arms/hands 13 Year Old's Hands After Shower

Thumbnail

We first noticed this on my daughter's hands after we went to a water park for a few hours but then she told us it happens every time she takes a shower even or washes dishes. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? It's not just hand pruning, it's much more severe than that. It happens during any duration of exposure to water for over 5 or so minutes. I've never seen anything like it.

Location: Both hands

Treatments Tried: Lotion, gloves during dishwashing, taking shorter showers

Background: At first we thought it was from doing her hair (she has long and thick curly hair) but when it happened at the water park, we realized it wasn't the case. She states it is itchy and painful. Like when your shoes get wet and you walk around in them all day.

arms/hands Wife was told she has eczema, demonologist we went to see was not helpful. Need help how to proceed.

Need help with treatment for wife.
She has reynauds and rosacea, and dermatologist says that she has contact dermatitis and spongiotic dermatitis. I’m looking for second opinion because the demitologist didn’t seem interested in our case.

She has had this rash on and off, mostly on, for more than 3 years on left hand and 1.5 years on right hand. It feels like burning, stinging, raw feeling and throbbing with skin tightness due to swelling. She also has a prickling itchy feeling on hands that she is compulsive to itch and can’t help it. To me, it looks like a full on chemical burn but it is not.
The sores are weeping and leak a clear amber color fluid. It also feels warm sometimes.

She was given mometasone cream 2 weeks on and 1 week off which helped some, but the cream cannot be used on open wounds and the rash has progressed so much it is not helping now. Her hand is around 70%ish open now.

Second last pic was taken on the 8th, last pic was taken on the 12th. The first pic was taken today on The 26th. It progressed fast.

Her skin has always been sensitive. For soap and detergent we use unscented for both.

She regularly uses polysporin eczema essential and regular polysporin but stopped after rash got worse.
She also uses aveno baby eczema, Vanicream cream and vanicream lotion, and Patrick curelle hand body lotion. Most do not help and do not make rash worse if used.

I am hopeful for any info on what this could be and what treatment would be needed for the progression to stop.

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Scar on my face from picking a pimple two years ago - resulted in cutaneous anthrax- can this scar get better?

I got this scar from picking a pimple about two years ago which resulted in a gnarly infection. Doctor suspected cutaneous anthrax because of the symptoms and the fact I worked with animals daily at the time. I took a ton of antibiotics and kept the wound clean with basic ointment and used silicone scar patches for months after it closed.

I haven’t done anything professional for it. Just a basic skin care routine now. It’s lighter than the rest of my skin and quite depressed.

Can it be improved with cosmetic procedures/ surgery?
I’m so self conscious about it and I just want to know there’s hope for it to get better.

22 F. I weigh about 51kgs. i started noticing these red extremely itchy patches about two or three weeks ago.

At first, it was only my chest very little bit on my arms, but now I feel like it’s spreading to my legs and definitely my back and also my chest, but like a bigger area on it, the itching is severe and I absolutely hate it. I bought an itch relief cream. I think it has helped a little bit, but I’m not sure and I recently started having really bad rashes and bad itching on my legs. I don’t know what to do, and nothing seems to work on this.

ive heard being in the sun helps so lmk if that’s true but hopefully it’s sunny tomorrow. if anyone knows anything that might help please please please let me know. im so fed up with this and have no idea what’s going on

legs/feet Should I get this dark spot on the bottom of my foot checked out?

I first noticed this dark spot on the bottom of my foot last week, and I don’t remember seeing it there before. I’m not sure whether it’s a stain, dried blood, or a mole. It hasn’t changed much or faded over the past week. Should I have it checked out?

arms/hands 9 year old with itchy armpits and rash

About 2 weeks ago, my child complained of itchy armpits after a long, sweaty day. I didn't think much of it until she was scratching furiously a week later. Upon examination, she has little bumps in each armpit, plus the skin looks kind of wrinkled. It looks like it would be thick but it feels normal. At first I was thinking a heat rash. I had her wash with a gentle soap and told her to avoid sweaty activities.

After no improvement over the next couple of days (I had her use gold bond powder to try and keep it dry and to soothe the itch), I thought it could be a candida over growth from the sweat, so I started treating it with 2% miconazole nitrate spray about 4 days ago, but so far the rash seems exactly the same, and the itching just as bad. She reports that the spray drastically reduces the itching sensation for a time, but it always comes back. I would love to get her into a derm but the closest one is 2 months out. I'm scheduling an appointment with her pediatrician but in the meantime should I continue with the fungal treatment? Thanks for any insight/opinions!

general enquiry Dermatology (For Dummies?)

• Upvotes

Not sure if this is the right place to make this post. I've never given my skin a second thought, aside from random moisturizers, due to the occasional eczema flare up. I see a blemish/ingrown hair? I pop it. (I know I shouldn't. I'm looking to be set straight here. lol)

Point being, I have essentially no knowledge when it comes to taking care of my skin. Are there some resources, or general do's/don't that y'all know about that you would be willing to share for dummies? I'm talking, square one, ELI5, give me the low down. How do I take good care of my own skin on a daily basis?

Thank ya kindly!!

arms/hands Unknown/New Skin Tag?

Post image
• Upvotes

Noticed what appears to be a new skin tag on underarm. F29, stopped shaving underarms a few years ago but I apply deodorant daily (though usually without looking). I have other moles and skin tags that I've had my entire life, and all are unchanged, except this one spot that in 99% certain is not one of them. Not bleeding, not itchy, not painful upon touch. Does get random stinging sensations but so does most of my body as I have a few dysautonomia conditions. Seeing a derm in my area requires a referral from my pcp, is this concerning enough to try to fight for that referral to get this checked out?

scalp Sudden itchy scalp, have tried so many things, need advice

• Upvotes

I have damaged curly hair (from heat and color, which ive stopped using both), and I usually would wash my hair every 3-5 days. I’ve never ever had a problem with an itchy scalp, even when my hair gets greasy, but a couple months ago I noticed my scalp was getting itchy pretty fast after I washed it. It was happening quicker and quicker and now my scalp gets itchy like a day after I wash it, but my hair is not greasy at all, so now I have to wash my hair every other day. And there’s no flakes or dandruff or any bumps or redness. No other place on my body is itchy either, it’s just my scalp.

I hadn’t changed any products I was using when the itching started, so I don’t know what could have triggered it. But I was already using a moisturizing/hydrating shampoo and conditioner, plus leave in conditioner. But I thought maybe my scalp was dry so I used more product. It didn’t help, so I tried using less product, thinking it might be buildup. I tried washing more often, less often, conditioning my whole head, conditioning only my ends, using oils, masks, changing my hair products, anything I could think of. I’ve googled and tried so many things and I can’t figure out why I’m suddenly having this problem. Is there anything else I could try??

arms/hands Is this ringworm or psoriasis?

Post image

I have this for months now. It is getting progressively itchy. Initially I assumed it's just because of stress and if I don't touch it will go away.

My neck had a similar condition and it went away in a week. It is returning now.

What should I do?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks How to treat recurring stubborn angular cheilitis when I’ve already tried everything my doctor has suggested?

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is an ongoing issue I’ve had for 7 whole years now. I get these cuts at the corners of my mouth that go through cycles of being open and painful, and scabbed over and crusty. They’ll often stay around for months at a time (4-6 months) and then randomly disappear for the same amount of time, only to flare up again.

I have been to two different primary care doctors several times for this. Both think it’s angular cheilitis. The first doctor prescribed me an antibiotic cream and an anti fungal cream (mupirocin and nystatin). I used these as directed and neither worked. The second doctor recommended to keep a layer of petroleum jelly over them until they healed. This didn’t really speed the healing process either or make much of a difference.

I have never seen a dermatologist and while I have insurance, it’s not very good and I’m worried I wouldn’t be able to afford it. Is angular cheilitis something that’s just incredibly stubborn? Is there something else I’m missing? It’s a bummer because not only is it unsightly, but it’s painful as well.

Something else that might or might not be relevant…. I get canker sores quite frequently. Both issues involve the mouth so I thought I’d mention it just in case, but thanks for any and all insight!

Edit: also thought to add at one of the appointments I had lab work to see if I was vitamin deficient, I was only slightly vitamin d deficient and take a supplement now… no other deficiencies

Patch appears near my wife’s collar about three weeks ago. Wife thought it was ringworm and has been applying lotrimin for a week. Seems to be itchy not painful. Has not changed very much and this is the only spot. Any help? Not sure of any recent exposures no underlying conditions.. 25 F. Has never had eczema or any skin issues. Not sure what could have caused this. Just appeared out of nowhere.
Has anybody experienced this and what did you do to help?

It seems to only be in this location and not anywhere else but it has progressed and not getting any better. I plan to get it checked out soon but just curious if anyone has seen this or may know what it could be. He says it doesn’t itch or hurt and it feels the same as the surrounding skin. First picture is his eye currently, 2nd picture was his eye back in December last year. I didn’t think anything of it & thought it was just dry skin until I noticed how much it’s gotten worse.

back Two moderately atypical moles on my back—re-excision, monitoring, and recovery experiences?

Hi everyone! I recently had two shave biopsies on my back—one near my left shoulder and one on my lower back toward the middle.

Both came back as compound nevi with moderate atypia involving the deep and peripheral biopsy edges. Neither was diagnosed as melanoma. The pathologist recommended conservative re-excision, generally with 2 mm margins.

My dermatologist recommends removing them in separate appointments because of concerns about healing on my back.

Between the procedures and recovery, the whole process could take 4–6 weeks.

I’m very active—running, strength training, and yoga—so I’m trying to understand recovery and what alternatives are worth discussing before proceeding.

For anyone who’s had something similar:
- Did anyone decide against further removal?
- Did your dermatologist support monitoring, what informed your decision, and how has it gone?
- Has pigment returned or have you needed another procedure?
- If you had a stitched excision, what was recovery like?
- When could you comfortably walk, do daily activities, and return to workouts?
- If you had multiple spots, were they removed together or separately?
- Did anyone have a deeper shave instead of a stitched excision?
- Did getting a second opinion change your treatment plan?

I know experiences here can’t determine what’s appropriate for my specific spots, but I’d appreciate hearing what others went through and what questions helped you make a decision. Thank you!

Traveled this weekend and we were at and outside bar and a little while later I started becoming itchy on my legs and feet. I did stay with a friend that has a dog and I don’t think he has fleas? But do these look like flea bites or mosquitos or something else?

Any advice on how to reduce or eliminate these wrinkles and dark circles? It’s really annoying as I work in television and I feel really self conscious about how I look on TV. Should I see a dermatologist or is there any over the counter products that actually work? Thank you

I just noticed these a few days ago. They could have been there before and I just didn’t notice them. My baby’s next check up isn’t for another couple weeks but my postpartum anxiety is making me think the worst. Should I even bother my pediatrician about this before then?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Small bumps/dots around eye?

Thumbnail

These small red dots/bumps have begun to appear around and under the corner of my left eye. Sometimes it’s itchy for just a minute but otherwise doesn’t bother me at all. No pus or fluid or anything blister-like. But still worried about ocular hsv as I know that’s a thing. Research told me it may be periocular dermatitis so I changed my pillowcase and used a bit of aquaphor which didn’t really do anything. Had this once before and went to an eye doc who said it was nothing and to just keep my eyes clean but they’ve come back and I’m wondering if anyone else has had this? Thanks!

neck/chest/abdomen Neck has bumpy texture under the skin- why?

When I go to the mirror I see little bumps all over neck when I look up in to the ceiling

They don't hurt they've been there for a while .

My doctor has palpated my neck and has done blood work, all normal including TSH.

They can't be lymph nodes because they are pretty much everywhere on my neck. It's when I move my neck and stretch that skin tight is when you can see them

Is that fat?

Hi all! I’m 21 weeks pregnant and this redness appeared on my chin around 12 weeks. I’m so over it! It started off itchy, and dry. But now it’s just a very clear outline of a red patch on my chin that will sometimes be flaky, sometimes smooth. I’m at my witts end!

What does this look like?
