Discussion Who is the most 'famous' person from your community?

It could be in the arts, business, politics or something notorious. EG Moose Jaw could be Lorne Calvert or Colin Thatcher. Or Carl Imhoff who was a famous artist who moved to St Walburg. Or Brent Butt from Tisdale. Or Tatiana Maslany from Regina.

Discussion Minimum Wage

I see the Feds are increasing the Federal Minimum Wage to $18:15

Saskatchewan has to get real, $15.35 doesn’t come close to being a living wage.

In discussions with other people that were also there he finds out they were waiting 8 and 10 and 12 hours. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Our provincial government is risking peoples lives for what…privatization??? ISNT IT TIME WE STOOD UP TO THESE DO NOTHING SO CALLED LEADERS AND DEMAND CHANGE? People are dying. Are we ok sitting back and letting this happen. TIME TO WAKE UP TO THE REALITY THAT IF YOU GO TO URGENT CARE OR TO EMERGENCY THAT YOU MAY NOT MAKE IT.

Discussion Rural resident here, The state of healthcare is despicable.

Let me start this off by explaining my perspective. I have lived in this province for 21 years, throughout my time here I have seen nothing but a dramatic decline in not only accessibility but quality of care.

Going to a hospital or clinic nowadays is a gamble, it’s a gamble on whether or not they will see you, it’s a gamble on the quality of the healthcare workers, these are things no tax paying Canadian should have to worry about.

And yet, somehow, the Saskatchewan government has abandoned its people. 1 in 4 (300,000) Saskatchewan residents do not have access to a family doctor. These people are left with either walk in clinics or hospital emergency rooms. None of which are built to handle that constant amount of people.

I personally have had to rely on emergency rooms for basic services like drug prescriptions for illness or tests for infection.

Around me during these 5+ hour waits are people who deserve better than an emergency waiting room. Elders in particular are a sad sight in these places. Shouldn’t our eldest deserve better than the cold indifference of plastic chairs and efflorescent lights?

And then I look around to our leaders for a glimmer of hope.

Complete and total apathy. It disgusts me to no end. Scott Moe and his pack of ghouls would sooner pass gun laws than supply our public services with what they and the people so desperately need.

The NDP are nothing but attack dogs looking for a bone (to be fair there are plenty) but they fail to meet rural voters where they are.

I don’t care what fucking colour I have to vote for. Someone just figure this shit out. That’s what we pay you for after all.

Discussion A new biker gang moving in?

My brother works for Cameco at Key Lake, he was telling me today that there’s a bunch of construction workers from Alberta up there wearing ā€œSatan’s Choiceā€ gang paraphernalia and talking about how they’re here to take down the Hell’s Angels.

Has anyone heard about these guys and if they’re a threat? It feels like the last thing we need here now is a biker war.

Discussion Sask. Marshalls: Something I did not know and also find disturbing?

Today I was driving to town as we are rural. I have a bit of a hammer foot and was doing about 118 on a divided highway from Saskatoon to PA. Out of nowhere, I was passed by a white truck and I estimate he had to be doing at least 160 as it was almost as if I were standing still. Within a minute I could no longer see him in from of me.

In just a few minutes I came upon a Sask Marshalls vehicle parked on a grid road, and the truck had to have sped past it recently.

When I got home I googled a query as to what a Sask Marshall might do for traffic speed stops, and it states that the mandate is more gang/theft and human trafficking related.

I don't know but I feel like that idiot driver speeding to that extent should have been pulled over? I suppose I could have reported the driver but he was going too fast for me to even catch the plate.

Thoughts?

Discussion Cost of food for family of 4 (2025) in Saskatchewan

From the SHA, the provincial average cost for a family of four is $366.08. We know grocery prices continue to rise and I am not sure if this was early 2025 or later.

Does this fit in with what your grocery costs are? Have you made a lot of changes (ie not shopping American, buying lower costs foods, eating at home more)? Just curious how my Saskatchewanians peers are doing?

Discussion I sure hope the Sask Party doesn’t charge people for the Covid vaccine.

Alberta has already done this. Will charge people $100 for Covid shots. This is very dangerous. More people will get sick and potentially die because they can’t afford it. We can’t let this happen in Saskatchewan.

Discussion What’s it like to live in Saskatchewan?

I’ve lived in Vancouver and now in Montreal for a good amount of years. Now it really surprises me the house price and potentially the cost of living in the sk and really motivated to move there.

I’ve searched online and had some general ideas about the pros and cons, but still want to hear it out from the people. Would there be some major question i need to consider and that could be the reason why its so cheap?

Discussion What’s the connection with Monette Farms and the Saskparty government?

Post image
117 Upvotes

I’m curious to know what connections Monette Farms, who recently filed for creditor protection, and Scott Moe’s government? They obviously used Monette Farms as backdrops for their re-election campaign, but what does it say about a government that claims to represent ā€œrural saskā€ when they so clearly only care about the corporate agri-business model, not the small farmer.

This reminds me of the old dial up internet as a kid. I have their 1gig and just moved to the province, only service provider. Fiber connection and wifi can’t even load the router login to change the name. Why can’t I change it from the app? Why is their website as good as a government website? Only have 2.4g wifi? Monthly addition for ā€œwhole homeā€ what even is that.

Discussion Balanced Budget Mirage: SK Party Racks Up 30B in Debt

Post image
221 Upvotes

Premier Scott Moe’s latest budget confession hits like a gut punch for Saskatchewan taxpayers. Just days before the March 18 reveal, he’s admitting a hefty deficit for 2026-27, ditching his election vow to balance the books by 2027-28.

This isn’t new territory for Moe or his Saskatchewan Party crew, who’ve been singing the balanced budget tune since taking power in 2007, only to rack up deficits in most years since.

Back in 2020, Moe pledged a return to black ink by 2024, blaming the pandemic for a $2.1 billion hole. That didn’t happen. Under his watch since 2018, the province has posted five deficits in six years, ballooning debt from $17.6 billion to over $31 billion.

The Sask Party’s overall track record? Just one balanced budget in the last nine years, with net debt nearly doubling during their reign. Critics like the NDP slam it as worse than Grant Devine’s infamous 1980s mess, which nearly bankrupted the province.

Moe points to global woes like trade tariffs and economic jitters for the red ink. But the fallout lands hardest on kids and seniors, groups often caught in the crossfire of his fiscal fixes. Families face PST on groceries and children’s clothes, hikes that the opposition calls brutal amid rising child poverty rates topping 78,000 kids province-wide.

Education funding? Over 130 schools sit in poor or critical shape, with past cuts sparking outcry.

Seniors aren’t faring much better. Health care strains from underfunding mean longer waits and squeezed services, even as Moe touts no new cuts this round. Granted, he’s rolling out tax breaks like bumping seniors’ supplements by $500 yearly through 2028, saving couples $2,100 over four years. But with power rate jumps and no rent controls amid 49% hikes since he took office, many feel the squeeze more than the relief.

As Moe steers toward another shortfall, questions swirl: How long can the promise machine run on empty? Saskatchewan folks deserve straight talk, not more fiscal smoke and mirrors.

Discussion Went down a rabbit hole on how cheap rural land in Saskatchewan actually gets (tax sales) and ended up building a free map of them

This started as idle curiosity and got out of hand. I wanted to know how cheap rural land in Saskatchewan actually gets, and it turns out when someone stops paying property taxes long enough, the town or RM can eventually sell the parcel by tender or auction to recover the back taxes. Some of these go for surprisingly little, serviced town lots included.

The problem: there is no central list. Every town and RM advertises its own sales separately, usually in a local paper (the Shellbrook Chronicle, the Moose Jaw Express, the Last Mountain Times and so on), sometimes just a PDF buried on the RM's website, sometimes only in the Provincial Gazette. By the time a normal person hears about one, the tender has already closed.

So I ended up building a free map that pulls all of these into one place, with optional email alerts by region when new ones show up. No login, and no paywall on the listings.

Three honest caveats before anyone gets excited:

- A parcel on a tax-enforcement list is NOT the same as for sale. The owner can pay up or sell privately right until title actually transfers, so a name on an enforcement list does not mean you can buy it. I only flag the ones that are genuinely advertised for sale.

- Most sell by sealed tender with a minimum bid and a deposit, and the closing windows are short.

- As-is. Do your own title and condition homework, and note that SK farmland ownership rules limit most buyers to Saskatchewan residents.

Posting because I figure others have hit the same wall. Link in a comment so this isn't just an ad, and genuinely happy to explain how the tender process works for a specific town.

Discussion Raised my tenants rent $200 and they completely lost it

So I raised the rent $200 on my place in Saskatoon and these people acted like I just ruined their entire life.

Insurance went up. Taxes went up. Everything went up. So yeah I raised the rent.

Vacancy rate is basically nothing right now so it’s not like they can’t find another place if they don’t like it.

One of them said ā€œthe NDP said rents should be frozenā€ like that means anything. Another one asked if I could just ā€œeat the cost this year.ā€ Bro I’m not a charity. I still gotta pay the mortgage and everything else.

People act like landlords are automatically the bad guys every time rent goes up. Reality is everything costs more and someone has to cover it. Guess who that is? Not the government.

Anyone else dealing with this or am I just supposed to lose money so tenants can feel good?

Discussion Rural road access

I was out driving on a rural road over the holidays to do some wildlife photography, and had a scary exchange with a man in a truck. I had pulled over into a roadside pull-out to look at my map and they parked behind me, leaving me with no way to leave. He then took a few photos of me and my vehicle (assuming to capture a plate #?), then proceeded to get out of his vehicle and start yelling at me about how I shouldn’t be there, asking where I came from, why I came here, etc. I rolled down my window a crack (too scared to get out of the vehicle) and mentioned that I’m just out doing photography and that I’ll be on my way soon. He reiterated that I shouldn’t be there and told me to leave, then pulled back and waited for me to pull out and take off.

I found this experience quite jarring. At first when they pulled up, I assumed they would be asking me if I needed help or needed directions. But to be yelled at alone in a rural area with no cell service feels really uncalled for. Just to reiterate, I was on a public rural road, not a private farm road to someone’s property. I also hadn’t pulled into anyone’s field.

So now I’m wondering - do I not have every right to be there? Aren’t these roads maintained for public use? Am I out of line in thinking that they were out of line? What should I have done in this situation? Is there anything I’m missing here? I understand there are concerns about rural crime, but confronting someone who hasn’t done anything wrong is really uncalled for. Property owners don’t have exclusive rights to the publicly funded roads. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard about these kind of exchanges out of rural roads, in some cases this happens when First Nations are simply out observing their treaty rights, or simply someone like me who’s just out enjoying nature on a public road. I think the intent of that individual was to scare people off to ā€œprotect their propertyā€, so I wanted to offer the pov of the person on the other side. Maybe think a bit more before making assumptions and jumping to conclusions…

Saw this in r/Fallout and thought I'd share. Never thought of having a fallout game set in Saskatchewan but this post kinda changed my mind. Thinking about it, it would be so fun to roam around the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Saskatchewan in the fallout universe.

What's everyone thoughts? I'm curious lol

Edit: This was on a post discussing where people would want a new fallout game to take place if Bethesda were limited to Canada only.
