Upcycling Work in Progress Giving packaging a second life

Post image

I came across these zipper bags at a flea market in Berlin and fell in love with this idea of reusing packaging trash from chocolates, caffee or other products.

Inspired by this idea I started making them myself.

Maybe I can make some more over the winter and start selling them myself at the next flea market season. That way I could support a wunderful and important project run by friends of mine in Romania.

Completed Upcycling Project So, I’ve turned another flea-market find... into a loft-style desk lamp, as usual.

I had to redo all the wiring and discard the rotor and armature winding. On the bright side, it provided a perfect fit for an E27 socket, which I equipped with an Edison-style incandescent bulb that casts a warm, soft glow.

All second hand materials (except some of the interfacing). It's similar to the Baggu purse. The strap and hooks are from a torn messenger bag. Added a koi applique (small scraps from other projects) for some zazz. Passed cat inspection.

Ideas Needed! Ideas for pet litter/food bags

Post image

I've got 2 cats and 2 dogs. I keep going through food bags, and I've started ordering bags of litter to refill a couple of the usual jugs I've kept since the bags are less plastic waste. Any ideas on ways to repurpose them?

Ideas Needed! I have 1 million steel flange bolts & nuts. What would you upcycle them into?

My family runs a steel fabrication shop. Years ago we ended up with about 1 million M10x90 grade 8.8 flange bolts with matching flange nuts, an odd size nobody needs in bulk. I’d rather turn them into something people actually want than scrap them. We have a full workshop (welding, cutting, drilling) and time. Toys, desk objects, decor, tools, art… anything goes. I thought of a fidget spinner but can’t see how to make it appealing. What would you make?

Ideas Needed! Stained khakis trousers. Any suggestions on how to upcycle or repair them?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Unfortunately, some acid spilled on a pair of men's khaki trousers (98% cotton, 2% elastane), leaving a permanent reddish spot that won’t wash out. Instead of tossing them, I'd love to upcycle them or give them a new life. Since the stain is located on the lower leg, I was considering shortening them into shorts.
Do you have any other creative repair, mending, or alteration ideas?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! 😄

Ideas Needed! Looking for project ideas for a drawstring bag

I work in a sector that gives me a lot of freebies, and I've got a lot of drawstring bags and want to convert them into something different.

I don't really have a use for the bags but I like the designs and memories that are connected to the bags.

Any ideas?

Ideas Needed! What can I do with an old pair of shoes?

I have an old pair of Nike Dunk hi tops. They have sentimental value to me but are at the end of their life. I would donate them if they could provide use to the next person but the sole has become brittle and will fall apart on the wearer. Hoping i could upcycle the upper portion to something but can’t think of anything. This is just a shot in the dark and any suggestions are appreciated. TYIA.

Ideas Needed! Ideas for this lamp base please

Post image

Id like to upcycle the base of this lamp, keeping the metal/ chrome as is.

Id like it to look like its ceramic if possible.

Its a glass with a thin layer of plaster with small piece of a reflective material mosaiced.

It looks discoloured and shabby and i would love to freshen it up somehow ... any ideas??

I shared a few of these earlier when they were still early concepts. Because of all the kind words and encouragement- here is an update.

(Littlefoot, candy mountain unicorn, pikachu, Rex.)

I teach English and science to Dari and Farsi speakers. I made these from classroom rubbish ت

Already have one in the fridge, and one more in the cabinet. Vases used to be $1 at the dollar store, but no more, so I get my $1 vases, along with discounted vinegar for my salads 😸

Found these large heavy-duty plastic culvert type things at an estate sale. Paid $4 each. I cut them in half and gave them a fresh coat of paint. Now I have 4 fairly large sized planters ready for some plants!

Ideas Needed! Lamp makeover

This lamp used to have a black lampshade which made a horrible depressing light, so I ripped it off and stuck this rose gold fruit bowl on top. I'd love some suggestions how to turn it into a lampshade please?

Please don't judge my messy bench top lol 😂

Ideas Needed! Unusual request - how to upcycle favorite bit of glass

Thumbnail

I have a weird one, friends!

I found this old bit of glass while beach-combing. I believe it was once a bottle-stopper, from an apothecary. I love the way it feels in my hand. Oddly, it has smooth, flat edges on the neck and my hand naturally holds it as if it were a writing instrument or a paint brush. (It kind of reminds me of those bulbous, fat crayons for toddlers, if you've ever seen those).

I would love to somehow turn this bit of glass into a writing instrument, but I don't know if that's even possible. I wish the tip were a pen, pencil, crayon, marker, or paintbrush. Does anyone know of any way to do this? If I could even find a pen, pencil, or marker that's short enough, how would I attach it to this rounded piece of glass? A glue gun or something?? I know that to most people, this project idea seems silly and like more trouble than it's worth, but for some reason I'm just obsessed with the idea right now. I would appreciate any advice!
