-----Parting Words-----

Your value as a person is NOT decided by whether you get to go to FT or not. There are so, so many more opportunities to serve your nation out there and to find happiness while doing so. OTS, Reserve, Guard, enlisting, joining another service, government contracting, civil service, the list goes on and on.

I truly sympathize with each of you who are about to have your dreams turned upside down. Don't give up! Even if it's not with the Air Force, there are so many opportunities out there to chase. You are capable of great things, and all it takes is a single step in the right direction.

Good luck. God-speed, cadets.

Question Should I just go to OTS?

I’m currently in the ANG and got picked up for a deployment. I don’t qualify for any scholarship so I have to go so that I can earn real GI bill benefits.

I started as a 250 this semester. Good gpa. 98pfa. Engineering major. I will be back for Sp 28 semester.

Commander told me today that we can’t use this semester for EA slot and I’ll have to come back as a 150 and go up for EA slot summer of 29.

Should I just cut my losses and to OTS when I graduate?

Medical Medical question

Has anyone ever had a concussion prior to starting rotc? Has that ever posed as an issue or do they kind of just oversee it? What’s the process for that?

Medical ADHD Waiver and AFROTC timing help

Hello all,

I need some help figuring out the timing of AFROTC and my ADHD medication.

I apologize if if I ask some stupid questions or am missing something obvious, as I am not too knowledgeable on this.

I know that you have to be completely off ADHD meds for 24 months before you can get a medical waiver for the Air Force.

I just stopped my adderal prescription on 10/15/26, and Im hoping that the 24 month waiting period I have to go through will pass WHILE I’m in AFROTC.

I would be starting AFROTC in Fall of 2027.

Since you can do AFROTC for 2 years without any actual military commitment, I’m assuming that the topic of my ADHD medication history or any kind of medical exams won’t even get brought up until Much later in AFROTC. Or is my medical state something that will be verified immediately? If it is, will they let it slide considering that my 24 month period can (hopefully) pass during my time in AFROTC?

If it helps, I only started taking ADHD medication in December of 2024.

I did explain this whole scenario a few days ago to my friend who just graduated from marine boot camp, and he told me that they will likely be more lenient and I’ll be able to get waived with just 6 months or so of being off the medication. I don’t know why he thinks this or if there is even any validity behind it.

I appreciate any insight, thank you

Question Good Midterm Feedback Questions

I'm a squadron commander in charge of 3 flight commanders and I want to make my mid-term feedbacks with them really helpful. What questions have you been asked in feedbacks that really helped you? When I was a flight commander my squadron commander started the meeting asking me how I thought the semester was going and I really liked that strategy for starting so that you can assess how the flight commander is feeling before sharing your thoughts, but any tips on how to structure the meeting well? Thank you!

Question Is applying for HSSP Board 2 cooked?

Question Is it possible to do AFROTC while taking academic classes online?

Long story short, I work evening-night shift, and while I really want to do ROTC I would need some flexibility just to get enough sleep in.

Are there any programs that would allow you to take most or all of your classes online?

Thanks in advance.

Not receiving any CMLA tuition/stipend yet

Reddit - need some advice. My daughter is a 3rd year AFROTC cadet, and received the CMLA at summer camp this past summer. She is now in school, but has not yet received any stipend or tuition money. She is the last cadet at her school to not received any funds.

She has reached out to her cadre, and the NCO that was doing finance was very dismissive, and just left active duty. No other cadre have helped. Meanwhile, she's having to work 30+ hours per week while going to school full time AND traveling to another school for AFROTC...she's just about to break. She's had office calls, with no results at all.

I'm a retired LTC from the Army, so I know the military. The treatment she's receiving is frankly, appalling. But I also don't want to roll into her Det and start throwing furniture...ruining her reputation.

Is it time for a Congressional?

Question Disadvantage going to a T10 school

Hey! I am struggling in my current school and have a question. The curriculum I know for sure is much harder than any normal college. Is going to a top school going to hinder my chances at, for example, becoming a pilot, or is there a boost to going to a top college? Thanks!

Joining Is my plan to join AFROTC as a transfer student and eventually become an airline pilot realistic?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently attending community college in California and planning to transfer to a four-year university in Fall 2027.
My long-term goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. I’m considering joining AFROTC, competing for a pilot slot, completing Air Force pilot training, serving my military commitment, and eventually transitioning to the airlines.
Sacramento State (Detachment 088) is currently my preferred university, although I’m also considering other California universities with AFROTC programs.
I’m trying to evaluate the feasibility of this plan before making major educational and financial commitments.
I have several questions:

As a transfer student, how many years should I expect to spend in AFROTC before commissioning?

How difficult is it to earn a pilot slot, and what can I do now to become more competitive?

How important is the detachment I choose?

Does attending a smaller or larger detachment affect pilot selection opportunities?

Are there common obstacles for older transfer students, particularly regarding age requirements and commissioning timelines?

For someone whose ultimate goal is to become an airline pilot, would you recommend the AFROTC route over civilian flight training?

If you followed a similar path, what would you do differently?
I’m not looking for guarantees. I’d especially appreciate feedback from current or former AFROTC cadets, cadre members, military pilots, and people who transitioned from military aviation to the airlines.
Thanks for any advice or firsthand experiences.

Question Active Duty While Up For PSP

Not sure if anyone has any insight to this, it’s a pretty unique situation. Currently a cadet and active duty enlisted on last 5 months of contract and on skillbridge/ terminal leave till end of March.
I know guard and reserve cadets must have a conditional release on file or a waiver when they go up for PSP. In my case, I will still be active duty and not have my DD214 just yet when close out date comes so I’m not sure if I’d technically also need a release form or waiver.
Cadre obviously know and haven’t said anything, but is this gonna cause any issues come PSP time?

Question 3 vs 4 years in afrotc

As a graduate student interested in completing AFROTC on a three-year timeline, how much of a disadvantage would I be compared with cadets following the traditional four-year program? Are there any subjects or skills I could study or practice independently before starting to help me prepare?

Question Airforce Senior airman/E-4 to Army officer is it worth it? WOFT? AFROTC?

Im thinking about commissioning through army ROTC once my contract is done. in a 2-year program they have if you have the allotted credits taken, which is 55 credits.

Ive also heard of WOFT “street to seat”

Or possibly taking AFROTC route after my contract is done
Both task would get done after my contract is done just looking for some feedback

Army is faster just 2 years due to my credits already had

AFROTC I know ill be able to skip 100 year not so sure about 200.

June 2028 is my EOS 🫡.

appreciative of any insight

GOD BLESS
