And they LOVED it! An incredibly rainy summer, tornados, and wildfire smoke and these guys are super happy. They look like actual bushes. First picture is from February 2026 and second is from October 2026.

Excited to see them bloom as days get shorter.

🔔 SHAME 🔔 I am officially traumatized and retiring from succulents 😭

This was my second attempt at keeping a succulent alive.

My first one was literally murdered in my hostel, someone uprooted it and I found its body three floors down on the pavement.

I bought this second one thinking it was supposed to be "low maintenance." I left for another city for 6 days, came back to my room, and found it looking like a biological horror movie set. It has this weird white alien fuzz all over the center and the leaves are completely mushy.

I watered it exactly once every 10 days, but I guess the soil completely betrayed me. Honestly, I'm too creeped out to even touch it or try to save the tiny shriveled baby on the side. I'm throwing the whole pot away, walking away, and buying a plastic fake plant.

Please tell me someone else has been completely grossed out by a rotting succulent before because I feel like this thing is going to jump and attack me 💀

Help I don’t think these will survive long

To preface this, I have tons of plants experience but I have never owned any succulents (besides one single cactus that I’ve had for 12 years).

I have never been very interested in succulents, although this display really caught my eye at a local nursery so I brought it home. My concern was that these plants are packed in here so tight that they will soon start killing each other off…. The nursery worker ensured me that they will be able to live like this for years but I’m having a hard time believing that.

Can these plants actually live tightly compacted like this for years, or will I need to separate them? If they are too tight, can I transfer them to a larger box as is?

I rescued these babies back in April from a garden center. They’ve just been chilling under my lights since, largely ignored except for glances to admire and ensure they’re still alive.

I’ve had a particularly busy few weeks and with the thrip issue with a few of my succulents I’ve dealt with (they’re gone, everyone survived, thanks to bonide granules), I feel like I haven’t seen much of my other succs. I’ve been in the iso ICU with the others.

Long story short, I just spotted the big middle guy had something poking out of him, and at first I thought it was mold and my heart was in my ass. UNTIL! I picked him up, and behold: it’s a flower!!!

I teared up a little, y’all. I’ve been going through it with the thrips and was so devastated. I felt real plant mom guilt (I have real skin children, so the mom guilt is innate lol). I don’t know what I did to deserve this lithops gift. Nothing, perhaps literally.

I just love my plants. No one else on earth would understand except this subreddit lol

Thanks for reading ❤️

I have an aloe problem. They just never die on their own. They just get bigger and have kids. I don't have the room for all of them. I know I could throw them in the compost, but I want to see if you all have a better idea. TIA

Caring for her brings me feelings of joy and fulfillment. I feel so at peace when I’m doing my little ritual of trimming, bottom watering, and fertilizing these ethereal beings. She demonstrates her gratitude by showing her bright coral florals and budding plenty of new blooms.

So I posted a video of my Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus, who looks like mealy bug cactus.

And I’m here to share with you another bug species, Pelecyphora aselliformis. It’s fascinating that they are not even from the same family, however they look like cousin tome. Both from Mexico. This one here looks a lot like pill bug.

I personally fall in love more with Pelecyphora aselliformis, the one in this post.

Mine is rather small, I can’t wait to see them getting bigger.

Also I put two photos of them, so you could see the differences here. Actually the differences between bugs🤣

Meme/Joke Mealybugs make my skin crawl!!

They look like a bit of mould or cotton wool until you lean in and realise the mould has legs and is currently living in the armpit of your plant. Instant heebie-jeebies, nightmare fuel!!🙂‍↔️😷 The mealy texture, the way they cluster in dense white masses, the slow, deliberate movement when disturbed. They’re soft little sacks of sap that collapses like an overripe grape someone’s already stepped on, yet somehow fastened so firmly it feels like the plant is being parasitized by something that should at least have the decency to be hard and armoured like a scale insect which would already be disgusting enough as a parasite but the softness makes it so much worse because you know it’s made of goo, all while they’re permanently dusted in this mealy white wax that isn’t quite powder, isn’t quite fluff, and isn’t quite paste until the exact moment it touches anything, at which point it smears into a greasy film that gets on your gloves, your plant, your soul, and somehow you still feel the greasy smear along the underside of your fingers like it’s under your nails anyway.

Seeing this post just now brought back some memories and I had to get this out😭 Lovely plant though. The real ones just don’t have the same charm

Help Cold hardy Blue Agave newbie.

Thumbnail

Hey folks.
I purchased a cold hardy blue agave and have it in a pot.
I used a mix of Fox Farms Happy Frog and perlite as I had bags of it lying around.

The plant was shipped bare root and left it for a week and a half so far. We put some black pebbles on the soil so it looked nice but I checked today and the soil still seems damp and I’m not sure the e roots filled in with the soil all that well when I potted it.

Attaching pictures as the outer leaves that were yellowing a little have continued to yellow and turn grey and rolled.
Even the newer growth tips are turning grey.
I have not watered it yet and it’s been 1.5-2 weeks since potting

Any tips for helping this plant thrive would be very welcome.
Im thinking of removing the stones so the soil can properly dry

Oh and the plant is kept inside with plenty of light.

This is my first ever attempt to make babies and it worked 😍 tried both the string in the window and just placing some on top of soil. Both seems to work here

Help Is my setup okay? New to succulents

Hello, succulent enthusiasts!

My experience is in growing flowers on my windowsill, but I'm branching out a little. I have a tiny cactus, but I otherwise have zero experience outside of flowers.

I just purchased this echeveria at a nearby store. The roots were intact, and the plant looks nice and green (but had a couple yellow leaves that came off when I touched them), and I repotted it into my favorite pot.

I've potted it in a roughly 50-50 mix of Miracle-Gro's Cactus/Succulent Mix and Perlite (I didn't know that brand was...less than ideal until after I bought it).

The soil was still slightly damp, as I just repotted a cactus I had in there, but the soil the echeveria came in was bone-dry, so I'm going to assume it's fine that there's still some residual dampness inside the current pot's soil? I added a decent mix of dry soil to be safe.

This plant will be on a windowsill during the daytime. I've read they really prefer direct sunlight (the label it came with said half-shaded was fine, so I bought it, but now I'm reading differently), but I live in an apartment, so I don't have anywhere outdoors to plant it. I don't have a south-facing window, but I get some sunlight. Should I invest in a grow light?

Thank you in advance!
