Discussion Any big YouTubers you know of who released long-forgotten videos before they got popular which would probably sink their careers if they'd been uploaded nowadays?

To bring up an example (which I sort of made this post just to rant about), The Harry Gold Show, a popular art and animation YTer with nearly 200k subs who's best known for his "Fixing Style Swaps" videos and his dissections of art styles and attempted art style replications in modern pop culture, made a video in late 2022 prior to having even 20k subs titled "I Fixed The World's Worst Graffiti". It only has around 56k views, which pales in comparison to his newer videos generally getting hundreds of thousands of views apiece, with all but one of his videos released since this one being at least 30k views higher.

Aside from the video being soaked in what feels like class contempt as he dismisses street art as mere criminal activity that does nothing but damage property and is no more artistically valuable than crude graffiti tagging, he cracks a handful of quips throughout the video (in particular, those related to the late rapper Tupac) that bear an eyebrow-raising resemblance to racist dogwhistles. In particular, the ones that seemed to catch the most commenters' attention:

(2:05) Now you might be thinking that this drawing of Tupac leaves, perhaps, a little to be desired. But I say with a fresh coat of paint and a little judicious shading, we'll have ourselves an excellent tribute to the man that, uh... umm... well, actually, I couldn't name any Tupac "music". Controversial as it may be, I personally prefer songs that contain, y'know... singing.

Perhaps somewhat notably, right after the above-mentioned quip, he comes across a Kurt Cobain mural and treats it much more respectfully, saying "God rest his soul" and leaving the painting untouched before moving on.

(5:30) How about this valiant attempt at a couple of beloved cartoon characters? It just needs a little more work if we really want to capture the essence of these Simpsons mainstays. Oh, and don't worry; we got an Indian guy to paint Apu, so we've saved you the time of making a whole documentary dedicated to cancelling it.

(7:14) Here's another classic, big-brain shower thought from some spray-can Socrates. "Migration is not a crime." How true! It's so true, in fact, that there is literally no one contesting it! There may well be people who want this to change, but this is not actually in dispute. What I can only imagine our inner-city Aristotle here is trying to make a statement about is undocumented migrants. But illegal immigration kinda is a crime... that's why it's called that.

And then, perhaps the worst one in the whole video:

(7:48) Ah, Tupac again! One more, and we'll have a "Sixpac"! He sure is popular with talentless crooks... I wonder why that would be?

Any thoughts on this particular video and the comments made within? And are there any examples you know of yourselves that haven't yet affected or haven't significantly affected the YouTuber(s) responsible?

Callout Starkilla commits to a tweet storm attacking former friends, admitting to not applying his values for money, deletes posts and copyright strikes some posts in response

Hey, I did get approval from a mod before posting this, was hoping for a 2nd, but given the escalation of the situation it pretty much belongs here.

Basically, with the destruction of his job (and a near guarantee he won't be getting one in the future due to what his job was), he went around crashing out on Twitter. And he proceeded to:

Attack his former friends, admitted to supporting them being harassed and sued behind the scenes, admit to supporting genocidal takes for MONEY. Admitted to supporting E's behavior for MONEY.

This obviously, wasn't taken well by any sane individuals. It's a reveal of how little you value your self worth and the lives around you, and how much you're willing to sacrifice for a minor gain in wealth (that was fleeting at best).

Starkilla didn't take this sitting down though! He decided he wants to delete his tweets and copyright strike people talking about it. Unfortunately, the internet is forever, and I was keeping an eye on him for a different reason!

And if he would like to go to court in regards to copyright law, I would encourage him to check if he even owns the copyright to his tweets, and then look at fair use and SLAPP laws after...
