We all just progressively hate Walter White as the show continued... right?

What a horrible piece of garbage egotistical human. I'm watching the show again, and am on season five, and Walt has just progressively become such an annoying villain to watch, especially in contrast to Jessie.

I hate how much he lies, and how blatant of a liar he is.

Edit: I’m talking about the character, and his motivations and behavior - not the actor.

And, don’t get stuck on the word “hate”. His character and his lack of empathy, and continued brazen “out of control” egomaniac nature is very disturbing. He is ruining the lives of so many, lie after confident lie.

As a chemical H&S warden for my workplace lab, this shot made me gasp

Post image

Hydrofluoric acid is considered a highly hazardous chemical due to its powerful corrosive properties seen in the show, and a small drop on the skin can potentially cause lethal fluorine poisoning. As a result, labs tend to only keep stores of HF if it is necessary for their work. Special storage and use procedures are also required under many laws to reduce accidental exposure.

A high school chemistry department would have no reason to have any amount of HF on hand, let alone several large bottles. Not to mention the storage shown, on an open shelf with a variety of other chemicals not being compliant (perhaps chemical safety regulations in AQ at the time were lax).

(Also note the typo “hydroflouric” lol)

So why did Gus do that to Victor? Spoiler

Didn't want to put the spoiler in the title. But do we know specifically why Gus killed Victor? Because he showed his face at the crime scene to commoners? Because he started cooking without authorization? Both? Something else? Doing a rewatch now and in season 4, not sure if it gets totally spelled out. Seems also clear that Gus wanted to do it to make an example and to scare Walt and Jesse, hoping that would help keep them in line. Obvious failure there.

Hanks Gun Etiquette S01E01

Has anyone noticed Hanks awful gun etiquette at Walts birthday party? Pointing a gun around a party with his finger near/on the trigger and a bullet in the chamber?

My wife thinks this may be intentional to show his character as reckless/ careless but I am trying to explain to her how egregious this behaviour is. It quite disillusioning to see someone thats supposed to be a trained firearm professional act this way.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I cannot stress enough to those that may not be super gun literate how extreme his behaviour is. It's basically one step down from just actually just holding the gun to someone's head as a gag.

Walt’s best moment

I think, even after all of the buildup and Walt transforming into Heisenberg and making all those millions, when he was at his peak as a criminal mastermind was the finale. He tricked his way into getting Gretchen and Elliot’s address and scared them into laundering his money with LASER POINTERS. He, in a 5 minute meeting managed to slip ricin into Lydia’s coffee. He rigged up a contraption to kill 7 nazis without touching the trigger. He was completely fearless and confident throughout the whole episode, and everything went the way he planned it other than deciding to spare Jesse. He made face to face contact with multiple people, many of which knew him personally, without a single worry of being caught.

Throughout the show he was a kingpin, a genius, the greatest mind the meth trade has ever seen, but he was never that cunning. He was clumsy, he was impulsive, he was stupid and he wasn’t confident. The finale showed not Heisenberg, but Walter White, who finally accomplished his only goal: to provide his family money in his absence. His highest point was when he was at his lowest.

Crazy 8's accent (best accent in the world)

I think the accent of the Crazy 8 character is my all-time favorite accent (of someone speaking English or any other language).

I know how very detailed the show creators were about most everything. Is that really a typical ABQ accent? Is there a name for it? I know it's a Hispanic accent of some kind, but there are so many. The character seemed to be clearly an American.

This might be a dumb question, but I really like learning about different accents. (I have watched a number of those videos of people from other countries reacting to different US accents.)

I know there is a huge, huge variety of accents and we don't have names for every little variety. I live in Minnesota and we have multiple accents. It's not as distinct now, but decades ago, I could often guess if someone had grown up on the St. Paul or Minneapolis side of Twin Cities (if they had lived there all their lives). I could often guess if someone grew up in the North End of St. Paul versus other parts of St. Paul. And then there is the SW Minnesota accent which is very different to my ears. But there are no names for any of these. I've never seen any show that captures these differences at all (and wouldn't expect it). Either they have a generic Midwest accent or a really exaggerated stereotypical MN accent.

I really don't know how deep they went with accents in BB.

What’s the smallest thing that would’ve changed it all? I’ll start…

If Gale Boetticher heard the phone when Mike tried to warn him he was about to be killed, Walt would’ve lost his—ermm…”job security”, and would’ve been killed.

It could have had potential. Imagine, 40 minutes of these characters searching for places, stuck in traffic, then some pesky argument between Walt and Mike (and maybe Saul) happens.

Series finale question Spoiler

How did Walter put the ricin inside Lydia's Stevia?

Walter would've literally have needed to open the package to put the ricin on it. My thoughts are that he either somehow fabricated that very same Stevia package or maybe he DID open the Stevia package and somehow was able to close it back very perfectly

Walter white glazing post..

Every good deed Walt committed played a part in why people still loved him and rooted for him until the very end. Yes, he became a terrible person, especially after entering the drug business, and he kept getting worse as the story progressed. But he never completely lost his humanity, and we saw enough good in him to understand why people still cared about him despite everything he did.

Here are some of the reasons people continued to root for Walt

- He initially got into the drug business to provide for his family and secure their financial future after learning he had cancer.

- He helped cover Hank's treatment costs after the accident, making sure his brotheinlaw received the medical care he needed.

- He saved Jesse's life by killing Gus's dealers after they used Tomas to kill Combo. Walt knew this would put him directly at odds with Gus and potentially danger his life , but he still intervened to protect Jesse.

- He was a loving father and, at least in many ways, a loving husband, despite the darkness of his criminal activities outside the family.

- He continued to love and support Skyler even after her infidelity with Ted and her decision to give their money to Beneke. He was hurt and angry, but he didn't stop caring about her.

- He bought Walter Jr. his dream cars because he wanted to make his son happy. He wanted the best life for the family.

- When the Nazis threatened Hank, Walt offered them virtually all his money in exchange for Hank's life. He was willing to sacrifice the fortune he had spent years building to save a man who was actively trying to put him behind bars

- He tried to keep his family financially secure, even after everything fell apart. In the finale, he arranged for Gretchen and Elliott to pass his remaining money to Walter Jr. through a charitable contribution, knowing his son would otherwise refuse it.

- He eventually stopped pretending that everything he did was purely for his family. When he spoke to Skyler in the finale, he admitted that he had done it for himself because he enjoyed it and felt alive. I respect that

- He gave Skyler the information she needed to negotiate with the authorities by revealing the location of Hank and Gomez's bodies, even though it meant acknowledging the consequences of his actions.

- He returned to Albuquerque knowing he was dying and that the police were closing in on him. He could have simply disappeared and spent his remaining time hiding, but he chose to settle unfinished business.

- He went after the Nazis, avenged Hank, and destroyed the gang that had taken over his operation.

- He freed Jesse from enslavement at the Nazi compound. Despite Jesse betraying him, cooperating with Hank, and helping bring about his downfall, Walt still chose to save him.

- He ultimately allowed Jesse to leave rather than killing him. After everything they had done to each other, Walt gave Jesse the opportunity to walk away and start a new life

None of this erases the terrible things Walt did or excuses the lives he destroyed But pretending Walt never did anything good is just as dishonest as pretending he was a good man throughout the entire series. He was a deeply flawed character who became increasingly monstrous, yet still had moments of genuine love, loyalty and humanity.

Was it really in character for Jesse to blow the RV cash?

To me it feels not. The events happened in the pilot. Jesse basically almost got caught and Walt is semi blackmailing him, telling Jesse the $7K was the last of his savings... And in S03E05 we're shown a flashback burning it all at a strip club. IMO unnecessary and most of all out of character.

Season 1 question Spoiler

• Upvotes

Who is to blame for the dissolving of the bathtub?

Frankly I'd say Jesse is mostly at fault because he was the one who decided to ignore Walter's order about a plastic container but also a little bit of Walter's because he didn't even tell him what the plastic container was for. Also Jesse probably doesn't remember literally everything he was taught

Also in real life the dead body would've taken much longer to get dissolved and wouldn't have dissolved completely and the acid would've been unable to destroy the bathtub in real life. The MythBusters proved it

Thinking of rewatching..

I first watched the show in early 2023 and it took me about three months to finish it and I loved it. I keep seeing videos and Memes about breaking bad online again and I’m thinking of re-watching since it’s been three years. Do you guys think I should rewatch or wait a little longer?

Watching Better call Saul before breaking bad….. I get it

Watched a movie recently that ABSOLUTELY blew my mind away, it’s called “you can see everything” however this movie has a prologue tv show called “the dropout” and EVERYONE told me to watch the dropout (equivalent of BCS) first…. These two projects have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with each other (if I explain why it’s technically a spoiler but if you ask in the comments I’ll tell you).

It’s kinda like the hulk 2003 and the Incredible Hulk…. It’s the exact same idea and characters, but I never understood why someone would watch better call Saul before breaking bad… But I get it now!

Who else didn't buy Walt's lie in this scene? Spoiler

Post image

Everytime I watch a video of someone reacting to the end of season 4, they get all surprised at the reveal that Walt poisoned Brock. However, I didn't feel any of that... Walt's manipulation was pretty on the nose for me, and the end of seaon 4 was, for me, just the nail on the coffin of admitting Walt is a POS. Not even the scene with him and Jesse shaking hands sold me it couldn't be him who caused this
