Should I frog? Rookie mistake - is this salvageable or should I frog - again.

• Upvotes

Picture is in comments (sorry)

Let’s just get it out of the way - yes, I should’ve made a bigger swatch to realize that the stitches would get so tall (or something) I don’t really know.

I started the project Hail Mary cardigan with only a graph to my aid and maybe it was a dumb first project.

Now I have one front panel done and one almost done and I realized that the are very very long.

I started the project with a smaller needle but I felt like the width wasn’t enough so I dozed up not realizing/thinking that they would also be longer.

Can I save these panels somehow? I wanted it kinda bulky oversized but i dingy want it down to my knees and I haven’t even done the ribbing yet and it’s already 87cm and I’m only 163 cm so it’s way to long.

Should I maybe keep the bottom and the fox and try to reduce the rows from armpit to shoulder?

Any suggestions are helpful!

Help! Using Other Stitches with the Ten-stitch Construction Method for Blankets

Hi all,

I’m in the process of making a ten-stitch blanket and I’m loving the process! It’s super nice to be able to make something without having to worry about always making long rows.

Anyway, my question is: have any of you made a “ten-stitch” blanket using other stitches? I want to use other stitches butwasn’t sure if that wouldwork. I was thinking of using the Honeycombstitch when making the middle sections, and doing simple stitch for the mitered corners. Has anyone done this before or is this even possible?

Help! Tips for incredibly fine yarn?

I was off somewhere else on Reddit, talking about the ridiculous amount of unbrushed lace mohair I have left over from another project and what to do with it. The idea of Tunisian Crochet was floated, and it sounded like a great idea! This yarn would make an incredible, drapey throw blanket in TSS at a loose gauge.

The problem is that I'm having a really hard time working with it, as I can't see the stitches. It's a somewhat loosely plied 2ply, and it's incredibly fine at 40 WPI. I'm working with a 4mm hook and the stitches don't have enough structure to hold themselves up, making it hard to figure out where to pick up from. To add to my torture, it's med-dark brown in colour lol

Am I doomed to suffer the consequences of my choices, or is there a trick to working with soft, fine yarn at this gauge?

All in all, I’m pretty happy with how this came out. Early on I decided to let the color transitions in the body land where they fell. Now I wish I had managed them better as I did in the sleeves. Made this for my very slim beloved daughter in law. I hope she likes it. This is the Diamond Not Pearls pattern and the yarn is Yarn Art Flowers in the colorway 264.

Question What would you do with 100g of handspun silk?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I recently found these two cakes of handspun silk that I received as a gift a few years ago. There’s 100 g total split into two cakes one is cream and the other one is cream with a slight pink rosey tinge to it. It’s super soft and also quite thick thin with slubs and some very thin sections as well as thicker sections of the yarn. No yardage on it but each cake is about 50g.

My initial impulse was to knit some kind of light and not very large scarf with it in something quite simple like a mixture of stocking stitch and garter stitch. However, I’m a bit obsessed with Tunisian crochet at the moment so I was wondering what the Internet thought I should do with such lovely yarn.

I think the main challenge with this yarn is how much it varies in thickness, which I wonder how it will end up looking Tunisian crochet. I think given that a stitch pattern that is easy to work and not too complex would be good to help the character of the yarn shine.

Here are my ideas:
– alternating rose of TSS and TPS, which I found quite a nice gentle undulating texture when I watched it in some other yarn, sort of like a very soft garter stitch
– working in ETKS which my stitch dictionary I bought calls corded stitch

Would love to hear your thoughts about what I should do with this yarn!

Work in Progress How’s this looking? Am I doing it right?

I watched one video tutorial on Tunisian crochet and decided it would be perfect for a blanket. I’m a little unsure on my edges and if I’m doing them right. Does it look okay? (Please remove this post if it’s not allowed!)

Work in Progress My 1st attempt at socks!

Post image
146 Upvotes

These are my first attempt at socks, ever (Tunisian, traditional crochet, or knit), and I am super excited about them!! They are about 90% done, and I most definitely learned a lot while making them. These aren't blocked yet, so I am hoping that will help flatten them out & shape them up a bit.

This version of the recipe didn't call for ribbing at the top, but I felt like they needed a little something to fit a bit tighter against my leg. These were made using the Tunisian knit stitch & the next pair I plan on making will be the same pattern, but using the Tunisian simple stitch. While I did use superwash merino wool/nylon sock yarn, these did come out kind of thick, but the inside texture feels so nice on my feet.

I would also like to thank the person who posed the question in this forum ~6ish weeks ago, asking if there are Tunisian crochet patterns for socks that don't turn out as lumpy and bumpy on the inside as traditional crochet socks. That question sent me down a loooong, dark rabbit hole until I eventually found this recipe. This pattern is also the perfect way to use up extra blumps of old yarn, which, IMHO, only makes them cuter & totally justifies buying the pattern! lol!

For anyone interested, I found the pattern on Ravelry at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/funny-tunisian-socks-tunisian-crochet

Work in Progress Found my increase technique! The back loop of the return pass!

Post image
71 Upvotes

Yes, it's green instead of black. Someone with a lot of experience in yarn crafts pointed out I'm trying to see what I'm doing in the darkest yarn around, and strongly advised I switch to something far easier to read the stitches in. Hence the green yarn.

Anyway, I realized that the bumps on the back of the captive chain that is the return pass have just one bump on the back of the stitch in the middle of the double-increase, so here I'm pulling a stitch out of it twice, one on each side of the central stitch.

There's practically no holes, the stitches are very well-defined (with the center stitch even being a continuous line all the way up!), and it's still a very sharp corner! Absolutely what I'm looking for! =^.^=

Reminder, this is Lion Brand "Pound of Love" yarn, this time in Wintergreen. And this is yet another test swatch for my Star Trek: Lower Decks uniform cardigan project. I started the mitred square (the part on the right half of the pictured swatch) on the bottom corner of the left panel, and the bottom corner started with three rows of invisible increases, in pretty much every stitch in each row (save the leftmost stitch, to mirror the right edge of each row), to ensure it expands fast enough. Then I found the middle stitch (more like made one) and started doing my double-increase the rest of the way out.

The next step in this test swatch will be the second rectangular panel, which starts at the bottom of the left panel and goes downwards from this perspective, but also attaches to the bottom edge of the mitred square on the right. Then try it on my shoulder and see what happens!

It's a two-row repeat on a 9 mm hook, which is why it worked up so fast. The twisted fringe is added with a smaller hook. I think I used a 5 mm for that. The yarn has a blown chainette structure and the tube is slightly shiny, which makes the stitches sparkle a bit.

Help! Help with boarder

Post image

finished my simple stitch throw. Made by linking panels of twenty stitches. added a single crocheted border. still curled. added a second sc board and a moss stitch. instead of uncurling. it just bends exactly where my simple stitch ends and sc crochet starts.

would blocking work or would it just bend again after use?

yarn is pure acrylic.

Work in Progress My cardigan's shoulder: Dang, stopped the increases too early...

Post image
17 Upvotes

So, my heart is really set on an ultra sharp corner on the mitred square that forms the outside edge of my cardigan's shoulder. Using two invisible increases didn't get me the sharp point I was hoping for, so I'm back to the drawing board again.

As I'd mentioned previously, my first attempt was to make my first stitch, do a twisted yarn-over (in an attempt to hide the hole a regular yarn-over might make), then make the third stitch in the same stitch in the previous row that the first stitch was in. This stretched the previous row's stitch that the first and third stitches were hooked into, making it disappear.

This time, I'd left the first two steps the same, but putting the third stitch into the first stitch, on the same row this time. Essentially, trying to pull the stitch out of its "foot". Not sure that worked.

Also, since I'd made this test much taller than last time (turns out, the black caps across the shoulders on the Lower Decks uniforms goes way lower than the TNG-era ones), I'd been worried that the mitred square's constant increases would be too much, and added matching decreases on the last four to six rows. Turns out, my shoulders are far more round than that, so there's a good chance I'll have to wait on slowing down the increases until after the white stripe. Good to know!

I think I'll try playing around with the order the stitches are made into the previous row's stitch. There ought to be some way to get an extremely sharp corner and get all the stitches to show up properly, right?

Hooks Straight Non-Cable Hooks?

Anyone have a recommendation on straight non-cable tunisian crochet hooks? I'm not worried about price and am okay splurging for quality and less frustration 😅 also prefer pointier head to catch stitches easier. They seem to be harder to find than the interchangeable hooks.

Anyone have any go-to favourites? Bonus if they're available in Canada!

Work in Progress Tunisian Mosaic Crochet Coat

Thumbnail

I'm working on this tunisian mosaic crochet coat. It's knee length. The yarn is Ice yarns bulky alpaca with an 8mm hook. body is top down with inset pockets.

Sleeve is in the round tunisian mosaic crochet with multiple colors. This took a while for me to iron out how to do it. There isn't a lot of information out there.

I have to make another sleeve and then a hood. I also made it one big tube, so, if I wear it, I have to walk like Mortitia Adams. Instead, I'm going to steek the sides and put a triangle of ribbing in there.

The coat pattern is original and the mosaic pattern isn't from anything I've see - but I don't think there can be too many original designs like this. Somebody probably has made it before.

Tutorials This free ZigZag Tunisian scarf has so much going for it!

And it's free on the KnitterKnotter website. Richard Gartland designed it, and the texture, even without color changes, made this one of my favs...another one I gifted, but need to make for myself. It IS going to get cold, right? 😁

But even those in the Southern hemisphere, or warmer climes, could do this in a linen cotton or linen silk blend, in a light weight yarn, for a gorgeous wrap!

Happy Hooking! https://knitterknotter.com/zig-zag-tunisian-purl-scarf-free-pattern/?
