Politics In ABC7 exclusive, Rick Caruso says he's voting for Karen Bass in Los Angeles mayoral race

"LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- With eight days left to vote, former mayoral candidate Rick Caruso says he's voting for the person who defeated him four years ago, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

"I think like most Angelenos, I've struggled with the choices that we have, but I've given it a lot of thought, especially a lot thought over the weekend," Caruso told ABC7 Political Reporter Josh Haskell in an exclusive interview.

"I've looked at the records and I've made a clear decision of who I'm going to vote for...And that's going to be Mayor Bass," Caruso said.

Speaking about Mayor Bass, Caruso said "The last few months, almost a year, we've worked together and I saw a change. She has worked hard to learn from the mistakes of the past. I feel very strongly, because of my love for Los Angeles, I had to put the past behind me. This election, I believe, should not be a referendum of the past. It should be looking for the future of Los Angeles. And I think she's the most prepared to take us into the future of L.A."

..."I also feel strongly that Councilwoman Raman is not ready for the job. She's not prepared for the jobs. I think the positions she's taken with Chief McDonnell are reckless. I think it shows from my point of view as a former police commissioner and the president of the commission, the importance of that job cannot be overstated. And Jimmy McDonnell is regarded as one of the best chiefs of police in this country. The mayor made the right choice, appointing him. And Nithya Raman has continued to double down, saying she's going to remove him," Caruso said."

News [KCRW] Emotions flare over euthanized Atwater Village coyote

Intense drama is brewing over wildlife in Atwater Village after a coyote attacked a toddler and was euthanized. Now officials are saying they could criminally charge a neighborhood resident for feeding the animal.

We first told you about this coyote, which neighbors dubbed Wiley, back in August. After the attack, some people started pointing fingers at the mother of the toddler, even going as far as calling Child Protective Services. KCRW's Alex Cohen has been following this very L.A. story.

Local Politics icymi - you can fill out a sample ballot online and cast it in person

if you're like me and enjoy voting in person, LA/County offers a Poll Pass that makes it super easy. you enter in your information, make your selections, and it generates a QR code you can scan when you go to the voting center (which are open now for early voting).

once you scan, it fills out all your selections and then you can review it as normal. saves time at the center and is nice to make selections from the comfort of your home.

Fire People keep installing real gas lamps on new homes built in my neighborhood. I think we probably have more real gas lamps now than the gas lamp quarter in San Diego. Is this a trend throughout LA?

Discussion Metro Expresslanes Transponder Replacement

Got the email a couple weeks ago saying they're sending out replacements for old transponders, has anyone received theirs? Also would the older transponder still work in the interim?

I was going to use it this morning for my commute but it wasn't beeping so I assumed it had already been deactivated but I have yet to receive the updated transponder.
