Question Chickens digging holes?
Hi I was at a farm yesterday, and visited their chicken coop area. What I saw was interesting! I’ve never seen this behaviour of chickens digging down into the dirt and then laying in the hole. Is this a normal behaviour? Is this only a certain breed of chicken that does this? Will they lay eggs in the hole?
Thanks!

Question I was wondering what this is. It followed me into my house and is very friendly. I’m not sure if it’s a chicken.

Question Why does she look like that??
Pic 1 and 2 are today, 3 and 4 are March. She had a really rough molt (I think) in March/April, and it’s just gotten progressively worse.
Why does she look like an abomination??
She’s on layer feed, baked egg shells and flaked oyster shells available for protein, they get black soldier fly larvae in the mornings. Random veggie scraps as well, all chicken safe.
The only other thing I can think of is she did bang up her wings pretty bad in March or April trying to get to a top nest box. I have since put up a ramp for her there. She can’t fly or jump, never has. Super anxious personality, always been pretty weird in general like she will pace the runs for a couple hours each evening before roosting and repetitively walks into the hardware mesh. All around a very “off” chicken.
Polish frizzle
Eating drinking pooping normally.
Any ideas? She’s the only one having these problems and they’ve gotten a clean bill of health from the vet this year. At a loss. I guess it’s fine if she’s just /like that/ but I want to make sure she’s good

Question Help! Wife failed Chicken Math last year, now we have a problem
This is the amount of eggs from about 20 hens in a week. We have a large family and eat a lot of eggs, but have recently just started getting an excess for the first time in a year. Now we have 50+ more chicks growing that we hatched, with more in the way. Help! (I love my wife)

Question Is my egg supplier fooling me?
Let me start by saying I am only skeptical of “farm fresh” eggs now because I was buying from the Amish where I used to live for awhile & when I made the remark “wow you must have a lot of chickens” to the little Amish boy selling me the eggs he replied “no, my mom picks these up from Aldi!”.
I actually prefer when people don’t wash the eggs because then I know for sure they are coming from someone’s backyard.
I recently moved and the only place that consistently has eggs, also sells duck eggs and they are unwashed but the chicken eggs are always very clean. I can’t help but feel like I’m getting scammed again and they are just putting these brown store eggs in mix match cartons.
Thoughts from people who own chickens, how do these eggs look?

Question Why does my chicken have what looks like a wire coming out of her wing?
I presume it is a feather with a very long shaft… I have never seen such a thing before. Is this some genetic mutation? Does anyone else have a chicken like this? It is just one feather!

Question What is this??
This was on my chicken's freshly laid egg. And when I say fresh, I mean she was over it and it was still wet when I got it. It's not moving but I haven't seen this before, wondering if I should be concerned.

Question Why does my chicken love coming inside so much?
She will sometimes just come up to the back door and knock with her beak and stand there. I open the door and she will just push straight past. She doesn't really do anything except for just walk around and explore different rooms. Even if I put her outside again she will just follow me back in.

Question Why do my chickens keep jumping on my shoulder?
I have around 4 chickens who love jumping on my shoulder and 2 of my roosters and i wondered if theres a specific reason as to why they do this? They will literally sit on my shoulder/back and rest on it. Its so cute. I only have a few pictures of them doing this but these are the ones i could find

Question Anybody have an unusually sweet and personable chicken who wants to brave the danger?
I have 30 chickens and Scump is the sweetest and smartest of the batch, all around more cognizant. She's a certified defender of the bullied and has even stood up to our English bulldog and full sized rooster when she thought they were a danger to the flock(They aren't but she didn't know that). She looks in the places that others don't, she will get into places where all the others can't, and seems to be more observant than even my experienced roosters. Her only downfall is she will forever be cursed in size, have her own places to be, and always at risk of predators if let out to truly free range like the others... that, mixed with her desire to fight off anything that she might perceive as a danger to say... my Jersey Giants... No matter the size of it, just really puts her in a bad spot. Does anyone have any ideas on a solution? I got some chicken diapers and have thought about making her into a house chicken, I work from home so she gets many hours of supervised free range time per day but she will start screaming when I poke my head out of my office and she feels like shes been in the run for too long with some of the others. I avoid poking my head out because her little cries kill me.

Question We had a broody hen, but no roosters at the time. So I told my wife to go buy some eggs. Why is it that women always buy the strangest-looking hens imaginable?
Naked-neck Silkies, and one looks like a Frizzle. Why does this even exist, haha?

Question How easy is it to introduce ducks to a chicken flock?
Asking more experienced chicken/duck owners, have you ever brought chickens into the flock? How easy is it for them to get along, and how do I know the chickens are being friendly?
Our rooster is very nice if that helps, he’s friendly to me and my dog even though we recently got him from someone else, so not mean to new things.
They got loud for a bit then seem to have lost interest-

Question What are your chickens' names?
I'm creating a chicken farm game, and on each chicken's profile you can see its name and city. I'd like them to be real names, like actual chickens.
If you'd like, please tell me your chickens' names in the comments, and if you'd like, their city (optional). I'll compile the information.
For example:
Mia, Juana, Virgi. New York
Jany. Miami
I'm aiming for a PEGI 3 rating for the game, so please use child-friendly names.
Thank you very much!
EDIT: I made a final sprint and couldn't thank everyone individually.
Thank you to everyone who shared names and stories, many of them really lovely. I have 2,840 real chicken names. It's fantastic! I'll keep adding if anyone wants to participate, but I have more than enough.

Question I have a roo but can’t tell who it is
As the title suggests I think I have a roo but they all look like hens to me, unless it’s a hen taking that male roll and crowing lmao. I just have three birds but two mornings in a row I have heard one of them crowing. Then when I go and try to catch them in the act they all stare at me like I’m the one who just crowed.
Do you guys think any of these are a roo?! They’re about 4 months old and I can’t have a rooster where we live so I don’t want to piss the neighborhood off.

I found these two in Forza Horizon 5 after playing for 30 hours. I guess they must be pretty rare to see in the game but they made me happy

Question My hen sings to the other chickens, is this just a display of affection?
We rescued this little hen and she makes these long singing chirps often towards the other chickens, here she’s doing it while nuzzling our rooster. I’ve never heard a chicken make these noises before is it just her way of speaking?
