Admissions Wants Final Fall Grades Before Making Decision. Is This Normal?

Has anyone had GMU wait for final semester grades before making a transfer admissions decision?

I applied for Spring transfer with a 3.4 GPA. Admissions told me they want to see my final Fall grades before making a decision.

I’m only taking 1 class. My final grade won’t be available until mid to late December. Then there are the holidays, so I’m not sure when they’d get around to reviewing my application. Does that even give me enough time to accept and register for classes :-/

I’m trying to figure out if this is common for transfer applicants or if it means they’re on the fence about admitting me. Has anyone else experienced this?

Athletics GMU Basketball sporting events start next week (Unique thing to do + Meet new people)

With the new basketball season coming up, figured I’d bring it up here.

Lowkey feel like GMU men's AND women's basketball games should be a bigger thing on campus. We’ve got a whole student section, and it’d be nice to see more people pulling up, bringing friends, and making the games more fun.

The season’s coming up, so this is your sign to catch a game or two this year instead of just going to class and heading straight home lol.

Even if you’re not a huge basketball fan, going to a game with friends is a pretty solid way to spend an evening on campus. The atmosphere is always better when students actually show up, stand up, and cheer loudly. Going to games is a unique thing to do with your friends/ student organization, and it's a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Both Men's and Women's teams are championship level this year, so expect to see high level play from both squads

Tickets are FREE for students, just bring your Mason ID card

Women's basketball schedule: https://gomason.com/sports/womens-basketball/schedule

Anyone planning on going to games this season?

UPDATE: I think I got them all. Just waiting on my access to the drive folder to be authorized. Thank you all s2

desperate needs call for desperate actions. I am still in my syllabus hunt to validate my degree overseas. I've made a lot of progress, but I'm stuck in four courses.

If you get me all three, I will venmo you 45 dollars. if you get me one, two, or three, I'll pay 10dol for each. just send me a dm if you get them.

They can be from any semester as long as they are from 2018-2026 range. I really appreciate it.

Rant Why is it always some freaks in front of Horizon 😭

Developing a new GMU ontology that if your group tries to talk to people in front of JC you're probably cool and if you try to talk to people outside of Fenwick/Horizon you're probably a freak. IDK why this has been so true in my experience.

Rant i see why theres so many commuters. the dorms are absolutely terrible

im not going to lie, when i came to mason i wanted to believe that the dorms were going to be fine, i mean im not expecting pure excellence for a college campus dorm, but definitely wasnt expecting mold in the AC unit, in the bathroom, in the corners of the room. i have eczema, and my ezcema has never flared up as bad as it did when im here. my desks were full of mold, and i called maintenance and they acted so annoyed about it, then proceeded to only scrub it with soap and water and left mold for me and my mother to clean up. the mold is still bad its even on the roof, theres a rat downstairs, my dorm has leaked because of a bad storm. how does this school expect to have more people who want to live on campus when the dorms are utterly terrible. i totally see why theres so many commuters and how they cant wait to get up off this campus. this is terrible.

Rant This is your reminder that you pay to be here. Act like it.

Your advisor fucked up your credits? Go to the dean instead of sucking it up. You pay to be here.

Your professor has a stick up their ass and gives you attitude for no reason? Report it. You pay to be here.

The class doesn't make sense and you feel lost? Ask your professor for help or go to a tutoring center. You pay to be here.

Mentally going through it? CAPS (kinda ass ngl but it's better than nothing). You pay to be here.

Don't just take the L and move on. My advisor fucked up my credits big time and I would've had to stay an extra year. Went to the dean, threw a fit, and now I'm graduating on time.

A professor was making me feel stupid and basically laughing at me for asking a dumb question bc God forbid a person doesn't understand the content. Reported him to the head of the department and the week after I got an apology from him.

So yeah, you pay to be here. Act like it.

Academics Thoughts on PSYC 372 Biopsychology

I'll be taking it next semester and I just want psych majors opinions on the class. I'm planning on in-person, but I am open to hearing about async experiences as well. I won't be doing 373 which is the lab, but I have heard from those that I've asked already is that it's content heavy compared to BIOL 103 and such.

Rant GMU chem department sucks and Professor Kamara is no exception

Post image
120 Upvotes

Basically above. I’m a sophomore kinesiology major who just needs to do chem 1 + 2 plus labs. But dammit Professor Kamara is so inconsistent and strict! The analysis’s the dude creates will mark you wrong even when you get it right. Blud literally kicked me out when one if my lab papers fell out. And just now Kamara basically said screw you when I emailed him a photo I forgot to put in my conclusion. I have a C+ in the lab and will most likely pass, but dammit dude you’re being a thorn in my side more than anything. I’m legit having gray hairs now due to the stress of this whole semester!!!

Edit: well this blew up. Anyways I submitted my conclusion yesterday at noon, emailed him at 2, got the response at 6. The conclusion was due today at 11:30

Academics Struggling with physics 243

Any tips on how to do good in this class. I have Joshua Mattes , I try to use the textbook examples , but I still seem to struggle with the questions when I try to do them on my own. I struggled with the same thing on chemistry but at least I had stuff like the organic chemistry tutor and class slides that covered everything with the Alex textbook that made the class more manageable. For physics , it doesn't matter how many videos I watch or what I do It feels like I either get it or don't get it , no in between.

Academics Experience with Rachel Cleaver/Aimee Weinstein for HNRS 260?

Deciding whether to take HNRS 260 with Rachel Cleaver or Aimee Weinstein but I can't find anything for Prof Cleaver on rmp. Prof Weinstein's reviews look to be mixed, so I was wondering if anyone who has taken either professor before is willing to share insights.

Academics Honors college process

Does anyone know how the general process of the honors college works? I applied as a current Mason student before their October 14th deadline and I was wondering if their admissions were rolling meaning there’s not a specific time where they will release decisions only when they have slots?

I know it is pretty early and it would likely take a couple of weeks but I was just wondering as registration opens up soon and I wanted to know if they will post a decision before the semester ends or if it would have to be after the grades for this semester are posted
