My Constitutional Law prof likes misogynistic comments on his own Substack

He is tenured, writes a truly insufferable [blog](https://substack.com/@ecantu), and then lectures his class about free speech when people complained.

Just venting. Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place, I just hate being even tangentially associated with this person.

To those who do well in these interviews, please drop your tips!

I have been interviewing for post-grad positions. However, I am not a good interviewer no matter how much I prepare. I recently had an interview for MY DREAM JOB, and I couldn't answer the most simple question of them all. Literally a softball for me! So I totally bombed it! I will forever be mad at myself for this.

So, do you all have any interview tips?

Why is there no consideration in Alaska Packers Ass’n v. Domenico?

In my contracts class we just went through Alaska Packers Ass’n v. Domenico and it seems to be that the main takeaway is that the contract alteration lacked consideration. I don’t see how that’s the case though, it feels like what’s really at issue is that the defendants were under duress.

Under the bargain theory of consideration, it was to my understanding, that we need reciprocal conventional inducement for there to be consideration. Under the bargain theory then, there should be consideration. There was an agreement, where there was reciprocal inducement. It’s just the case that the defendants REALLY needed the plaintiffs to perform, and that played a part in their inducement.

SO, am I missing something? Or is it the case that there was consideration, but the court just had an issue with the contract alteration being made semi “under duress?”

You think these in-class hypos are ridiculous until you get a real case that’s literally “a spurned lover/chemist puts potassium dichromate in a woman’s mailbox. Can she be tried under an anti-chemical-warfare treaty implementation statute?”

How to answer a "why litigation" question in a job interview?

Hey guys, prepping for job interviews, and I've expressed interest in litigation work to the firms I'm going for.

Needless to say everyone needs a personal answer to this. But I'm interested to see how others have phrased their interest in litigation.

For me, litigation seems interesting for a couple of reasons:

1) less "cookie-cutter" style work than transactional-side lawyers
2) the work seems to align with my strengths: long hours spent writing, digging deep on legal research, and my personality seems to get me really invested in some tedious areas of the law if I have to work on it. Also, I think I would emphasize my management experience to show I can adapt on the fly, stay on top of deadlines, and generally be a good communicator.

I know this is all very case-specific. But I'd be interested to hear how you approached this question. Thanks!

Asking for a Second Offer Extension

I need advice on how to handle this. I got an offer with firm A last Tuesday out of shock, the callback was skipped and had an offer right in my inbox. I like the firm, the work is ok and I can tolerate it, but I’m currently in interviews with my dream firm with more access to transitional work that I could see myself doing until the end. Original offer deadline was last Friday and I got an extension to this Friday. I told my dream firm and they rushed to get me into the final callback last Friday but did not confirm or deny the fact of meeting the timeline.

I am worried that my dream firm won’t make a decision in time. Does it look bad asking for a second offer extension? And what would you do in my situation?

What is the purpose of being part of a law review?

Are the students looking to be a lawyer or theorize about the law instead? Will being on a law review make someone a better personal injury, estate or assistant city attorney?

Can academic improvement outweigh weaker earlier grades, or will they keep holding me back?

Hello everyone,

For context, I am a Masters student in the US and I previously graduated from a first class Bachelor of Laws from London. My first and second year was very rocky. I had to work really hard to salvage my grades during my last year. I managed to do so with a Prize in evidence law and a scholarship for my masters in USA.

I recently contacted a us recruiter for a law firm which directed to me to an associate position. I am scared shitless that my grades from my first and last year will ruin this for me.

I just took my midterms. Overall, I am fine. Most modules I am 85%+ but I scored 68% in my Business Association mcq. I can't imagine telling the recruiter that I am interested in corporate and showing them this grade.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone has some insights to share since I do not master the US legal market. Thank you so much.

It’s around that time for midterms/Q1 exams so I wanted to make an update on this. In case anyone was wondering: yes, you can do fuck all until the week before your exam and still pass. I even managed to beat the curve and get a B+ somehow. Not too late to lock in ✊

Unhinged things to do for law school scholarship

Im in a tremendous amount of debt just from undergrad because I decided to go to one of the most expensive schools in my region just for prestige. Please don’t lecture me on it…I’m a double transfer and not about to transfer again. It is what it is…

But I need to go to law school to make it all worth it but don’t want to add onto my debt so I really need the best law school I can get into with the most amount of money.

I run my own business as a doula (a lot of client relations experience), have a decent GPA, going to get professional tutoring for LSAT, and started a cultural non-profit for diaspora children of the country my mother is from. I’m overwhelmed by everything and still scared it won’t be enough.

I’m talking full ride scholarship from a T-14. What else can I do? What may I be forgetting?

How are people spending 12 hour days on campus?

I prefer to work alone, never was a fan of studying in a library in undergrad. For some reason, being in that kind of setting is more distracting to me than just working at home. So when I hear about people who are on campus at 6 AM and there until dinner time…. I just don’t get it.

I pay an insane amount of money for a mediocre apartment within a short walking distance so that I can go back home when I need to. I will never, ever understand people who make a point of telling everyone how they spend more than 40 hours a week just on campus.

I go to class. I come home. I do work. And I go back the next day. And I don’t understand how that’s not the majority. The only time I’m on campus and not in class is on days where there’s a <2 hour gap between classes. Also worth noting that my classes are all early so I’m normally back home before 1.

Am I really that weird? Please tell me some of you are the same way.

Edit: It’s also worth noting that I have two cats who I feed twice a day. I would feel awful if I left them home alone for all that time every day so their presence also contributes to my decision to spend a lot of time at home. And also yes, I know I’m privileged to have a place to myself where I can work. I will note, though, that I go to a school with some insanely wealthy kids and the majority of my peers also have their own places within walking distance, so I am not an outlier at my school in that way.

Life lowkey in shambles

So I’m a first gen law student in Melbourne. And I cannot for the life of me find experience, or work or anything at all. I was told at first by a legal recruiter that my name was not Anglo-saxon enough.

Around 22 cover letters, and a whole semester of applying to everything. Cold calling, emailing, going to events at my uni and other uni’s, meeting lawyers trying to initiate some kind of connection. NOTHING. I had 2 different instances where I met up with a lawyer (man) and I was made to feel so uncomfortable. I don’t want to sleep around to get a fricken job. My grades are well off. I don’t understand what the problem is. And it’s not just me a lot of law students are going through this. This Ai filtering system on their websites u can’t even apply for jobs anymore because it won’t even get looked at.

Apparently I heard there is a shortage of lawyers with 2-3 years of experience. Genuinely wtf how are we meant to ever get experience if every role requires u to be present full-time and requires prior experience. What a joke.

Honestly might quit. Idk what else to do.

Sorry didn’t mean to bring the mood down just hating law rn <3

I hate clinic

Sorry this is my 3rd post about my hatred of clinic. I'm just venting, not really looking for advice.

This sucks. My partner is so stressful in the way she communicates. I cry literally every day over this. She doesn't understand that I know significantly less about this topic than she does. She's also extremely passionate about this topic and I don't think she understands that I'm not. She's devoting every waking hour to it and I'm on the brink of academic dismissal.

I regret signing up for this so much. This is actually the number one regret of my whole life I swear. I seriously cannot handle this on top of all this other stuff I'm dealing with. And the professor is nice-ish but intimidating and she's not someone who's very approachable.

I just wanna get through this and be done and never think about this area of law ever again.

Advice for federal judicial Externship interview?

Honestly didn’t think I’d make it this far. I’ve researched the judge and their 2 clerks. I think the interview is just with the clerks?
