Work has gotten so crazy it's almost all sit-down, takeout etc these days :(
Even most nice restaurants are pretty butter/oil heavy and not the healthiest
I'm NOT looking for vegan or super healthy human kibble
Just clean, lower oil/butter but good food.
Think Fountain Grains and Greens, Cafe Gratitude, etc.

I’m looking to host a birthday dinner with a group of 12-14 women for a milestone birthday. Ideally West LA. I’ve requested pricing from a bunch of places recommended here (Fia, Ospi, Lumiere, etc) but they are out of my budget, coming in at over $100+ pp just for food, or $4K for private space reservations. I can do $1,200-1,500 max with drinks and gratuity included. What are some restaurants where we can reserve a large table for family style dining that would work within this budget, but also not be so loud that we can’t hear each other? TIA

Hello everyone!
I am wondering if anyone knows of any Souplantation/ Sweet Tomatoes locations that are still empty and haven't been repurposed or anything, or, if they have been, whether they're empty now. I am also wondering if anyone knows of places that would be good for a Sweet Tomatoes to be.
I am trying to do my part to help us get our sweet, sweet healthy buffet chain back!

Heading to Broken Spanish Comedor with a few friends later this week. Anyone been? What dishes did you love, and what would you order again? Any must-try cocktails? TIA.

Have been eyeing this place for a while as this neighborhood doesn’t have that many onigiri spots. Finally tried it and it was delicious! I ordered the spam and spicy salmon. Tasted freshly made, still warm in hand yet the nori offered a crunch to it, and the lemonade also was refreshing and tart like how I like it. Thought I’d share in case anyone is in the area!

I’m looking for a cookie that’s actually worth going out of my way for. Crispy edges, soft middle, lots of chocolate. Not one of those giant cookies that’s basically raw dough in the middle lol.
Bakery, little neighborhood spot, farmers market, I’m open to anything. Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, just really good.

A burrito with tender-ass pork, almost tasting like birria, but not, tater tots, eggs, onions and cilantro. It really tastes good with extra of the braising liquid of the pork, a broth that they use to make chilaquiles with. I really gotta try that next time

A popular Hollywood donut shop is preparing to close its doors after years of serving the Los Angeles community, but its owners say this isn’t the end.
Trejo’s Donuts, the Hollywood bakery associated with actor Danny Trejo, announced on Instagram that its last day of business at its current location will be Thursday, Oct. 29.
“Hollywood, it’s been so sweet!” the business wrote in a joint Instagram post with Trejo. “Come share one last coffee and donut with us before we close our doors.”
The announcement marks the end of the shop’s run at its only Hollywood location, though the business indicated that another location is already in the works.
“As our lease comes to an end, it is time to close this chapter at our one and only Hollywood location,” the announcement read. “We want to thank each and every one of you for being such an incredible and special part of our journey here!”
The shop invited customers to stop by for one last donut before Thursday’s closure.
“This is definitely not a final goodbye,” the announcement continued. “We’re so excited to welcome you all to our next spot!”
The business has not disclosed where its next location will be or when it is expected to open.
Trejo’s Donuts has become known for its colorful, creatively flavored donuts, including vegan options, and its connection to the Los Angeles-born actor, who also operates the Trejo’s Tacos brand.
The closure announcement drew an outpouring of reactions from customers, many sharing memories of visiting the Hollywood shop.
“I have some very fond memories of getting fantastic donuts on Saturdays when I lived in Chinatown,” one commenter wrote, adding that the shop’s vegan offerings made its donuts accessible to more customers.
For now, customers have until Thursday to visit the Hollywood location before it closes.
The business encouraged followers to stay tuned for updates on where it will open next.

We made #10 on LA Times 101 best restuarants. We've entered a new chapter!! We value and love those who adore our original soul food concept (don't worry bunch is coming soon). But now for dinner we offer seasonal California cuisine with a thoughtful wine list, classic cocktails, and a rstrong focus on hospitality. In many ways, this is an entirely new restaurant under the same name you know and trust - ALTA.
I'd love to hear from those who've visited recently, and I'm equally interested in hearing from those who haven't been back in a while.
We're still learning, growing, and refining. Honest feedback is always welcome.

Does anyone know of any restaurants/bars hosting Halloween events this Saturday? I’m not looking for any crazy parties, just a fun festive vibe.
For example, Black Market Liquor Bar in Studio City is having a costume contest, Halloween cocktails, tarot readings etc. Lawless Brewing is having a scary movie double feature with special drinks.
Unfortunately, both are on Friday. I’m looking for Saturday the 31st. Any recommendation? Anywhere in LA is ok, SFV preferred.

After going to 626 night market this year, i cant help thinking so many smaller and local businesses were pushed out, and most of the businesses there seemed to be vague generic food stalls with the same or similar AI banners. Some legitimately had near identical banners.
This has me thinking, much like how ghost kitchens became a big business for investors, i think a lot of these food vendors are created and ran by some private equity group or conglomerate that just creates one-off vendors with the intention of selling at night markets.
I dont have any proof, but makes perfect sense to me; im surprised it hasnt been done sooner tbh, with how competitive and packed these markets become.
But i feel this is what is killing the vibe and spirit of night markets now, whereas before it was local businesses coming in to sell their food, it's just asian-eque slop for the sake of getting investors richer. A lot of my favorite smaller vendors this year were not seen at 626, and i feel that they are pushed out by stall rent they cannot afford, most likely for this reason.
Again, i have no proof for these allegations, but if anyone in the know has any info confirm or contradict me, or just any thoughts in general, id be happy to hear.

We enjoy Scopa but have been there too many times recently. Trying to avoid Italian or sushi because those are kind of our mainstays. Preferably not too dark out too noisy.
We went to Si! Mon last year and it was so loud that we could only speak to each other with our voices raised, which wasn’t very relaxing. Also they don’t serve coffee which is kind of important to me. Le Great Outdoor didn’t serve coffee either.
We enjoy Carasau but also have been there many times.
Anyway, any new ideas would be much appreciated!
