If you got accepted between October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027 you have until May 1, 2027 to accept your offer as per here.

The need to accept within 14 days refers to offers made after August 1, 2027.

Miscellaneous Avoid Unitii PM! Rental Company Warning for Students! U of A Board member involved!

I'm posting this to flag to any students to avoid Unitii PM managed rentals/buildings. Avoid them like the plague. They may be the new Boardwalk if not worse. In this case though, a member of the Faculty of Business' Advisory Board in Real Estate, is completely taking advantage of students and not abiding by law: Kevin McKee.

Things have gotten completely dangerous and illegal over at our building, and because the RTDRS has a months-long backlog, tenants are trapped. The community needs to know what local developer Pangman Development Corporation (owned by Kevin McKee) and Unitii PM are putting people through.

Here is a breakdown of what’s happening right now:

  • The Only Elevator Has Been Broken Since July 12: Multiple mobility-impaired residents on multiple upper floors are literally trapped in their suites (with some hobbling down the stairs only a handful of times since), or forced to risk their safety in the stairs daily. Management lied and said parts were ordered in August. Staff were later caught admitting that no parts were ever ordered because the owner (Pangman) refused to pay the insurance deductible. When vulnerable tenants ask for help, management ghosts them. At one point, management literally emailed all tenant telling them they were “sending good vibes.”
  • Unlawful Entry & Privacy Violations: Tenants trying to renew leases are being totally ignored. Instead of sending paperwork, the property manager has repeatedly shown up completely unannounced, unlocked unit doors, and walked in on tenants who were naked, showering, or changing.
  • No Mail for Months: Canada Post completely cut off mail delivery to all 40+ units after a mailbox break-in on July 12. Canada Post confirmed to tenants that Unitii botched the repair protocol by lying and saying the boxes were just "left open" instead of structurally broken. This dragged on for months, meaning people didn't get critical mail (including mail-in ballots for voting). Tenants had to chase down mail carriers themselves to finally get it sorted, as well as call Canada Post multiple times to try to coordinate a fix.
  • Electronic Lockouts: The electronic fob system keeps failing, locking tenants out of the building and parkade in the dead of night or early morning. Management promised manual key overrides at least 6 months ago and has done nothing.
  • Parkade Flooding & Structural Failure: Towards the end of the recent floods, drainage and runoff backups were flooding the parkade, solely due to a blown pipe in the parkade. Management promised a 24-hour fix, and event went as far as gaslighting residents that it WAS fixed. Then went radio silent for weeks while tenants' personal property suffered severe water damage, and the elevator filled with water the next day, leading to it dripping down the shaft and breaking down.
  • Security & Stolen Property: The building is marketed as secure, but the parkade and bike rooms have been broken into on multiple occasions. Management flatly refuses to review or share CCTV footage with the victims or EPS to cover their own tracks.
  • The Moving Issue : All move-ins and move-outs are happening via multi-story stairwells. People are facing thousands of dollars in surprise moving labour costs. The stairwells are now damaged with trim falling off and exposed nails everywhere from furniture hitting the walls.

This is a high-profile Edmonton developer raking in full corporate rents while leaving 40+ units of people - students, and low-income residents - to survive in a structurally failing, hazardous environment. Kevin is a member of the advisory board for the faculty of business for real estate, yet clearly does not care about the lives of students, especially those with disabilities. Unitii PM’s Vice President has tried to claim they aren't at fault because they "aren't the landlord," completely ignoring the Residential Tenancies Act, which states any management company acting on behalf of an owner, is essentially, the landlord.

Warning any and all students to avoid this company as much as possible when renting from landlords!

Rants Stop arguing with the prof!!

In my history class, there are a couple people who try to debate/correct the professor and end up being wrong every single time. Either that, or its someone just talking in an attempt to show how smart they are. I can tell my prof tries to shut it down or redirect the conversation but some of these people just go on and on!!! Why attend class just to argue with someone who has a PhD, and waste the rest of the students time?

Rants Mean Professor - What to do

This is more so a rant, but it's also a question. I just don't know what to do. I have this professor at CSJ and I think she's an amazing lecturer but for some reason she has it out for me. I used to always ask her questions after class ends until one day she told me to book an appointment with her so we could discuss it more in depth. I was unable to do so that same week so I emailed her the following week asking if she had any availability. She seemed not pleased by the fact that I contacted her so late and I apologized for it, telling her I just didn't have the time and I didn't want to waste her time over a simple question when I could collect more questions to discuss with her about. Fast forward to the day of our meeting, she was so mean! She didnt seem interested at all in any of the questions I had, telling me "oh, you should've learnt this from highschool" or "oh, if you actually paid attention in class then you wouldn't be asking me these questions". At one point, she even criticized my French! I explained that it wasn't my first language and I am insecure about it, that also being the reason I don't participate a lot in class (her classes are usually heavy with participation and she always picks people to answer questions, more on that later). I told her I graduated high school school like 3 years ago and so my french is a little rusty speaking wise, and I'm more so taking her class to improve my french. Heck, English isn't even my first language! Other than that, I have no problem understanding her in class. She also kept criticizing my accent as I was struggling to pronounce a word, even though I was LITERALLY pointing at it. Her exact words were "Its impossible to understand you, are you sure you know how to speak French?". After that, she straight up told me this class was not for me. Idk it just made me feel so dumb and small and I was just upset because I thought she was super kind. She ended the appointment early saying this could've been an email and how professors are really busy people and there were a line of other students who had genuine questions who could've been here. I just apologized before I left and I literally hid in the toilets after that because I was bawling my eyes out. After that, she sent me an email for French resources to apparently improve it.

After that, I kept showing up to class mostly because of active participation and though she doesnt usually pick on me after I told her I'm uncomfortable answering questions, she still picks on me occasionally. One time she asked me a question and I said I didnt know the answer, she straight up said in front of everyone "so if you don't know the answer, whats stopping you from asking a question?". Maybe it wasn't a big deal, but I just thought it was humiliating.

Fast forward to our first midterm, she has it so we could only see our tests after booking an appointment with her. The first thing she said to me wasn't a hi or a hello, it was "have you consulted those resources I gave you?" I told her I didn't because I didn't think I needed it. I got an 82% on the midterm. On the midterm there were some open-ended questions and she straight up told me my sentences didn't make sense even if I got almost full points on all of them?? She told me mosr of my words were unintelligible and told me some words were missing accents on it, blah blah blah. I apologized and told her it was probably due to me writing fast. She also said "out of 5 TAs that corrected the papers, not one of them understood what you were trying to convey, you're lucky you got a good grade. Congratulations." Hello??? Then she just let me skim over the questions in silence, but even then I had asked her two questions about stuff I got wrong, not once was she helpful, she was saying things like "it was in the PowerPoint, did you even read through it?", "it was on the revision test" or "It's not my fault that your french comprehension is developed enough to understand the question". She was SO passive aggressive the entire time, at one point she even said "well, thats what all the researchers seem to agree on, if you have a problem with their consensus, how about you go contact them?". I just sat there and nodded until I had to go. But its just so exhausting. She isn't interfering with my life directly, but I'm afraid to ask her questions and sit with her alone one on one. I asked other people in my class if they had any similar experiences with her and they also say that she might be a bit intimidating, but she's overall super kind with them. So why me?!?! I'm convinced I probably did something terrible to her in a past life or something.

Do you guys think I should bring this up to someone or is it not that serious? And even if I did, what would change? I'm just looking for input if anyone has had a similar experience with professors like these because literally all the other professors in my other courses are some of the sweetest people in the world and are actually super patient if you come up to them after class or at their office hours. She's the first AND hopefully last one. I thought I'd avoid professors like that but her RMF profile is generally positive with a 3.7/5. Sorry for the long rant!!

I haven’t heard anything about this Q&A until today, I didn’t even realize we had a conservative students association. How are we expecting this to go, especially right after the referendum? Are any of you planning on attending this?

Lost and Found Help me find my dinosaur please

Post image
27 Upvotes

For about a week I haven't been able to find my small red plastic dinosaur. I'm 95% sure I lost him in CCIS L2-200 and maybe someone in the class after me picked him up. Unfortunately I don't have any super clear pictures, but he's a red dimetrodon around 2 inches long, and he was a gift from a friend so I feel really bad for losing him. If anyone has their class in CCIS L2-200 MWF at 2, or if anyone thinks they could help, can you help me find him please?

Admissions MSc in Urban and Regional Planning entrance GPA

• Upvotes

Hello everybody!

I have applied to the MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (2-year stream). I have a bachelors in planning from a university in another province with an accredited program, and an L2 GPA sitting around 3.3-3.4, not stellar for super competitive programs but not terrible either. I have professional experience doing work related to non-academic research, program evaluation, report writing with policy recommendations, etc. I also have 2 good professors who provided letters of reference for me. I also completed a summer Planning internship.

I've been scouring the internet to try to figure out just how competitive this program is, what the average L2 GPA is for people who have been admitted, or anyone's experience being admitted with a GPA similar to mine... to no avail!

for additional context...in 2013 I enrolled in 2 semesters at this same university. Due to being very young and personal circumstances, I moved to another province, worked in the trades, and ended up coming back to my home province after about 3 years. At the time, due to the stress and overwhelm of my personal circumstances, I did not unenroll properly from these 2 semesters and "failed" all of these courses. This university did not take these old grades off my record, so when I went back to get my bachelors in planning nearly a decade later, I started the program with a 0.2 GPA...and now have a GPA sitting around 3.3. Literally started from the bottom haha. My cGPA is lower than what it would be if I didn't have these old grades on my record, even though I had to re take them to fix my GPA.

Can anyone relate to my journey? or speak to admissions or how competitive this program is?

Rants Transferring to MacEwan

Hi everyone! I'm currently a student at the University of Alberta in Open Studies, and I've been seriously considering transferring to MacEwan. I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has made the switch or has experience at either university.

Honestly, I've been really unhappy at UofA. I've struggled a lot with loneliness and finding a sense of belonging here, and it's gotten to the point where I'm questioning whether staying is the right decision for me.

It's also starting to affect my academics. When I'm feeling sad and isolated, I find it so much harder to focus on studying and stay motivated. It's difficult to put my best effort into school when I'm unhappy with my life outside the classroom, and I'm worried that staying in an environment where I feel this way will continue to affect my academic performance.

I'm currently in Open Studies, so I'm also trying to figure out what my next steps should be academically. I'm interested in pursuing Psychology, and I'd want to make sure that transferring wouldn't negatively affect my ability to get into a degree program or pursue my future career goals.

I've been considering MacEwan because I'm wondering whether a smaller university environment might feel more welcoming and make it easier to meet people and build friendships. I know transferring wouldn't magically fix everything, but I can't help wondering whether I'd have a better university experience somewhere else.

I'd also appreciate hearing from people who stayed at UofA despite being unhappy. Did things eventually get better, or do you wish you'd transferred sooner?

I'm not expecting another university to solve all my problems, but I also don't want to spend the rest of my undergraduate experience feeling miserable and isolated while watching my academics suffer because of it.

I'd really appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences. Thank you!

Academics Engg personal projects

I’ve heard that personal projects are supposed to be more important than gpa when finding internships
So I was wondering as a first year student with a mid gpa who plans on going into mechanical engg if I should start now, and if I do how do I start? Do I do this stuff in my free time? And how do I even get the tools and equipment?

Also is there anything I should do over winter break so I I’m not caught off guard by second semester like I was this semester

Question Math 214 Midterm Help

For those who took it in the recent past, does it have a multiple choice section? The sample only has written questions but it seems too short for the time limit.
