Image How are we all toilet training our dachshund puppies?
My girl is 13 weeks old, I have had her for 3.5 weeks now and at the beginning she had a puppy pad toilet area because of our living situation. - I live at home with my mum and her two adult dogs (Shih Tzu males) who haven’t gotten used to her as quickly as we thought so I kept her upstairs in my bedroom most of the time which meant she was using the puppy pads up there.
As the boys have slowly gotten a bit more used to her presence I try to keep her down stairs more often now which means I’ve started trying to potty train her outside the past week or so, it’s going okay she’s had a few accidents in the house but I take her out whenever I see her sniffing and she goes outside when I put her out there. (She doesn’t ask to go outside yet though).
We live in the Peak District UK which if you don’t know is known for its bad weather. It has been non stop rain and strong winds for the past few days and that’s when the toilet training has gone down hill, whenever I take her out she just wants to come back in (crying at the door)
I then tried taking her out the front and a bit away from the house but she just stands still like a statue or tries climbing up my leg. Then when I bring her inside she does the toilet inside.
The weather is only going to get worse and will probably start snowing soon too, is there anything I could try that I don’t know about? I worry that those first couple of weeks allowing her to use the puppy pads upstairs was a big mistake, what can I do to fix this?

Discussion Dachshund in Ontario / Quebec
Hi everyone!
Looking for a dachshund breeder recs in Ontario or Quebec (we don’t mind driving to pick up a puppy).
I had my eye on Windever Kennel (or Mud Creek) for some time, so any reviews on them would be helpful too ☺️
Thank you!

Image First night with Winston, wish me luck 🫡
Edit: First night was rough but we did it! I know a lot of people said to just let him in the bed with us but I want him to be crate trained so he has somewhere safe to be on the few occassions we have to leave the house without him 🫠 Ive bought him a snuggle buddy for sleeping going forwards so hopefully that helps him feel less lonely!☺️ Been wanting my own dog since I was 10, I turned 30 this month and decided it was finally time! This is Winston, a black & tan mini weenie, tonight is his first night both in a new home and in a crate and he is HATING it 😭 i feel awful hearing him cry, pls tell me he'll be okay and im just being sensitive 🥺

My Mabel girl sure does love giving COVID tests, despite my protests. Not sure if there's even a point to protesting.

Image Any tips for moving house with a dachshund?
Our family is moving house in the next couple of weeks and we've never moved house with a dog before. Chester is 5 and our current home is the only one he's lived in apart from the one he was born in. He was actually amazingly calm when we first got him, and so tiny and cute - I digress!
Anyway do you guys have any tips for making the move as smooth and as stress free as possible for him? The house we're moving to is in the same town but in an area we've not taken him to for walks before and we won't be doing it in a single trip.
I added a photo, because why not? Thanks in advance 😊.

Image Is my dachshund the exception? And should we chance getting a second.. Spoiler
galleryWe’ve had our sweet girl 3 months and she is 7 months old now. She is so unlike what I’ve heard about the breed that I’m wondering if we just lucked out. She is super shy around new people and does not bark unless she is wanting to come inside. She is not a cuddler, but will accept affection and then go to the other side of the couch to nap. She does however have separation anxiety, but someone is almost always home with her. She doesn’t like to burrow or be covered in blankets. She caught on to potty training after a few weeks and sleeps through the night with no accidents. She does hate the crate, but does well in a playpen for a few hours at a time. Shes been described as a cat version of a dog because she’s so chill and sweet.
My husband wants another dachshund, but I’m content with her and wonder if a new one would throw off the chill balance we have going on.
Has anyone had a more docile dachshund and either had success with just one living a good life, or has gotten a second pup and things have been better- or worse?

Video Dachshund having random intermittent severe pain episodes — IVDD? Spoiler
My boy Remy (just shy 2y/o) has had random, severe pain episodes (last about 30-45 seconds) for the last 2–3 days. He cries a lot when they happen and seems to curl/turn around and bite at his penis/back legs. I’ve attached a video of one of the less intense episodes where he isn’t crying?
Between episodes he is completely normal — walking, running, playing, eating and sleeping normally, high energy. No weakness, wobbling, dragging legs or problems walking.
We’ve been to the vet 3 times in the last 2 days. His X-ray was okay, although something in his abdomen that they weren’t concerned about and expected him to pass (think it’s a bit of a toy). He has also had episodes where his belly becomes visibly bloated and very hard (?) although it goes back to normal. No vomiting/diarrhoea and he’s peeing normally.
Vet examined his back/spine he flinched and showed signs of pain, so they suspect a back issue but they want to manage pain before more scans. He’s now on increased pain medication, had a methadone injection, trazodone and has been told to have strict rest.
I’m struggling with the IVDD theory because he has zero neurological/walking issues and seems completely fine between episodes.
Has anyone else’ experienced severe intermittent pain without any walking/leg problems, and did it turn out to be IVDD or something else?
Any experiences would be really appreciated ❤️

Discussion 3 year old getting anxious
I have two weens - a 3 year old girl (daughter), and a 7 year old boy (dad)
We have had a LOT of changes in the last year, including moving across the country twice. The first move wasn't too bad, but I did start to notice that our 3y girl started to not like going on walks and meeting new people.
For context - she doesn't act out aggressively but does tremble so so much in unknown scenarios. She doesn't want to meet new people or dogs, wants to be held by me or my husband, etc etc. She used to be so confident and unbothered no matter where we took her. This also happens now when we have people over to our house
On the other hand, Her dad is the most cool, calm, collected dog I've ever met. He doesn't know a stranger. She used to take after him in these situations but not so much anymore
The second move definitely solidified more of this. During the actual drive, she would not eat or drink and wouldn't go to the bathroom either (this was scary but she is good now thankfully)
Now that we are settled, I've tried going on shorter walks with lots of treats during times of the day where there wouldn't be a lot of cars or people out. Also have tried to make sure we aren't isolating the situation and inviting friends over that she knows. But it doesn't seem to have helped.
We do eventually have to move one last time, and I'm wondering if there is something specific I should be trying to do to help her with her anxiety? I hate the idea of another road trip where she is clearly stressed and want to do what I can to help increase her confidence again

Discussion Sling recommendation
My boy has been diagnosed with ivdd. What kind of sling would work best for him? To help him go to the bathroom
I’m using a scarf atm, but I need to find something comfortable for him!

Album The best thing I’ve done in a while
I lost my 15 year old dog in January, it was absolutely one of the saddest things of my entire life. I moved into a new house and my new neighbour had the sassiest little Dachshund who I absolutely fell in love with. After lots of research I picked up this girl 5 weeks ago and it’s just been the best thing ever. She’s just so fun and so so sassy and I couldn’t be more in love. She’s so fun to train (selective listening) and so fun to play with. I’m so so elated I went with this breed as they truly capture your heart and love so deeply.
