Discussion User/Post Flairs

When you join the community, you are asked to choose a user flair. You are also expected to tag vocal rating submissions with a post flair. The three main levels are “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced”. These descriptors are vague, and they may be difficult to assign to oneself. For this reason, the mods have decided to post this breakdown to help people decide what level they are at.

If you:
- Have been talking vocal lessons for less than a year
-Have never or barely been vocally trained
-Have never been paid to sing
-Cannot sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Do not know how to sing with proper breath support and physical technique
-Are not confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others

Then you might be a “Beginner”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for more than a year
-Have had some or a lot of vocal training
-Have never been paid to sing or paid sometimes
-Are confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others for no charge
-Can sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Can sing with proper breath support and vocal technique

Then you might be an “Intermediate”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for multiple years
-Are extensively vocally trained
-Have been paid to sing multiple times or sing professionally
-Are confident enough in your skill to charge others to hear you sing
-Can sing notes with perfect accuracy after hearing them
-Can sing with excellent breath support and near perfect technique

Then you might be “Advanced”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair

We understand that you may have some overlap with the categories. It is our suggestion that if even one of the traits of a lower level applies to you, then you should consider using that as your flair.

Please comment with your suggestions for how to differentiate more accurately. We would love the community’s input on what should qualify as a beginner, intermediate, and advanced singer. This post may be updated in the future with these suggestions.

Feedback - Intermediate I need opinions. I feel so insecure about how I look while singing.

Is this good to post even tho it's lip synced (it's my voice im the one singing but it's pre recorded becuz honestly I cant sing full covers real time with zero errors while looking impeccable on camera lol) while singing this in real time I was obviously very haggard looking, so I decided to just lip sync it while decent looking but I think yeah it's obvious it's lip synced... Does that look terrible. Sht my posture is soooo bad. My background look shabby. Im so scared to post this in my real life social media where all my friends and family would see. Sorry if this might look like im phishing for compliments but I just need reassurance that im not embarrassing myself nfkdjdks

Feedback - Beginner Singing in my kitchen (amateur)

Guyss, I’ve never shared my voice before but I’ve been genuinely curious to know if it’s bad or cringe or what it sounds like to others. I’m by no means a professional lol but honest thought are invited!

Feedback - Beginner Rate My Singing! (One Direction – One Thing)

I covered “One Thing” by One Direction. I’m singing softly because I’m in public. I got an audition for a boyband, and someone in the music industry told me to work on my vocals. What can I improve, how do I keep this voice when singing louder, and how do I learn to sing properly?

Feedback - Beginner Experimenting with Rasp/Distortion on Don’t Cry by GnR

Does this sound at all sustainable, and how/where could I improve vs what should I keep (if anything)? Some of the higher notes were a little flat and too shrouded in distortion to come out clean and you’ll probably notice I lightened my voice to hit the high note.

Feedback - Beginner What do you think about my voice?

I know I still have a lot to work on, but I just want to know what you think about my voice. Is it boring or could I do something with it?
(please ignore my guitar playing, I know I messed up the rythm)

Feedback - Intermediate Another clip from me…

Since people were so kind about my singing and playing on the last one, I did this today— original song this time.

A few people mentioned on my last clip that I’d gone into head-voice type register for one note and then did the same note in a distorted voice a moment later… so I put more head register into a section of this to give an idea of what it sounds like for me.

I feel like I’m putting on a silly voice by doing it and I tend to avoid using it for more than a word here and there, but I’d like to hear what other folks think about it.

I put a bit more of my guitar playing in this one, too, and actually used a mic, not just my phone!

Thank you everyone, the last post really boosted my confidence.

Feedback - Intermediate Long time reviewer, new poster. Singing “La Llorona”. Need some help on the ascents.

Thanks for listening! Been enjoying singing for a long time but miss performing my songs. Trying to refine this sound and need some better earballs on it. This is only my first take, so keep that in mind. :)
