Unsolved How would you model curled, dried tea leaves?

Post image

I need a few individual dried tea leaves for a short animation in C4D/Octane. Most assets I’ve found are scans of entire piles. Would you start with a flat leaf mesh and fold/twist it? Any workflow tips or individual leaf assets would be appreciated!

Question Help! How to use spring constraints to rig a cable

I have been trying to use this method to rig a cable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6DsqMg8gh8&list=PLX9eb2y_Ln-k&index=10 - creating nulls from a reference spline, connecting them with a spring constraint, and then animating by parenting the start and end nulls to other objects in the scene.

My problem is that once constrained, the nulls never start in their original position. I have tweaked the gravity, length, stiffness values a lot, and I still have trouble. Even when resetting the timeline over and over, they never settle into place - I can't understand what is making them so unwieldy.

In the video it works without any unpredictable behaviour like this - I am working to a very different scene scale, but I've tried to take this into account by using dramatically different values and nothing stops this 'flying around'!

When I change the 'length' value from the default value created relative to the target, they are pulled taut into a straight line - which solves the flying around - but I really need them to be in their original curved position, not straight.

Any tips much appreciated!!

P.S. As far as I know, I need to use this method instead of it: a cloth sim doesn't have enough control and will become heavy, as this scene will eventually have up to a hundred animated cables. I did make a successful rig without the spring constraint, but if I can get this to work it would really help to create the natural movement that I need without laborious keyframing.

[WTB] Cinema 4D Perpetual License (R23 / R24 / R25) – Paying $600–$1200 + I Cover Maxon Transfer Fee

Hi everyone,

I am looking to purchase a legitimate Cinema 4D perpetual (commercial) license, specifically version R23, R24, or R25.

### Offer & Budget:

* **Purchase Price:** $600 – $1,200 USD (depending on the version and details).

* **Transfer Fee:** I will cover the official Maxon transfer fee ($200 / €175) myself on top of the purchase price.

* **Payment Method:** PayPal Goods & Services (I am happy to cover the transaction fee).

---

### Requirements for the License:

To ensure a smooth and legitimate transaction via Maxon:

  1. **Commercial Perpetual License only:** No NFR (Not For Resale), Student/Educational, or Trial licenses.

  2. **Transferable Status:** The license must not have been previously used as an upgrade trade-in path toward an active Maxon One / C4D subscription (which voids the perpetual transfer eligibility).

  3. **Official Maxon Verification:** Before any payment, the seller must contact Maxon Support to verify and confirm in writing that this specific license is 100% eligible for official license transfer to a new MyMaxon account.

---

### Process:

  1. Seller opens a support ticket with Maxon to confirm transfer eligibility.

  2. Once Maxon confirms, we agree on the price.

  3. Payment sent via PayPal Goods & Services.

  4. Seller submits the official transfer request through Maxon to migrate the license to my MyMaxon email.

If you have an idle perpetual license and are looking to cash out, please send me a PM with your version and asking price. Scammers will be reported, serious sellers only.

Thank you!

RS Procedural Fur Bug with Dynamics/Cloth objects

Hello guys, I'm having an issue with the new RS Procedural Fur when using it on an object simulated with Cloth, for example, or even on an object with a Displacer and animated noise.

The Fur seems to generate new variations from frame to frame instead of maintaining consistency throughout the animation, resulting in a glitchy, flickering appearance.

I've tried numerous approaches to fix this, including caching, Alembic, Connect, Remesh, Volume Builder, and so on, but nothing seems to help.

When I disable Cloth and only animate the object's parameters, such as position and rotation, the issue doesn't occur. I've also tried replacing it with the native Hair system, which works perfectly fine.

I'd like to know whether this is a bug or if the RS Procedural Fur is simply not designed to work with dynamics.

Thanks!

Solicitation Free | C4D Icon Browser

Decided to start offloading my 12 years of experience and a ton of scripts I wrote over the years.

So this is the first "episode" of ADVANCED SHIfT written 100% with no AI

To me, this solves the annoying UX of a Command Manager to look up icons for structure tidying, UserData build and especially for plugins.

This script's first iteration travels all my C4D installs since R23, but to share with people, I had to make some updates.

Features

  • Browse icons registered in the current C4D session, including third-party plugins.
  • Search by name or ID
  • Filter icons by category
  • Adjust icon preview sizes
  • Click to copy an icon ID
  • Drag and drop icons
  • Drop an object into the browser to find its icon ID

Download on GitHub

GitHub release

It's free, but consider following my socials xD
Instagram | Twitter

P.S. Don’t ask me why drag and drop adds a .png at the end 🫠
This is the only way to make Drag n drop work with string elements I found

Asset browser is missing one of the Rocket Lasso 'Partition Modifier' scenes

Post image
6 Upvotes

Chris Schmidt's Partition modifier Cineversity tutorial features a Scene setup that doesn't appear for me in the asset browser – it's a group of six setups, the one on the left – I'm on a Maxon One sub so I'm guessing it might just have been removed for some reason.
If someone can briefly explain how to create the second of those setups, the one that generates a grid of spherical elements, I'd love to know how to get there!

Just when I thought faster node operations were a standard feature, it turned out to be a plugin...

I was celebrating all by myself, thinking that—three years, no, five years late—a feature that makes node manipulation easier had finally been included as standard. That’s because the video was uploaded to MAXON’s YouTube channel yesterday. Here’s the attached video.

But when I took a closer look at the title and description, I realized it was actually a paid third-party plugin… and it’s not cheap.

Yet in Blender, this kind of feature has been around for ages.

I’m really disappointed every single time.

I've started to get fed up with having to keep paying MAXON while I work on my projects.

It made me rethink the point of using this software in this day and age.

Hi guys. I've downloaded some plugins from GSG but it seem they dont work on new versions. Anybode have the same issue or anybody know how to fix it?

I get some studio preset from light kit browser and it says it is for Redshift, but it so dark and it seems that lights dont emit anything (only reflects on spheres), but all scene is dark except reflections. BUT when i pick standart renderer on gsg browser it seems normal on my rs renderview

my GI trace depth set to 8 and combined to 16

Question Looking for advice on a muscle simulation tool for Cinema 4D

I’m prototyping a muscle tool for Cinema 4D and could use some advice. The goal is believable, reasonably fast deformation, not medical accuracy.

Our current custom solver uses:

  • Linear tetrahedral FEM-style discretization: 525 nodes / 1,920 tets for one simplified biceps belly.
  • Custom strain, shear, volume-preservation and fiber-length energies. Activation changes the preferred fiber length. It’s not a calibrated tissue or Hill-type muscle model.
  • Implicit time stepping solved with exact-Hessian trust-region Newton and truncated conjugate gradients.
  • Python/Numba, currently single-threaded CPU. A separate higher-resolution surface follows the simulated tets.

The problem: six seconds of motion takes roughly 30.7 minutes, using 12 substeps per frame at 30 fps. Profiling found 68% of the bake goes into Python Decimal energy-change checks, triggered on every solver proposal. Even removing that cost entirely would leave about 10 minutes.

Attachments are prescribed, the tendon isn’t physically solved, and there’s no collision handling yet. Numerical checks pass, but the visual result still isn’t convincing.

Would you simplify this into a coarse XPBD approach for authoring, or improve the existing solver first? What would you prioritize for speed and believable muscle behavior?

Trying to get a Maxon Student License has been a nightmare

I’m a college student currently learning Zbrush for a class, and decided I’d buy the Maxon student license so I could work on my iPad.

This has been a nightmare. First, I kept getting an error saying “Oops, something went wrong!” when starting the verification process. Then I got locked out for 24 hours. (I don’t have a VPN or anything).

24 hours passed, and I tried again. Was able to get to the document uploading screen. Unfortunately, the popup to allow the camera wouldn’t appear, even when I went into my settings and allowed popups and camera access. Had to switch to Google to fix that.

So, I uploaded my documents. Thought I was done. Well, Maxon couldn’t verify me as a student. I tried going through the verification process again and now I’m getting the “Oops, something went wrong!” error again. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get locked out. Again.

I just want to be able to work on my projects from my iPad 😭 I’ve raised a support ticket, but haven’t gotten a response yet.

UPDATE my school WiFi apparently has similar effects to a VPN, turned it off and suddenly the verification process worked.

Question How can I take this further?

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

I designed a brand/label/bottle/homepage for a spec project, and while I'm overall happy with how this scene came out, it still feels like a 3D render and I'm not quite sure what else I could do to bring it closer to realism. Mostly because I've exhausted all the techniques and advice I've used before and can find elsewhere, which I'll list below.

Normally I wouldn't worry too much about hyperrealism, but for this brand it just looks like it doesn't quite belong when I put it into the web designs alongside real photography. Is another renderer besides Redshift just better suited to hyperrealism? Since I've gotten pretty far with Redshift I've just never thought about leaping into another one, but maybe it's time.

Any advice for realism or just overall design, lighting, and composition would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Details:

  • C4D and Redshift
  • Most models and materials from GSG (Cargo), some from asset browser
  • Bottle topper and label I made from scratch
  • Added subtle imperfections to label and bottle
  • HDRI, Gobo, and subtle rim light behind the bottles left edge
  • No denoising
  • 100mm Camera Lens, Bokeh aperture 8, subtle vignetting
  • RS Render Tags here and there for displacement and rendertime subdiv
  • Caustics enabled on lights and glass elements

where to share scripts and tools?

Not a coder here, and I know the hate for vibe coding at this point and while I get it, I've been able to make some neat scripts to help streamline some stuff. I recently made a python script that helps with a problem in both adobe and maxon apps that's been a pain for years- it scans your apps and will help migrate preferences and settings to new versions without having to do it manually. I know that in cinema you can identify extra plugin folders and such, but not with layouts and shortcut stuff. It jus seems that's stupid for the app to not migrate that stuff as part of the install or at least give an option. You can also pair additional folders that you want to migrate from and to as well for anything else you have setup.

So, ChatGPT enterprise helped me with it. Can I post a zip here or do I need to dive into git to post stuff like this correctly?

Please don't install the latest 621.01 Game Ready Nvidia drivers, has bugs for Octane Render.

Nvidia drivers legit drove me insaaaane today!!

For past 3-4 hours I was figuring out why adding a displacement material on one object is making the other objects disappear, half of my scene was invisible due to this.

I legit tried 6 different octane version, completely deleted all my c4d octane cache etc, and all possible combinations with nodes and what not.

Problem was Nvidia drivers, had to uninstall the latest one, crazy how a freaking driver can cause such a distant glitch.

C4D for iPad , Vaporware ?

has anybody who signed in the beta-tester form on Maxon’s website earlier this year been able to test it, or is it just vaporware at this stage ?

Thank you Maxon for making CAD, especially Inventor import so easy

The new CAD import functionalities seem to be a great workflow enhancement in my daily routine!
For me, this is a very big thing.
The first test with a bigger assembly was a bit annoying as only the textures but no geometry was loaded.
On the second try everything worked as expected. File names, good UVs, hierarchies, and even materials, everything was there.
Great job, thank you Maxon!
