I (49M) recently fed my tarantula Chalupa (5F) three crickets. Noticing that they were relatively small feeders, I decided to toss a fourth cricket into her enclosure to ensure she received an adequately sized meal. In response, she kicked hairs at me! Ever since then, I’ve been feeling confused, overbearing, and a little hurt. Also, I’ve noticed that her BFF Sir Ping of Pong (3M) has been giving me the side eye. I’m now completely lost and am even questioning my ability to properly care for my beloved pet. AITA?

I am so excited! My Chaco got here yesterday, and my goodness is she gorgeous! Her name is Jax (yes my Curly Hair is named Pomni)

When I joked with coworkers that she was going to be as big as my palm, I was correct. She is a big girl and I adore her already…I can’t wait to see her grow.

So far she did a bit of wall surfing last night, has fully explored her enclosure, completely emptied her water bowl twice, and has decided instead of the awesome burrow I started her under her cork bark…that the plant makes a better place to hide…🤣🤣😂😂

Her name is fitting…chaos in less that 24 hours…

Pictures Spent 7 hours excavating a corner out of his habitat while meticulously emptying his water dish by a combination of tipping & filling it with soil. He is now laying down in aforementioned dish.

I got her today. She crawled onto my hand when I opened the box, I took a pic and put her in her enclosure carefully and she went to take a sip of water.

She's a 7 year old Grammostola pulchra 🖤🕷

Help! Advice/Inspo for Cat-Proof Displays?

Thumbnail

My worst fear came true the other day— my cat was somehow able to slide the magnetic lid off one of my T’s enclosures. Thankfully she was ok, but I found the poor thing stressed and bald in my dog’s toy bin. I have since tried using twist ties through the air holes to keep the lids from being able to slide, which he has chewed off, and used rows of packing tape around the shelving to block him without restricting too much airflow (he gets around this easily).
He is one of those cats that fears nothing. Loves water, spraying doesn’t work. Loves foil. Unbothered by sticky sheets. I don’t have a room that I can put them in where he can’t get to them just as easily, but am at a loss as to how to keep him out without restricting airflow to the enclosures.
I plan to try some kind of child proofing locks, but I am hoping someone here has some other genius cat proofing hacks or enclosures. I’m worried that for their safety, I have to rehome them

Just curious I was looking to the future when my sling will need a permanent upgrade and tarantula cribs is great I’d imagine but are their cheaper options? What do you guys recommend?

What is she doing?! 😭

Also, I know i need to fill her enclosure with more substrate, it's pretty much the first thing on my to do list when I get home on Friday but like... pray for me because my girls spicy and she is NOT gonna be happy about getting taken out just because mom didn't fill her enclosure enough to begin with.

Help! Enclosure Help for my anxious T!

This is Binxy, my b. Emilia. I’ve had her for about 6 months and have many other T’s as well. Every time I open her enclosure or barely touch it, she freaks out and runs circles. I realize it looks like she has a ton of moss, but all of that was tucked behind the coconut, and she redecorated it to the front of the coconut. I feel terrible because she has now dug a spot in the corner of the enclosure. She moved the water dish out of that corner and dug. My question is: Is the enclosure too dry? Does she need a different hide? (I never see her in her coconut anymore). Does she want to burrow (can get an enclosure with a lot more substrate). Thanks for any advice/consideration!

For reference this enclosure currently houses my B. Hamorii, Queso. Personally i like the sliding lid but it constantly leaks anytime I fill the water dish. I really want to like it but due to that one issue im seriously considering buying tarantula cribs or sterilite containers for all my inverts.

Also I just dont like how the air holes look. Make it friggin linear instead of a giant, fuck off, circle in the middle of the wall

Help! Is my T in premolt?

Post image
• Upvotes

Juvenile GBB. I've read that a tell for premolt is when the bald patch on the abdomen goes from pink to black, but I'm not really sure how black it needs to be. Does this look like premolt? I've had him/her about 1.5 months and haven't experienced a molt yet. He rejected a cricket today, which he also has not done before.
