i’m a sophomore majoring in advertising and minoring in political science. while I know you can major in anything and be pre-law I’m still concerned i potentially made a bad choice major-wise and if i should switch them around (minor in adv, major in poli sci) there is some advantage to being an advertising major, at least for me, one being GPA protection and the other being i wouldn’t mind going into the field if I ended up not wanting to pursue law for some reason. but I’m still worried i’m doing myself a potential disservice.

I'm currently a junior undergrad college student and I'm beginning to study for the LSAT and I can't seem to get past a 140- 165 is my goal to have a chance at the middle tier law schools in Downtown LA. I know a law school in my area that does not require the LSAT but that makes me feel like I'm giving up. I haven't really locked in with the LSAT- I just can't seem to understand LR and RC yet. Any advice? What would you do if you were in my position? Does going to a Name Brand Law School like UCLA or USC really make a difference in post grad success? I just need my JD degree.

Im in a tremendous amount of debt just from undergrad because I decided to go to one of the most expensive schools in my region just for prestige. Please don’t lecture me on it…I’m a double transfer and not about to transfer again. It is what it is…

But I need to go to law school to make it all worth it but don’t want to add onto my debt so I really need the best law school I can get into with the most amount of money.

I run my own business as a doula (a lot of client relations experience), have a decent GPA, going to get professional tutoring for LSAT, and started a cultural non-profit for diaspora children of the country my mother is from. I’m overwhelmed by everything and still scared it won’t be enough.

I’m talking full ride scholarship from a T-14. What else can I do? What may I be forgetting?

So I have disabilities. My life path has made me pretty determined to go to law school. I am in pre-law undergrad now and if I got accepted to a law school "on time" I would be starting in fall 2028. I have done all of my undergrad online because there aren't really any accommodations for me (sometimes I have time extensions). The question I have is if it is worth it to go to law school in person vs continuing to do it online. I am PASSIONATE about the law, and would love to be surrounded by fellow law lovers and get to have the university experience. I have missed out on a lot of life milestones and experiences already.

I have Dysautonomia (like POTS) and spinal injuries so I get frequent migraines, extreme fatigue, heart issues, fainting, all kinds of really hard to manage symptoms. I am genuinely asking if people with these kinds of disabilities or limitations/symptoms went to Law school (or any demanding graduate school medical, engineering etc) and felt that it was physically overwhelming and would maybe be better to stay online for my health vs go in person for the social aspect?

I know this is a very personal choice and I am not looking to be convinced either way, just other peoples honest experiences. The thing is sometimes I can barely even go to the grocery store without coming home and having to recover for a day or so. My hope would be that my passion and drive would be enough for me to overcome it all and just go to school. Thanks for anyone who responds!

So, some background. I got a math and stats degree in undergrad, but my grades weren’t really all that good. GPA was probably around a 3.2. I graduated into COVID-19 and took my last semester pass/fail. I also got a job offer and had it yanked away as a result of the pandemic. I couldn’t find any jobs for a year after and eventually was forced to take a middle school teaching job, which I hated, and quit after a year. I tried some other things after, like a semester taking grad courses in applied math and working as a data analyst at an HVAC firm, and I failed at those things too. I ended up getting a teaching degree and going back to teaching. It’s not like doing a coding bootcamp will guarantee me a job. Unfortunately, I’m now back where I started: miserable and feel no hope for the future. I hate classroom management and feeling like all of my work is for nothing. I want to help people while also helping myself.

I was never encouraged by my family to be a lawyer (I always thought I was going to be a doctor until I realized I couldn’t do chemistry or physics) but I feel like I genuinely do excel with reading and writing more than I do with math. I’m also interested in the potential paths that a lawyer can take, and the kinds of law one can practice. I know that there are many drawbacks (large workload, lack of work/life balance, stress) but I feel like a lot of those are drawbacks with teaching as well, and at least an attorney would be better-compensated and respected. Do I have the wrong perception of practicing law? Should I be seriously considering law school? Would it be worth it?

Hello! I'm a freshman right now in college and I'm having difficulties deciding what to major in. I have always been very interested in STEM and I enjoy doing it but I don't think it's what I want for a career path and I'm very set on law school.

My school does not offer a poli-sci major, but right now I'm thinking about majoring in Government. However, I am also enrolled in a biology course and I am highly considering adding a double major in Biochemistry. My school does not require us to declare our major until the end of our sophomore year, but if I want to double major I should get ahead and start now.

I know that technically you can major in whatever you want and law schools wont care, but I am a bit worried about the rigor of the Biochemistry major. Law schools generally just look at your undergraduate GPA and LSAT, but it seems a bit unfair that they look at GPA regardless of major. Since STEM is so much more rigorous than humanities shouldn't they weigh that into consideration? An engineering major with a 3.9 versus an art major with the same grades should not be weighed at the same scale - since the intelligence needed for either one is not remotely similar.

Is it worth it to pursue a difficult STEM major? I could also major in molecular biology, which would probably help my GPA stay higher as I'd avoid o-chem, but I want to know how large the trade off between GPA and course rigor is.

If it helps, I think the STEM degree would be beneficial if I were to choose to take the patent bar exam later.

Hi! I'm currently a high school senior applying to colleges. I hope to be a transactional lawyer in the future. I haven’t applied to any colleges yet, and I have a general idea in mind of what I want to study, but I would genuinely appreciate any advice/feedback.

I was thinking of majoring in businesses administration with a minor in philosophy, but I was also thinking of majoring in Economics. I’m just trying to figure out which major would best prepare me for a career in transactional law, while also giving a backup in case I decide to pursue a different career.

I’m also curious about how difficult these majors are and whether Business Administration or Economics would make it easier to maintain a high GPA, since I know that my undergraduate GPA will be important for law school admissions. Are there any other majors or minors you would recommend that could be more beneficial for me? I’d really appreciate any advice!!!

Hi everyone! I've always thought about taking law, but I never took it seriously because I didn't think I was capable. Recently, one of my professors told me she sees potential in me and suggested I go to law school. It felt really validating, like someone else confirmed a thought I'd buried for a long time.

But I also have doubts since I'm not a Pol Sci, Legal Management, or Accountancy student. My course is BSBA Marketing Management, and I worry it won't prepare me much for law school.

Are there any law students or practicing attorneys here who came from BSBA Marketing Management (or another business course)? How was your experience?

Is it doable without a pre-law background, or should I take extra classes first? Any advice on how to prepare?

Hi all! I’m considering law and have a few concerns.

Firstly, I’m already 20 turning 21. I’ve taken a few college courses (like two semesters worth) in social work but know that’s not what I want to keep doing.

Law genuinely intrigues me. I know it’s very cliche to say everyone’s always said I’d be a great lawyer, but it’s true. I know family saying something is one thing though. My concern is that I’m not quite smart enough for it. I’ve always been an excellent reader but have always struggled in math and sciences. I also struggle to do schoolwork unless it’s genuinely challenging.

I guess my first concern is going back to undergrad. I work full time and it would be hard, and take me longer than other students. I already feel behind. Add law onto that and I feel like I would be so far behind.

I’ve bounced around a lot on degrees (social work, criminal justice, professional communication, public relations, international relations, business management, economics), but have no idea what one would be best.

I know I’m getting ahead of myself but I genuinely am not sure if I’m too late in the game. Perhaps I’m overreacting and overthinking it? I’ve just already tried college once and want to make sure it’s something I really could do and want before I try it again.

Who have you had review your personal statement? I am one year out of college. I graduated last December and have been working since. I decided to apply this fall cycle and have a decent personal statement going. It is 3 pages long (one paragraph on the third page). I want to shorten it. I had a past English teacher read it, and she thought it was great. Just wanting some more eyes. Any ideas welcome.
