Hey folks,

Curious if there's any secondary teachers who have any general advice to share on what it is like working in Tassie.

I don't imagine it to be too different in terms of the wide variety of kids re: behaviour and that, but what's the general vibe like in Tas?

Is there much work for casuals/are casuals in demand?

Do you find theres subject areas more in demand? Thinking of retraining for TAS (hah) / woodwork.

Any perspective is of value, sorry my questions are relatively vague.

This is my sisters childhood best friend/stuffed toy. During moving houses she sadly misplaced him, a year later and we can still not find him.
Some information that may help-
-He was purchased sometime between 2002-2008ish
-His name was Harry but I’m not sure if that was just the name given to him by my sister
-We live on the north west coast of Tasmania, though he could’ve been bought on the mainland

We're thinking of coming to Tassie during the winter (June), bringing our own car across on the Spirit of Tasmania. Honestly, do you think we'll have problems getting around to places like Cradle Mtn, Port Arthur, Freycinet Peninsula etc? I think the west coast might be a bit rugged for winter travelling. Would June be awful or should we put it off until September?

Thinking of moving to Tas from Adelaide for the cooler weather year round, I am a Traffic Controller and was wondering how good work is around Tas? ^v^

I signed a lease with a housemate which ends in January 2027. This person has now moved out and is refusing to pay rent and currently owes me $1500, and by the time the lease is up and if he still hasn't paid me will owe me roughly $5000.

If this happens I'll be taking him to small claims court.

Has anyone been in a similar position and been able to recoup their money back from a housemate through the courts?

If he doesn't pay would this go on his credit file?

How do I Start the process? And if the courts determine he hasn't been paying is he then legally obliged to give me my money back?

No I don't want advice on finding another housemate or not signing a lease with a friend in future

Hi all. My partner and I are looking to relocate to another state currently and Tasmania has been on our list for a long while now. We are currently located in Brisbane.

Dogs: We have 2 dogs, 30kg+ each and think coats. The cooler weather would also be great for them. Our biggest fear is being dog friendly. This goes for city walks, cafes, breweries, etc. Our biggest concern is nature walks / hikes. I know Tasmania is filled with loads of National Parks which are not dog friendly, but curious if there are any other dog friendly hikes / treks within the state / area?

Any specific city / towns more or less dog friendly? Any multi-day treks?

I’m 22m, black from the UK and i’m wondering what Tasmania’s like. Im considering visiting Hobart during December and I’m drawn to the nice hills, nice scenery and wildlife that Tasmania has to offer. My bad for bringing ethnicity into this but do you reckon that Tasmania is a good area for non-white people? Like are the locals calm and with a nice vibe or could there be a bit of prejudice or racism? I’m genuinely just curious on this as it’s something I’d like to know before travelling there. It seems like a genuinely wonderful place to be though and bad people are technically everywhere. So even if theres bad in tasmania i wouldn’t label the whole island like that if you get what i mean. So im looking forward to it regardless. Just my two cents.

Hiiii. Are those stories about the ghosts in the old asylums and Grover of Richmond Bridge and the strange orbs that follow people on the western side actually real? I'm an incoming international student and just happened to read about those things. ( really into paranormal stuff). Some report seeing UFOs over the cradle mountains as well. Has anyone encountered any of these things? ​Or are they just stuff people say to scare other people ?

Hi! I'm a Geology major and considering UTAS (Sandy bay) ( Plus I love the island and it's atmosphere). I'm from Sri Lanka. Just that, some friends of mine who are already in hobart were telling me that the native Tasmanians are quite racist and I should keep my mouth shut and not talk if I want to avoid trouble ( I feel it's an exaggeration?). They also mentioned that Tassie kids don't even talk with the international students and it's better if I do the same. Personally though, I'm very outgoing and bubbly, so I'm the kind that would be happy to join hikes and camping and fishing and stuff, even with the locals.

Is these things really true? Is it like, really REALLY bad? Any comments on this would be really helpful. Cheers!

My partner and I are planning to move from melb to tas. We need to transport one car and our stuffs. Unfortunately, we cannot take the spirit of tasmania because it’s fully booked til 22nd of November and we can’t afford to wait that long due to my upcoming work commencement.

For those who have moved interstate from melb to tas, what transport companies or services would u recommend? and if possible car transport along with some of our stuff.
