Two of these are considered classics and two of these should be considered classics

- Pulse (2001) / Kairo
- 964 Pinocchio (1991)
- Ju-On: The Grudge (2002)
- Violator (2018)

Of course I own both Pulse (2001), the 2006 Magnolia Pictures DVD and Ju-On: The Grudge (2002), the 2004 Lionsgate Home Entertainment DVD.

Hahahaha!~ but alas! I also own the 2004 Unearthed Films DVD for 964 Pinocchio (1991), which you can find on Ebay, there’s also various options to watch the film such as Tubi or on Blu Ray via Media Blasters, or 88 Films, funnily enough I own the 88 Films Blu Ray.

Violator (2018), the copy I own is the 2022 Wild Eye Releasing DVD, you can find it on Amazon or Ebay. It’s also on Tubi as well as having a Standard Edition Blu Ray that’s also widely available.

- Ring (1998) (AKA Ringu)
- Audition (1999)
- Meatball Machine (2005)
- All Night Long (1992)

4 films from my Japanese horror collection. Hopefully you discover something you never heard of before!

Most fucked up dark comedy I’ve ever seen. Pictured with my other Miike film, Audition :)

So what’s going on with yumi. Her childhood sounds a lot like that evil kids? And then she gets possessed by the kid at the end? I liked it decent enough but I got confused lol

Adults and children alike were startled by me, and some children even cried just as I walked past them. I felt a little excited.

1. Marebito - Easily one of my all time favorites, interpreting the movie was more fun than just watching it. The movie kept me hooked from start to end, it might be a little slow but it didn't bother me.

2. The Machine Girl- Super fun and goofy, the production quality and bizarre action makes it even more enjoyable

3. 964 Pinnochio - Omg tf was happening. Crazy movie, I was disgusted watching a few scenes (puking and all) but I didn't skip anything... It was fun

4. Infection - Actually felt like a "horror" movie... The ending was very unexpected, it had me thinking for a while.

5. Carved the slit mouth woman - Not scary but I liked the theme

6. Ringu- I guess I am really late... This movie is supposed to be surface level j horror but I got to watch it after watching like 10 other movies, it was of course a really good movie, the story was also interesting but I knew what was going to happen... It would have been more enjoyable if I didn't know anything about the movie or if I watched it like 10 years ago.

7. Cult- wanted to rank this 5 but the ending was really disappointing... This could exponentially be much better but all the build up got drained in the end

8. Sadako vs kayako - It was more of a goofy movie than a horror movie... Pretty average movie, not bad.

9. Onibaba- too slow and stretched.... Should have just read the story in 10 mins instead of watching for around 1 hr 40 mins.

Wow... for a B-horror 90's, its very impressive. But the most surprising is that the director, Shimako Sato is the wife to the Takashi Yamazaki. Yes, that Godzilla Minus One director

I remember watching Dark Water as a kid. I knew about popular movies like Ringu and Ju-On because of their English remakes, but the movie that actually got me to explore more of J-horror was Noroi.

I remember watching the Thai movie Incantation and wanting to explore more found-footage horror movies, which eventually led me to Noroi. I loved it. It genuinely creeped me out back then, and it's still my all-time favourite.

Curious to know which movie got y'all into this genre

Not a movie, but might be of interest to you.

I, the Executioner (1968)

I’m surprised how unseen this film is. Only 2.6k watches on Letterboxd.

I'm so excited. This is the first time I've ever worn a complete outfit.😭😭😭

I really love Rolly Teranishi's performance here, but the character certainly comes out of left field.

I get the role he plays in the story, but I'm not quite sure how he connects to the larger themes at play

Yesterday I watched Mononoke Hospital (2022), another movie presented as J-horror but it was a soft-porn movie. Anybody here understand the story? Also it was very funny when the Kappa fights with a furry yokai 🤣

I’ve heard some crazy things about this one

I've been looking for the soundtracks of the movie and i thought it may be a good idea of asking reddit, if anyone has any idea about it I'd be glad to know if i can find them somewhere online

What do you think would have happened if Hideo Nakata had preserved Sadako's humanity as he did in the Kanzenban edition? Showing her face and portraying her as a deeply tragic child?

– Because the murder of Sadako in the 1998 film is so bizarre that we don't even see her face, and it's filmed from a completely "dehumanized," almost two-dimensional angle..

– What if the film had kept Sadako's face visible, or even if it wasn't explicitly stated, but included something that suggested she was intersex as well?

How do you think later films, remakes, etc., and characters inspired by it would be different?

Wondering if anyone has seen Incomplete Chairs yet. Finally found it streaming on Bloodstream TV and was planning on checking it out.

Sadako's Revenge: The Movie (2021), also known as Sadako Strikes Back, and it's sequel(?), Sadako's Grudge (2023). Two of the many unofficial Sadako movies, and probably the lowest budget yet.

Has anyone seen these? And does anyone know where to even begin looking for them?

I’ve been thinking about Koji Suzuki’s Ring trilogy, especially Loop, and how it relates to the current AI trajectory.

With advancements in AI, simulations and world models, some of the ideas in the books seem increasingly relevant. It’s honestly a bit unsettling how plausible some of it feels now.

Has anyone else read the trilogy and made this connection?

(Spoilers ahead, ofc)

I really liked the movie, I enjoyed it thoroughly but was that his daughter? The woman who kept following him said that he hid their daughter with him, plus he himself admitted killing his wife and turning his daughter into an animal. But again, he found her from the underground world isn't it? I am a little confused about the plot, it seems highly symbolic. I really liked the plot being "A man overly ambitious about knowing what real terror is, discovers a hidden underground nether land and a girl who feeds on blood" but the father-daughter reference and the other characters including those ugly dermos are confusing me. I would love it if anyone who has watched the movie explains what it all means or at least share if u have any theory about it

Huge fan of Noroi: The Curse here! I just wanted to share this amazing Kagutaba replica mask, which was beautifully handmade by a talented Thai artist / local maker here in Thailand.

What I love most about it is the custom paint job. Since it’s 100% hand-painted, no two masks are ever the same—every blood splatter and weathered detail is unique. The curse has officially crossed borders, and I'm so proud to add this one-of-a-kind Thai-made piece to my collection!
