casual hot take Size matters.
I appreciate the sentiment of not shaming people with small dicks, they can't change it and it's not nice to make anyone feel badly about things they can't change, foundationally.
Small/average dicks are *fine*, and lots of people (myself included) are more than happy to have sex with someone average or small, because skill level and attraction to other characteristics about a person accounts for a good portion of the experience.
HOWEVER pretending that size doesn't matter at all is simply delusional, bigger is better. I said it, and I meant it. This take feels cold to me, but I feel like I hear "size doesn't matter" way too often so I figured I'd bring it here.
A 4.5 inch dick will never feel the same as a 7.5 inch dick, it just won't. Again, this is not to say a 4.5 inch dick can't be pleasurable, it's to say that it's much less likely to be satisfactory, and more often requires other skills and other things to be true in order for the other person to enjoy it.
Before y'all start, I understand there is a threshold for everyone at which point a dick is too big, BUT that threshold is rarely below 7 inches, and the average is around 5.5. There is a *very* small percentage of people who are "too big" to enjoy compared to a very LARGE percentage of those who are too small to enjoy.
Feels like maybe this whole idea that "size doesn't matter" is really based on sensitivity to the fragility of the male ego, and less about the preference and enjoyment of people who have sex with them.
This is mostly for the girls/gays/nb's/bi's and others that like dick to discuss, but I'm sure there will be plenty of backlash from men who are insecure and will deliberately miss the point.

Y’all, this is just a quick rant, but can we please stop buying gifts for the non-birthday siblings?
It’s peak birthday season and one of my absolute BIGGEST pet peeves is when parents scramble to buy "consolation" gifts for the other kids just because they’re crashing out over someone else getting attention.
When did we stop teaching kids that the world doesn't revolve around them? Yes, we are big on teaching emotional intelligence these days, but there's a massive difference between validating feelings and enabling entitlement. If Tommy is melting down because he didn't get a toy on his brother's birthday, handing him a present anyway just teaches him that a tantrum gets results.
Not only does it ruin the birthday child's special day—because now everyone is tiptoeing around a meltdown or being forced to share the spotlight—it robs kids of a crucial life skill: learning to sit with discomfort. Handling disappointment, waiting your turn, and genuinely celebrating someone else’s win without making it about you are essential.
You 100% can gentle parent while still holding boundaries and teaching kids how to tolerate being uncomfortable.
Whenever I’m working, I don't play that game. If my NK gets a birthday gift, I don't let the siblings tear into it or play with it. For the first two days I redirect every time. Unless my NK says they are ready to share.
I understand there are some special cases, but like even children who are on the spectrum still need to learn those skills.
🤯😬Watching parents cave to the sibling chaos is honestly wild. Rant over!

Bagels are garbage.
They are way too hard and dense 90% of the time and are by far the worst breakfast carb. Any breakfast sandwich is significantly better with a croissant, english muffin, or biscuit. Toasted english muffins are also much better with anything (butter, jam, etc) than a bagel of any flavor.
Who is even keeping big bagel in business?

Dating apps would be better for men AND women if they had filters not just for height, but weight as well.
And not just that, put breast size and penis size too. If all men filtered to what they actually wanted and then just swiped right on every profile like they do now, the average woman's matches/likes would drop to a mere fraction of what it is now. Most women would continue filtering the way they do and realize the pool they're aiming at is much smaller than the 10-20k matches/likes/ messages suggest. Less shit to sift through for everyone.
The argument I hear about weight is that it changes... but you can change your weight on the app too... so thats not a good excuse. No one is swiping right on a 350 lb person with the hopes they'll go to the gym and work it off for you, they swipe right because thats what they're into.

casual hot take Basic economics is way more important than history and should be mandatory in high schools.
Why do we have 4 years of history in high school and no mandatory economic classes. For voting, personal finance, picking a career and life in general economics 101 will do you way more good than learning more history in your senior year.

Justin Gaethje 10-8'd Ilia Topuria in R3
Ilia landed like 3 good hits while Justin just played with his food. Absolute domination. Just watch the round again.
Ilia could not get passed the jab. He got dropped by a right hook. He got rocked by another right hand later, where he had to retreat for the last part of the round. Even then, he got walked down and hit with a partially blocked headkick.
After all that Ilia went to the stool and said he couldn't see. Then a doctor ruled that there was too much damage (the main scoring criteria) to continue the fight.
Ilia tried to milk the extra minute to get more water to drink too. Goddard had to take the water bottle away from him and overrule the doctor to get him back in the fight where he lost round 4 too.
Then his corner threw in the towel.
This fight was not close.

casual hot take Passivity can be a symptom of an actual disability, but almost nobody treats it that way.
I think people have a pretty limited understanding of what a mental disability can look like.
Take ADHD, for example. Most people associate it with being distracted, forgetful, or hyperactive. But ADHD can also seriously affect your ability to take initiative, make decisions, pursue goals, or even engage with the world around you. Similar problems can occur with autism, depression, and other conditions.
But when someone is passive, we almost always interpret it as a reflection of their character. They’re lazy, complacent, unambitious, or just don’t care enough.
We’re willing to accept that someone’s brain might impair their ability to remember things, process information, or concentrate. But when it comes to their ability to actually do things, suddenly that’s entirely within their control?
Someone can have enormous ambitions and desires and still struggle to act on them. They might spend years watching their life pass them by, not because they’re content with it, but because they genuinely struggle to get themselves moving.
And I think men are particularly screwed by this when it comes to dating. Men are generally expected to pursue women, make the first move, and take the lead. Women can afford to be passive in dating in a way that men often can’t. And assertiveness is a quality that I think women tend to value in men more than the reverse. So if you’re a man with a disability that makes you passive, you’re at a pretty significant disadvantage.
What’s especially unfortunate is that passivity isn’t just seen as a character flaw. It’s often seen as an unattractive one. People have very little sympathy for it, and I don’t think most people even consider the possibility that it could be a symptom of a disability.

If you encourage your friend to get an abortion you are a shitty friend
The best response is to support them regardless of their decision. Nobody should be whispering in their ear to abort or to birth. It’s very hard to make that type of a decision when you’re the one in that position, so let them make that choice on their own terms, don’t try to persuade them when you don’t know how they feel. You can’t get that baby back after an abortion is done, so let them decide if they’re ready. Some people don’t regret getting an abortion and some do, they need to weigh that up. Your job as a friend is to support them regardless of the decision they make

casual hot take Calling Grey’s Anatomy “A Show For White Girls” Blatantly Disregards BIPOC Creators and Actors
There isn’t really much more to say about this one. I understand that this kind of started as an internet joke, but seriously. Shonda Rhimes is an incredible writer, and you cannot tell me that show hasn’t saved a life in some way.
Grey’s has always had a diverse cast, and that wasn’t being pushed as hard in 2005. Like, the cast was considered so diverse at the time that people not only boycotted the show, but on the flip-side it received awards and tons of praise for how inclusive the cast was without ever being asked. Shonda Rhimes literally forced executives to allow more a more diverse casting call. She then proceeded to place most of those POC characters at the top of the medical food chain.
Personally I feel like anyone who still has this opinion is just regurgitating internet jokes without thinking for a few more seconds. Like. Is it not more racist to discredit this show as “a show for white girls” when it’s literally known for how culturally inclusive and non-stereotypical it is?

Race mixing is anti diversity.
If people race mix, everyone will be the same race in time. There won't be any diversity anymore.

serious hot take the "school girl" aesthetic is weird.
the "school girl" aesthetic (plaid skirts, pigtails, button down, bowtie and stockings) is weird and anyone defending it needs to be investigated.
every year theres "sexy schoolgirl" halloween costumes, every stripper, bartender or waitress has stories about how pigtails get her more tips, and porn websites are filled with women in pigtails and bedrooms clearly intended to be that of a teenagers. I dont care if "but schoolgirls can be 18!", most of them aren't and you full well know it.

cold take If you don’t like the way a community on here is go ahead and create your own
A few minutes ago, I saw a post where someone was complaining about how this community has been supposedly taken over by liberal leftists. As someone who is one and proud of that, let me tell you something. You’ve got lots of options out there. You can scroll, or go as far as to create your own community where you share whatever your ideology is. You absolutely are not obligated to stay in this sub if you don’t like the atmosphere of it. I’m telling you this as someone who used to argue with people in comment sections and realized overtime that everyone believes something for reasons only known to them. As the time goes on, and we live this life, as is, we make our own conclusions about it, which I’m not getting into here. If you’re observant as a person you might see things the way most people don’t. If you disagree with something to the point where you have the urge to complain about it in front of the whole community, why not just leave the community? You wouldn’t have to look at what clearly annoys you.
r/HonestHotTakes • u/ArtemisiaOrthia • 1h ago
Children should be granted autonomy while the community raises them instead of individual parents.
Children should be able to make decisions about their well-being and living situations with the same authority adults do, provided there's a degree of reversibility to their decisions due to their developing mental faculties. They should not be considered the property of their parents, nor should their parents be mainly responsibly for ensuring their successful development. It should fall to everyone in the community to look out for and raise the children in their community, though parents naturally have an incentive to offer additional resources to their specific children. Children should not have to live with their parents if they don't want to.
Things like schools and children's programs should be geared toward the children's interest and what they want to develop into, rather than standardized systems that encourage conformity at the cost of success and skill development. School should be democratized in favor of the students.
Watchdog programs to prevent child abuse should be much more heavily funded and staffed with more people, and children should be able to reach out to independent third parties outside of their immediate family and community if they feel unsafe or unserved by said community.

serious hot take Pretty privilege doesn’t exist because of how hatable being pretty makes you.
I’m a conventionally attractive woman. I don’t date. I don’t have sex. I don’t want to be married. I don’t want kids. I literally want nothing to do with any of that because of the shitty places the dating world has taken me and the life-altering beatings I’ve gotten from ex boyfriends. I’m good on all that.
People that are too chicken shit to tell someone at a bar that they’re attractive or to leave someone their number will yap at me relentlessly about how easy I must have it and how everything comes naturally to me because I can get a date easily. It is actually so mind boggling that people that have never once even tried to make a move want to tell me that. How would you know the game is too easy for me when YOU ARENT EVEN PLAYING?? Aside from romantic prospects literally nothing comes easy.
Particularly, I find it really hard to make friends because women will inherently see me as competition. Men will inherently see me as a sex object. People think I’m stupid. People think I’m flirting with their partner. People threaten me. People think I must have it so fucking easy.
I’ve tried to gain weight on purpose. I have this moldy-green colored hair I refuse to fix. I stopped wearing makeup (even though I really enjoy it.) I dress down most places because I’m tired of the immediate assumptions. The threats. The attention in general.
Any time I have an interest/hobby or I’m knowledgeable about something I’m talked down to like I’m five. Anything remotely interesting about me is treated like a fucking novelty. Like wow someone that looks like you??????? Can play video game???? Can do anything at all???? Wild concept.
I don’t center romantic love in my life at all whatsoever. I want a solid job and to make something of myself. Every workplace is a nightmare. I know what my male coworkers say about me. Rumors that I’m sleeping with so and so. Rape threats in my workplace. From my boss. Don’t even get me started on the shit I’ve endured in customer service. And if I say anything about it to HR everyone looks down on me.
I have priorities and my looks make everything but being a wife fucking impossible and I never want to be that.

casual hot take Child-free social media people need to get rid of this weird anger/chip on their shoulder
Why are “child-free” social media people always so angry and in some sort of one-sided beef with people who have kids and kids themselves? It’s so strange and unsettling.
I know Reddit hates children so I know a lot of said angry people are going to show up to this post and freak out, but seriously, it’s extremely odd and just makes you look like you’re desperately trying to cover for some inadequacy you feel in your life.
I’m gay so I can’t just “go have a baby” like straight people, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight and this is more of an outside perspective, but the truth is that people who are genuinely happy don’t feel the need to run around and condescendingly remind other people about how happy they are and how their lives are so much better.
Child-free social media people almost feel this weird need to constantly brag about how great their lives are and are always comparing their life to what it would look like if they had kids. Like “WELL I SLEPT IN ON SATURDAY!!! I TRAVELED TO SPAIN THIS SUMMER!!!!! I WENT OUT WITH MY FRIENDS IN THE CITY ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!!! CAN YOU DO THAT?? HUH?? HUH????? HUH???????”
Like holy fuck just chill out. If you’re so happy go enjoy your life, why does other people having kids bother you so much? And why are you in a one-sided competition with parents to prove your life is so much better? Like, genuinely, why?

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! It's a Hot Take If It's Rare, Based, Nuanced or Disagreeable. You just don't like those on the sub.
Here's the thing. I will see a hot take I really, really hate. Like, how the hell did someone arrive at this conclusion? And you know what I do? Swing it a boost, and comment to engage in discussion on it.
But let's face reality. For most folks on this sub, the most lukewarm, bathwater takes get the boost. Examples like this include:
(1) Men and women can be friends;
(2) It's okay to be [insert majority here];
(3) [obvious default] is the default; and
(4) [hipster thing] is bad [insert obvious counter].
There's little room for nuance, a ton of semantic debate for some reason, and people aggressively arguing over what is essentially the same thing.
Want a hot take? Ozympic works because it takes advantage of a trait already present in a ton of people who take it: being lazy. See how well that floats in a post-body positivity era.
That's all. That's my hot take.

casual hot take Women prefer to be friends first, yet dread the moment a guy friend develops feelings
outside dating apps they dislike the idea of a guy chatting them up and asking them out because apparently it makes it look the man is treating them as a potential romantic/relationship prospect instead of a regular human being or whatever. They would like that men would get-to-know-them as people first, but at the same time there are tons of articles where women are dreading about the moment one of her male acquaintances starts soft launching into flirting, or even worse, confessing he has feelings for her. There is no middle ground here because a womans definition of a "guy friend who is about to ruin your friendship" ranges from someone who is a trusted bestie she has known for 10 years to the acquaintance she met at a concert last week.

The issue with dating is the apps and social media, not the other gender
I feel like this should be obvious, but I feel like the apps/social media are the biggest issue in modern dating. Most people just love to blame the other gender instead.
Of course in dating looks does play a massive factor as well as job, where you live etc. However, the biggest issue in dating is the apps. The apps are designed to be cold, impersonal and money making machines. The apps encourage bad behaviour like shopping for people (gamifying finding love) and ghosting. Sure the apps can be positive in many ways, but also creates a lot of stress, sadness and delusion. The idea of the "Grass is greener" mentality is all over dating apps.
The other issue is social media. Social media makes everyone think they are entitled to 10/10 supermodel baddies. Where in the real world, when I walk down the street, I see very happy normal couples. Not everyone is a super model in real life. Lot of people only want the very most attractive people and would happily skip people for small reasons. Preferences are normally now exaggerated where people who may be interested in you are no longer an option as you want that really hot person who may or may not even exist outside social media models or movies.
However, most people go straight down the route of "Its all Men/Women fault" The amount of posts of just angry men I read trying to blame women for not dating them is insane. Like almost any dating subreddit has posts about how easy women have it and how women has ruined dating (which is not true). Even today I saw a post where a women was stood up and ghosted and the amount of just random hate was crazy she got from some guys in the comment. Tbh, it goes both ways as there are lots of women who comment how men are to blame, they are all incels and deserve to be lonely .
It baffles me and the misattributed blame lately is deeply concerning. I know reddit is mostly a giant Echo Chamber for angry and bitter people, but the apps and social media algorithms are the common enemy here, not the other gender.

I actually enjoyed the Halo TV series
I know.
"This guy fucking sucks"
"This prick has no business enjoying tv or film"
"This guy's take actually gave me food poisoning. No I'm for real guys."
But I DID enjoy the attempt at filming a beloved franchise. I played the first game when it first came out. I was 12/13. And every game afterwards. I even watched the Halo movies throughout the decades. Its in my blood.
First off. The CGI, practical effects, costumes, and were great IMO. For streaming TV? Absolutely.
The casting was great. I thought Pablo made a wonderful John 117. The Spartans were great. The military brass, the doctor, and Cortana were great.
The action sequences were fantastic for the budget. John fighting an Elite without his suit in a residential/mall area? Really fun. A vulnerable, intense, raw moment for the the main character.
The story I think is where most people disagree. I will agree that they focused a bit too much on the new Covenant storyline, and it wasnt great...but this could have been a decent series. We only gave it decent/okay 2 seasons. We were about to get into the Forerunners and the Flood, and a majority of us fans kinda fucked up the chance to get that storyline done by being so harsh.
I would like to see a season 3 with the same cast, but a more competent studio. Maybe I'm too excited to see a genuine attempt at the world being fleshed out. When all we have are the awful fan films and CGI movies that are more like cutscenes, I don't feel bad about giving this series a chance.

A chimp isn't as strong as many people think
No, your average chimpanzee isn't 5 times stronger than an average human, the study claiming so was poorly conducted at 1920 where a rage filled adrenaline spiked chimpanzee had used all its leverage on a dynamometer (a machine that measures pulling force), whereas humans had calmly pulled onto the dynamometer. The results were misleading where apparently the chimpanzee pulled 5 times its bodyweight. A more recent study in 2017 shows that chimp muscle is actually 1.35 to 1.5 times stronger than normal muscle, making a chimp on average 1.35 to 1.5 times stronger than a human pound for pound. So for example a 100 lbs chimp would likely have the same power output as a 135-155 lbs trained man. Therefore, a heavyweight person who has some knowledge about fighting or is simply a massive strongman has a solid chance of winning against the chimp, I'd even say 70-80 percent. Your average male chimp is 4ft 11 with a wingspan of 6ft and a weight of 40-60 kg (88-132 lbs) . If we're talking about athletic humans who are easily 240-300 lb, with most of the mass coming from lean muscle, the weight advantage is too much. If the chimp were to cling onto the human, the human can simply use their bodyweight, driving forwards or backwards to crush the ribs of the chimp. Plus with this person likely being very tall the reach disadvantage is likely closed- the chimp in this case would have a shorter winspan. The human can keep the chimp from a distance whilst landing devastating blows. The human also being physically much bigger would be able to tank more shots from the chimp than your average person. In conclusion, chimpanzees are freakish for their size, an average joe stands no chance, but it's also stupid to claim that a chimpanzee is stronger than all humans simply because of stories like Travis the chimp, where the chimpanzee had caught a 55 year old likely untrained woman off guard.

Men shouldn't be doxed or criticized for participating in the Nike After Dark Tour
Women are doxing and attacking men online for running in a race where the organizer welcomed them to participate.
This is unacceptable - some of these men saw Nike sponsoring a race at night and thought it would be cool to participate and are getting dragged through the mud online with their reputations at risk.
Since race results are public, men that signed up using their real names, genders are at risk of being cancelled.
If only women are allowed to participate, what's to stop the next race from excluding people of certain skin colors, ethnicity, or sexual orientation? You see what a slippery slope is it?
Either you are against discrimination or you're not. You don't get to pick and choose when it suits you.
Discrimination based on gender is BAD shouldn't be a HOT TAKE.
