) and Double Card Value, to brutal slumps like Flu Game Gone Wrong or Blister Trouble. In the 8th inning, call a 500-point Manager Mound Visit to guarantee a late-game tactical edge.
  • Historical MLB Universe (1901–2026): Play with active 2026 rosters or pull any historic MLB season on the fly, with authentic statistical performance scaling, team color themes, and official franchise crests.
  • Custom Fantasy League Integration: Bring your home fantasy league into the game! Upload your league's roster CSV to activate custom positional eligibility, owner tags, and escalating Fantasy Pride point bonuses whenever your players share the field.
  • Two Play Formats & Difficulty Tiers: Compete for the Hall of Fame in Final Inning Board Chase (optimizing your permanent 9th-inning squad) or Cumulative Series Tally (arcade point accumulation across every single frame). Choose between the streamlined Easy Pool (Top ~400 stars) or the punishing Hard Pool (Top ~700 full rosters).
  • Retro Stadium Scoreboard: Hall of Fame leaderboards rendered on the outfield brick wall inspired by classic ballpark retired number monuments.

Controls & Details

  • Platform: Windows Desktop (Portable Standalone .exe) & Web Browser (HTML5)
  • Input: Mouse (Click-to-place, drag-and-drop, and card hold toggles)
  • Audio: Fully synthesized retro arcade chimes, organ fanfares, and deck-shuffle sound effects

[PC] (Web) I just released my Norse-inspired roguelite, and I'd love some honest feedback

• Upvotes

Game Title: Nordveigr

Playable Link: https://erathul.itch.io/nordveigr

Platform: HTML5 – Browser (Windows, macOS, Linux)

Description:

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a small turn-based tactical roguelite called Nordveigr, inspired by Norse mythology and great games like Hoplite, Slay the Spire and Into the Breach.

The main idea is pretty simple: enemies telegraph their attacks, and instead of just fighting back, you can dodge, reposition them, or even trick them into hitting each other..

You collect runes, experiment with different abilities, and gradually unlock more options between runs. There are five playable characters, each with their own unique mechanic.

A run takes roughly 30 minutes, and you can play directly in your browser without downloading anything.

The game is still a prototype, and I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement. That's why I'd genuinely appreciate some outside perspectives.

I'm particularly interested in:

  • Does the combat feel fun and intuitive?
  • Is the difficulty challenging or just frustrating?
  • Is there anything that feels confusing or unnecessarily complicated?

Even if you only play for a few minutes, I'd love to hear what you think. Honest criticism is very welcome!

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement:

I'm the creator of Nordveigr. I've been working on the game design, mechanics, and overall experience, using AI-assisted tools for development, including code, graphics, text, and audio.

This is a personal project, and I'm trying to learn what works, what doesn't, and what could make the game genuinely enjoyable for others.

Thanks!

[Mobile] (Android) Color Block Puzzle — the combo doesn't reset between turns

• Upvotes

**Game Title:** Color Block Puzzle

**Playable Link:** https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cubeclear.app

**Platform:** Android (Google Play)

**Description:** Solo dev here. I kept quitting block puzzles because one bad turn killed my combo and the run felt dead — so in mine, the combo survives as long as you clear at least one line per deal. That's the whole hook, and it changes how you play: you start setting up clears two moves ahead. The GIF is a real run — combo x1 climbing to x6 and wiping the whole board.

What's in it: 8x8 drag-and-drop block puzzle with original art (sunset theme), Adventure mode with 30 levels, a Daily challenge, and one Revive per run. No timers, no lives, no energy — play at your own pace.

I'd honestly love feedback from puzzle players: what makes you keep a game like this past day one?

**Free to Play Status:** Completely free to play. Ads only: an interstitial every 3rd game over, plus an optional rewarded ad if you use the Revive. Nothing interrupts mid-game.

**Involvement:** I designed and built the game myself (solo developer, WoowStudios).

Game Title: UNREAD CASES 015 — The Unfinished Cup

Playable Link: https://015.unreadcases.workers.dev/

Platform: Web browser — desktop and mobile

Description:

Six places were set. Only five people stood up again.

Harbour House has been sold, and Ada Vale has invited five people back for one last tea before handing over the keys. Someone wants weaker tea. Someone notices a chipped handle. Then Ada takes a drink, and an awkward farewell becomes a murder investigation.

The Unfinished Cup is a standalone detective mystery where you explore three rooms, examine eighteen exhibits, and question the survivors. To solve it, you’ll need to reconstruct the seating arrangement, trace the cups as they change hands, and work out who prepared what.

I wanted the deductions to connect, so identifying someone with a motive won’t be enough. Your explanation needs to fit the physical evidence too.

There’s no timer. You can take notes, compare evidence, and use optional hints if you get stuck. The game includes atmospheric music, saved progress, and English and Chinese language options. Expect around 30–50 minutes, depending on how thoroughly you investigate.

[Mobile] (Web) Word Mastermind: a free browser word game where every guess only tells you how many letters match

• Upvotes

Game Title: Word Mastermind

Playable Link: https://wordmastermind.app

Platform: Web browser (desktop and mobile)

Description:
Word Mastermind is a deduction word game based on Jotto, the classic pencil-and-paper game. Your opponent has a hidden 5-letter word with no repeated letters. After each guess you learn only how many letters your guess shares with it, never which ones or where. For example, bunny against beach scores 1. An anagram scores 5 but doesn't win, so you still have to find the exact word.

You can play solo, against a computer at four strengths from Casual to Mastermind, or against a friend, either live or one move a day. There's also a Daily Word that everyone gets on the same day. On Easy the game marks letters in or out for you; on Medium you mark them yourself.
It runs in any modern browser with no download, sign-up or ads.

What I'd most like feedback on:
Did the scoring make sense right away, or did you need the tutorial?
Which computer strength felt right, and was any of them unfair?
Anything confusing or broken, especially on phones.

Free to Play Status: ✅Free to play

Involvement: I'm the solo developer with AI assistance. I designed it and run it myself.

Game Title: Load Bearing

Playable Link: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6799301571?pt=129122330&ct=reddit_playmygame&mt=8

Platform: iOS and Android (test version)

Description: I wanted to combine my love for falling block and roguelite games and have boss fights at the end of every fifth difficulty. Load Bearing is a falling-block roguelite where every floor is a different job: lay the foundation, raise the columns, survey the site, controlled demolition, lay the slab, punch list. Four foremen, twenty building codes, and a well that won’t sit still. Next week, I have a power pieces patch I'm releasing and testing new levels and a fifth foreman for November.

• Paid app, keys available for Android for testing, please DM me, and I’ll set up at least the first 10, and if you are willing to give some feedback, I do have some iOS keys I can give out.

I’d love to hear what you think about the combat, difficulty, and upgrades. Bug reports are welcome too!

My goal is to bring it to Steam, and your feedback would help me get there.

[Mobile] (Android) Coral Paradise — rotate underwater 3D boards and match tiles (Android)

• Upvotes

Playable Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coralparadise.game

Platform: Android

Description: Coral Paradise is an underwater 3D tile-matching puzzle game. You drag to rotate the reef-shaped board, look around it for uncovered tiles, and tap those tiles into a seven-slot tray. Three identical tiles clear together, so the challenge is finding a useful match without filling the tray with too many different tiles. Rotating the board can reveal options that were hidden from the front.

The game uses ocean-themed tile designs and different underwater settings. It also includes hints, undo, shuffle and other boosters for tighter situations. Depending on the level, you may need to complete an objective within a timer or move limit, so it is not entirely pressure-free. I would appreciate feedback on how clearly the opening levels explain tile availability and whether the tray and icons are readable on your phone. If you try it, please share your device model alongside any performance problems.

Free to Play Status: Free to play, with ads and in-app purchases.

Involvement: I'm the developer behind Coral Paradise at IAI Technologies.

[Mobile] (iOS) RIFTLINE: a free sci-fi endless runner for iPhone (swipe to turn, one life, upgrade your gear)

• Upvotes

Game Title: RIFTLINE

Playable Link: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/riftline/id6813675551?pt=129462471&ct=reddit&mt=8

Platform: iOS (iPhone, iOS 17 or later)

Description: RIFTLINE is an endless sci-fi runner set in the abandoned Orpheus facility. You swipe to turn, jump and slide through a single path full of sharp corners, gaps and broken bridges, trying to outrun the last signal before it fades. It's one life per run: a single mistake ends it, which keeps every corner tense. Between runs you bank the Scrap you collected and spend it upgrading six pieces of gear, so each attempt carries you a little further than the last. If you want a second chance, an optional rewarded ad can give you one extra life when it's available, but you never have to watch one. There are no in-app purchases at all, and the whole game plays offline, so it works on a commute or a flight. I'd love to hear how the difficulty curve feels in the first couple of minutes and whether the turns read clearly at speed. More info and screenshots: https://tommakesgames.uk/riftline/

Free to Play Status: - [x] Free to play - [ ] Demo/Key available - [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement: I'm Tom, the solo developer. I designed and programmed the game and put together the art and audio myself.

Disclosure: I used AI tools to help with some of the code and art.
