Characters The friends who, according to the story, are supposed to be best friends, actually maintain a toxic relationship.

Harry Osborn / Peter Parker: For many, Harry Osborn is Peter Parker's best friend. However, reading the comics reveals that their relationship is anything but a healthy friendship. Harry is someone who has never known how to handle stress and constantly tries to lean on his friends Mary Jane, Flash, or Peter just to keep himself together. Not only that, but he is so obsessed with his father that if he could get even a shred of validation or a single supportive word from Norman Osborn, he would willingly put his own son's life in mortal danger. While it is true that he has done good things for Peter, that does not erase the bad things, which are much worse. And yes, Peter ignored him when Harry was sick, but considering that happened on the exact same day Gwen died, his behavior is completely understandable. Furthermore, Harry talks about Peter continuously. In the comics, it becomes clear that characters like Flash Thompson or Johnny Storm are much better and healthier friendships than Peter and Harry's. It doesn't help that the worst thing Peter ever did to Harry was stand him up (and considering that happened when Harry was an adult, he can't blame Peter because he wasn't a kid anymore). On the other hand, the least harmful thing Harry did was create robots based on the memory of Peter's parents, tarnish his reputation, and try to kill him. Harry is not a good friend. I understand that he loves his father, but when you let a sociopath who killed your childhood friend and tried to kill you multiple times get close to your children just because of your daddy issues—and you use that as an excuse—you simply cannot be seen as a good friend. Note: I know the person in the image isn't Harry, but it basically exemplifies why their friendship isn't a good one.

Naruto / Sasuke: This one is actually quite well-known. No matter how much Naruto claims Sasuke was his first friend, Sasuke was actually a pretty terrible one. Even considering that, we also had Orochimaru, who did associate with Naruto during his childhood. Sasuke is a character who is not widely liked, partly because his avenging emo attitude becomes annoying, and also because the way the characters around him act toward him is off-putting. Naruto's endless obsession even causes him to hyperventilate. In my opinion, Sasuke and Naruto are not exactly close friends, mostly because Sasuke seems to treat Naruto with contempt almost all the time. While it is true that Sasuke was among those who "saved Naruto from the hell of loneliness," their relationship is not a true friendship. They always talk about "friendship" (Sasuke even said Naruto is his only close friend despite treating him poorly), but to me, it looks more like mutual admiration or obsession. However, they never talked about it. Sakura and Naruto develop an obsession with bringing back a guy who was nothing but a jerk to both of them, especially to Sakura. Her obsession with being "madly in love" with a guy who took every opportunity to humiliate her is infuriating, to the point where he even tried to kill her. To be fair, at one point Sakura did say they had to stop Sasuke one way or another. I understand Sasuke's motivations, but Naruto's obsession becomes toxic.

Characters [Horrifying Trope] You aren't fighting them, but their puppeteered corpse (Ace Combat 8 Spoiler on last slide) Spoiler

Saren - Mass Effect:
Saren is the main villain of the first game in the series, and believes that he's saving the galaxy by helping the Reapers invade. However, by the end of the game you're given the chance to try and talk him down. If you succeed he shoots himself in the head... but he's been around the Reaper's so long he's been turned into a cyborg, the robotic parts turning on you and acting as the game's final boss.

Gwyndolin/Aldrich - Dark Souls 3:
Some players might assume Gwyndolyn, the human with the crown, is Aldrich on their first playthroug. However, Aldrich is the hairy, bony goop coming out from below Gwyndolyn. Aldrich was a cannibal that ate so many people he literally turned into sludge, with Gwyndolyn being his latest victim by the time the player arrives.

The Second Land Battleship - Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve:
The Second Land Battleship is a massive... land battleship featuring numerous AA turrets, drone factories, and railguns. As you damage it more and more, the captain begins to rely on the main guns, slowly heating up the ship. As you start to destroy more and more of the heat vents, you're essentially turning the land battleship into a massive oven with guns. You eventually hear the crew over the comms screaming, begging the captain to surrender, and even saying to avoid drinking water because all the water in the ship is boiling. As you near the end of the fight, the screaming eventually ends and the only comms from the ship is a looping message from the captain. The only reason the guns of the land battleship are still firing is because of the ship's automation.

Lore Monster only eats a specific organ. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

They aren't vampires, but they're just as picky. Instead of only drinking blood, they only eat one particular organ. Which is pretty wasteful, if you ask me.

1). Return of the Living Dead:
The zombies only eats "brains" because it helps with the pain of being dead.
As far as I'm aware, this film is the origin of zombies and brains.

2). The X-Files:
Tooms is a mutant who hibernates for decades at a time. He eats people's livers.

3). Grimm:
The Glühenvolk is an alien-like wesen (supernatural creature) that is hunted for their bioluminescent skin. When a female Glühenvolk is pregnant, she develops a very specific craving for cow ovaries. That seems to be the origin of the "aliens abducting cows" myth.

4). Real life:
To my surprise, the delightful and sprite-like keas will chow down on live sheep kidneys. This is apparently a behavior they evolved to feed on the now-extinct keas.

Characters Something wants to copy another thing, but because they dont understand the thing theire copying it comes out fucked up and deformed

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Still Life (Backrooms) - All of the backrooms are like this, but the Still Life are the most. Basically, if I understand it correctly, everything in the backrooms is created from the collective memories of that thing. So if it would try to create a copy of, say, me, it would use memories of the people who know me to create the clone. The problem with memories is that they can get warped. The more you remember, the less you do, as they say. And the results are these messed-up-looking "people" with deformed features.

Agamemnon counterpart - An old creepy video from YouTube. It starts with text that says that, in the future, on a destroyed blue planet, someone found a cassette tape. It then proceeds to tell us that the video is completely different from what is on the cassette tape before showing us a messed-up and corrupted-looking cartoon. Now, it could all be random, made to confuse you; however, a popular theory is that the video is actually trying to tell a story. That in the future, when Earth is destroyed and humanity is seemingly extinct, an alien race finds a tape with an old children's cartoon and tries to recreate it. Key word being tried.

Empty Child (Doctor Who) - In World War II London, an alien spaceship containing Medical nanogenes crash-lands in London. Now the nanogenes' purpose is to heal anyone it deems injured. The problem with that is that, for it to do its job, it must know what the species it's trying to heal looks like and its biology. And it hasn't the faintest idea what humanity looks like. So when it crashed in London, it crashed right next to the corpse of a little boy who died during the Blitz. The boy was wearing a gas mask, and since the genes had no prior knowledge of humanity, it assumed every human looked like this, and those who didn't, it deemed "injured," so it started turning normal people into gas mask zombies, with the gas mask being a part of their face.

Old AI (Real life) - Now AI has become so advanced it can be really hard to distinguish it from real life, even with its flaws. But when it first came out, it... wasn't like that. It just mindlessly copied the pictures in the catalogue without knowing why or what it was trying to copy.

Characters [Planning Trope] They did not think things through well enough, if at all.

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Rule of thumb: no real life examples! Happens way too much and history is full of this. So please don't.

Stella (Helluva Boss): Consistently has issues with this, sometimes to the point of being stupid evil. In Western Energy, when Stella and Adrealphus were waiting for Stolas to be killed by Striker, the latter questioned this and points out to the former that when Stolas is dead (or incapacitated), all of Stolas' assets, wealth, legions, property, etc. will be transferred Octavia, with Stella getting jack shit. She finds this an acceptable trade-off, annoying then enraging her brother. This leads to Andrealphus to coax his sister to call off the hit so that the two can find a way to take everything away from Stolas before he croaks or Octavia inherits. Fast forward to Mastermind, and the two were celebrating that news that Stolas and Blitzø broke up, with Stella letting slip that the former was letting the latter use the grimoire for their arrangement. This infuriates Andrealphus since this bit of information could've given the two a massive amount of leverage against the prince. But by that point, without the relationship, this information can only be as good as baseless gossip, forcing Andrealphus to go after Bliztø and I.M.P to force Stolas to either fall on his sword or be so distraught that he can be argued to be stripped of everything (though I'm not sure if the latter is guaranteed to work). Another moment of not thinking things through occurs in The Auction, where during said auction of Stolas' belongings, when Vassago starts to bid a sentimental (and gift for Octavia) necklace that belonged to Stolas' mother, Stella starts bidding as well so Stolas doesn't get it (context here is that Vassago got Stolas' diary from the auction so that he can give it to him, and the latter was there as well for a heist with Blitzø for the necklace). Stella, despite being told to not bid at her own auction by her brother since the point is to make money, not spend it, proceeds to keep bidding, despite the fact that she will lose money for something that she doesn't even want. It continues until it hits 100 million dollars from Vassago, where after covering his sisters mouth and restraining her, Andrealphus declares him the winner of the bid to make sure his sister doesn't bid any further.

Zuko (Avatar: the Last Airbender): A former fatal flaw of his. Before his major character development, every time he concocted a scheme to get the Avatar, it ends up with him getting into a mess he didn't account for, such as at the last episodes of Book 1 where he was able to get Aang while he was in the spirit world leaving his physical body behind. But when he makes his escape, he makes his way, in a blizzard, away from civilization. If Aang hadn't choose to save him, he would've froze to death. In the last episodes of Book 2, when he gets to Appa, who was captured by the Dai Li to string along the Gaang, his uncle, Iroh, was following him and and when he caught up, sarcastically asked his nephew if he's going to keep the sky bison in their new apartment with his uncle making Appa a pot of tea. Zuko answers that he needs to get Appa out of the prison first, leading to Iroh chewing out his nephew for not thinking things through and asking him if the destiny that he's chasing is one he chose for himself or one that is forced onto him. Here's the clip and aftermath.

Trevor Philips (Grand Theft Auto V): Dear god, it happens so much, so badly that it's a his fatal flaw of his. It is also too detailed to list here. Here's the link to his TV Tropes Page so you can read it yourself in the "Didn't think it through" section under the 0-D folder. You'd be surprised/reminded of how poorly thought out Trevor's schemes are.

Eddy (Ed, Edd, n Eddy): Also a Fatal Flaw of his. And it happens so many times it borders and sometimes crosses into "Too dumb to Live" territory. I mean, it'd probably be easier to count the episodes where Eddy did think it through, on one hand at most if ever. By the time the Finale movie comes around, it hits him harder than anything else, causing worsening tensions between him and his friends. To give an example, one episode has Eddy and Double D try and break Ed out of his house because he's grounded. Eddy's overall plan after getting Lumpy was get outside and book it. Yeah, how'd that turn out? It led to Double D and Eddy getting grounded. The latter was warned as such and strung the former along via guilt tripping.

Characters [Mixes Trope] Anthropology/Archaeology academic is met with Horror when they let their egos guide their work

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Anthropology and archaeology students and professors are constantly sticking their noses where they shouldn't resulting in horrific consequenses.

  • Midsommar (2019) - When Christian's manipulations fail to keep his deeply vulnerable girlfriend, Dani, (who he clearly dislikes) from coming on a trip to Sweden meant to primarily be for his friend Josh to research midsummer traditions in Europe for his Anthropology thesis, their other friend Mark, Josh (despite being far more aware of what is happening than the others and ignoring huge red flags in pursuit of material for his thesis), and ultimately Christian as well, are all murdered by their Swedish friend Pelle's rural community while Dani is indoctrinated into their cult and crowned the May Queen.
  • Candy Man (1992) - When Helen and her friend Bernadette decide to compete with other members of the Anthropology department by entering a notoriously dangerous Chicago project to hunt down and research the titular Candy Man, Helen begins to be haunted by him and framed for murders that he commits supernaturally, to the point that she is institutionalized. Even though Helen can't possibly have committed these murders, there is no evidence of Candy Man in video footage and after escaping the mental hospital, she ends up back at the projects in an attempt to save a baby kidnapped by Candy Man. Although she is able to save the child, and Candy Man is burned in a bonfire, Helen is also burned and sucumbs to her injuries and dies. The tenants of the project come to her funeral to honor her for getting the baby back and banishing Candy Man........ for now.
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) - In the generally least liked, but most horror coded installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, Indie survives multiple attempts on his life after doing contract work for a Shanghai crime boss. His lack of scrupples in regards to who he works for leads him, his sidekick Short Round, and nightclub singer Willie, to witness human sacrifices as well as being coerced into eating monkey brains, braving creepy crawlies, and generally just barely avoiding death as he and his companions try to escape the Temple of Doom.

Thumbnail

The snap (Avengers: Infinity War) Thanos actually gets all the infinity stones and succeeds in erasing half of all living life in the universe, including many of the heroes we know and love.

The Shibuya incident (Jujutsu Kaisen) Kenjaku succeeds in sealing Gojo, Nanami died, all of Shibuya is in ruins, millions of cursed spirits spread across the country and Kenjaku got his hands on idle transfiguration from absorbing Mahito after he reached his peak making him able to start the culling game.

The fall of Atlas (RWBY) The entirety of the city of Atlas just fell and drowned under water, Salem got two of the relics and Penny, Ironwood, Clover and Vine all died.

The fall of hero society (My Hero Academia) Endeavor's reputation just got permanently ruined by Dabi, heroes like Midnight and the number 6 hero died, Shigaraki erased a whole city, Aizawa basically lost his quirk, Gigantomachia destroyed 20 cities in the country at the same time and All For One and all the big supervillains got broken out of prison which all lead to the country becoming a lawless wasteland.

  1. Goku killing King Piccolo (Dragon Ball). When King Piccolo first wrought havoc on the world, he was sealed away by Master Mutaito with the Mafuba (Evil Containment Wave). Hundreds of years later, his seal is purposely broken and he breaks free, and proceeds to slaughter martial artists around the world to prevent anyone from challenging/sealing him away again. Master Roshi tries to use the Mafuba to stop him before he can gather the Dragon Balls, but fails with the technique and dies. After Piccolo conquers the world, Goku fights him (for a second time, since Piccolo beat him badly during their first encounter), and after a brutal battle, he punches through Picoolo’s torso to deliver the killing blow.

  2. Link killing Ganondorf (The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker). Ganon is pretty notorious for being sealed away after being defeated, coming back again hundreds of years later, then being beaten and sealed away again. In Wind Waker, though, when Link reaches Ganon and battles him (with help from Zelda), he finishes the fight by parrying one of Ganon’s strikes, leaping up, and plunging the Master Sword deep into the Demon King’s forehead. This kills him, rather than simply sealing him away once more.

Ellie (The Last of Us Part II): In her quest for revenge against Abby, Ellie brutally kills dozens of WLF soldiers, cultists, and dogs, leaving a massive trail of blood across Seattle. However, in the final fight, just as she is finally drowning Abby, she decides to spare her life in order to "break the cycle of violence."

Ezio Auditore (Assassin's Creed II): Over the course of two decades, Ezio stabs, poisons, and hurls from rooftops hundreds of Italian guards who were simply going about their duties. Yet, upon reaching the final chamber in the Vatican, he decides to spare the main villain, Rodrigo Borgia, the person directly responsible for his family's death, arguing that killing him "won't bring his family back."

Matt Murdock (Marvel's Daredevil): Spends years cracking skulls, fracturing spines, and leaving hundreds of street-level thugs with permanent brain damage or dead. Despite this daily brutality, he adamantly refuses to kill Wilson Fisk, claming "Im not the bad guy"

Characters Characters with an absurdly high or low IQ.

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

As a measure of intelligence, IQ is often considered somewhere from problematic to absurd. In fiction the absurdity is taken to new highs (and lows) by giving a character an incredibly IQ. Considering that the average IQ of the human race is 100, and a high IQ score, some fictional beings claim rather questionable scores.

Holly from Red Dwarf is an AI with the same IQ as 6000 P.E. teachers. 6000. Another computer claims that his IQ actually just 6, but that turns out to be Holly pranking the rest of the crew. There is some indication that after 4 million years in deep space, Holly has gone mad or senile.

Todo from Jujutsu Kaisen claimms to have an IQ of 53000, with no apparently supernatural basis. Most of that brain's processing power seems to be dedicated to bromance, and fantasizing about tall women with big butts. But he is a rather good tactician.

Alakazam has an IQ of 5000, according to the Pokedex. Although this is the same device that claims Magcargo is as hot as the surface of the sun and a 28 ft rock snake only weighs 200 KG, so maybe its information is not so reliable.

Holly from Red Dwarf is an AI, she has the same IQ as 12000 car park attendants.

Characters [Hated Trope] When adorable and bubbly characters get called children by the internet, despite being canonically adults

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Whenever there are characters that are all adorable, bubbly and sweet but being canonically adults, there are some idiots call them children for some reason

like Lanney from Gwain Saga

In Gwain Saga's official wiki page, her age is "18+", but in the show she's all adorable, bubbly and innocent. Basically being a bean character. Well, a bean character that will kick your ass. But i saw some idiots calling her child because of how she behaves. For fuck sakes, she even drank a beer and got so drunk she passed out.

And Emily from Hazbin Hotel

She's a seraphim, so she's obviously god knows how old, but by appearance, she's like in her 20's. She's so cute, sweet and energetic. And hell, She's even tall like Charlie, who's (approximately) 6'2". And a lot of haters called her a child and that whoever simps for her is a pedo.

Such judgment just looks like that only kids are allowed to be adorable and bubbly

Buddy the Unicorn - Throughout the film Buddy, the main antagonist becomes progressively more demented and evil, killing adults, kids and even other puppets out of rage, pragmatism or even just because he can at some points. However, at the end when Freddy manages to stab and kill him with Mr. Mailbox it seems like he's genuinely complimenting her for gaining the bravery to stand up against him at the end... only to spitefully and hilariously curse at her.

Roman Bridger - The mastermind behind Maureen Prescott's murder and ultimately the one who kickstarted the Scream series, Roman is Sidney's half-brother. After a brutal fight, Sidney stabs him in the heart. It seems like he and Sidney share their one moment of connection at the end as she holds his hand... and then he comes back for one last scare to try and kill her, Gale, and Dewey leading to the latter shooting him in the head and finally killing him.

Mass effect: the star child: technically theyre not a child but a super intelligence that waits to see if organics can evolve to the point of getting on with non organics. However the threat in mass effect is a super intelligence focused on mass destruction the star child feels irrelevant

In which a character lies but it turns out it's the truth.

  1. In one Batman comic a mercenary rescues a kid from rubble. The kid asks if Batman sent them and not wanting to dissapoint the kid they lie and say yes. Turns out Bruce Wayne hired them for this rescue work.

  2. Papyrus, skeleton man from Undertale gets word that a dangerous fighter named Undyne is chasing you. You have the option of changing up your outfit but no matter what you wear Papyrus calls you telling you that he lied and gave the wrong description of your appearance to Undyne. Said description will always be accurate by accident.

  3. Unpictured and frankly not so loved real life example: some people call others gay as an insult but very rarely actually mean it. For the sake of this post said person who was insulted is literally gay.

Characters [Bittersweet Trope] A group of heroes sacrifice themselves for a world that will never learn of or remember them.

• Upvotes
In Elden Ring's greater lore, there was an civil war known as the Shattering. Nightreign takes place in an alternate weird timeline/loop where the events of the Shattering drew the attention of the Night, a living cataclysm that seeks to destroy all that exists. To stop it, a group of warriors known as the Nightfarers band together to stop the Night. Upon destroying the Primordial Nightlord, the main avatar and embodiment of the Night, the timeline "resets" to a time where the Night never came. This creates a sort of alternative timeline/loop where the Nightfarers are trapped in a forever war against the Night so the rest of the world can continue existing without the Night ever interfering.
Credit goes to DarkCloud on Youtube. I LITERALLY couldn't find any other videos of this cinematic. Final Fantasy Dissidia is basically a hodgepodge of popular FF characters coming together to fight against the forces of Chaos." However, every batch of heroes comes in "cycles," with each new cycle consisting of both new and old heroes. The 12th Cycle consisted of characters like Kain, Gilgamesh, Tifa Lockhart, Yuna, and Lightning. Sadly, the 12th Cycle sacrifices themselves to protect the next Cycle at the cost of never being able to be resurrected in future cycles. Save for Cosmos, the goddess of Harmony, nobody ever remembers or references these characters meaning nobody knows of their sacrifice.
