The new iPad mini moves its front camera to the landscape edge, which means it sits awkwardly on the side when the device is held in portrait. For a small tablet that many people naturally use in portrait, this feels like another poor Apple decision.
Sometimes it feels as if Apple intentionally leaves one obvious thing out so people keep wishing for the next version. I am a longtime 13-inch iPad Pro user and use my iPad throughout almost every day, but I absolutely hate the front-camera placement and rarely use it for FaceTime. Apple could have kept a portrait-oriented camera or added a second front camera for portrait use. Instead, it saves the cost while the device remains expensive.
My biggest frustration on the iPadOS side is still the removal of the classic Slide Over and Split View experience from iPadOS 18. I have no interest in the newer windowing system, just as I never used Stage Manager. Apple should bring the old multitasking system back as an option instead of forcing everyone into desktop-style windows.
Does anyone else prefer the old camera placement and the classic Slide Over/Split View system?
