Official Thread ICE Activity & Resources Daily Megathread - Tuesday, Oct 27

Due to increased ICE activity, we’re instituting a daily ICE megathread. All ICE-related content belongs here, including sightings, activity reports, news, questions, updates, and general discussion.

Centralizing discussion keeps information easy to find, especially for people moving around the city who want timely, relevant updates without having to sort through the entire subreddit. ICE-related content posted outside this megathread will be removed and redirected here.

This thread is sorted by New by default so the most recent information remains visible.

How to use this thread

  • Top-level comments are for new sightings, updates, or firsthand information.
  • Replies should stay under the relevant comment to keep related info grouped.
  • Check existing comments first to avoid duplicate or redundant reports.

We recognize this is a tense topic and emotions can run high. That said, content that incites, encourages, or threatens violence will be removed, may result in a ban, and may also violate Reddit’s site-wide rules, which can carry site-wide consequences. Keep reports factual and grounded.

SALUTE when sharing sightings or activity

Include as many of the following details as possible:

  • Size: Number of individuals, vehicles, or units observed
  • Activity: What is happening, observed actions or behavior
  • Location: Clear, specific description of where this occurred
  • Uniform: Identifying markings, clothing, or agency indicators
  • Time: Date and approximate time of observation
  • Equipment: Vehicles, gear, or other notable tools present

Clear, accurate information helps everyone. Speculation and rumors do not.

Discussion Hear me out Los Angeles…

An app where people can ping a location or submit a location, regarding trash, where cleaning volunteers and resources from the city of Los Angeles can both see, and can clean when available at their earliest convenience.

Just had this idea while at training at my new job.

Didn’t think anything all the way through.

Was just a thought I thought I’d spitball in here and everyone could give their two cents.

If you aren’t having a good day, make it one!

Always appreciative of Southcentralcleanup and cleanlawithme on Instagram.

Politics In ABC7 exclusive, Rick Caruso says he's voting for Karen Bass in Los Angeles mayoral race

"LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- With eight days left to vote, former mayoral candidate Rick Caruso says he's voting for the person who defeated him four years ago, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

"I think like most Angelenos, I've struggled with the choices that we have, but I've given it a lot of thought, especially a lot thought over the weekend," Caruso told ABC7 Political Reporter Josh Haskell in an exclusive interview.

"I've looked at the records and I've made a clear decision of who I'm going to vote for...And that's going to be Mayor Bass," Caruso said.

Speaking about Mayor Bass, Caruso said "The last few months, almost a year, we've worked together and I saw a change. She has worked hard to learn from the mistakes of the past. I feel very strongly, because of my love for Los Angeles, I had to put the past behind me. This election, I believe, should not be a referendum of the past. It should be looking for the future of Los Angeles. And I think she's the most prepared to take us into the future of L.A."

..."I also feel strongly that Councilwoman Raman is not ready for the job. She's not prepared for the jobs. I think the positions she's taken with Chief McDonnell are reckless. I think it shows from my point of view as a former police commissioner and the president of the commission, the importance of that job cannot be overstated. And Jimmy McDonnell is regarded as one of the best chiefs of police in this country. The mayor made the right choice, appointing him. And Nithya Raman has continued to double down, saying she's going to remove him," Caruso said."

What do people think?

Discussion "Baby onboard!" =/= "Asshole driver pass"

I don't know what you're hearing in your parents groups, but the "Baby Onboard" sticker is not a free pass to cut folks off, tailgate, leave your brights on (yes, I know the difference between LED and brights) or any other assholery

If you have the sticker on your car to alert folks to check for your kid after an accident - maaaaaybe don't try and get in one in the first place.

Question Halloween Rain - Alternate Activities for Kids?

So it looks like Halloween might get rained out. When I was a kid, I remember going to the mall when it rained, but indoor malls are barely a thing anymore. Does anybody know of kid-friendly activities these days, so the holiday isn’t a total bust?

In case folks are unaware, the vehicle registration fees can only be changed by a legislative act. The governor cannot change them via an executive order.

Steve Hilton also wants to eliminate the DMV, which, again, is not something the governor has the power to do.

Closely packed retrofit plates, a footing without supporting soil, and a crawlspace that looks straight out of Dune.

This week’s album also includes spalling concrete with exposed rebar and a girder barely bearing on its support post.

Politics The biggest slept on race in the City of Los Angeles - Mazariegos vs Ugarte, City Council

Post image
59 Upvotes

Understandably, a lot of the focus on politics is on the Mayoral race between Bass and Raman and maybe the City Attorney and the race in the valley.

The race that has grabbed the least attention is City Council District 9.

Mazariegos (left / blue jacket) vs Ugarte (right/ black jacket)

This isn’t really a shocker to me (I’ve lived here the majority of my life). However, I am making this post to bring awareness to an election that will not only impact resident of South Central directly but also shape the composition of the City Council that impacts the whole city.

Two candidates who have different policy approaches and have different backings.

Ugarte, former aide to Price (the current Councilmember), wants to ban RVs in neighborhoods, build a rail line down Slauson and hire more police officers. He is considered the ‘establishment’ candidate who is backed by the LA Democratic Party and unions (LA Fed)

SC Political Endorsements*: City official (Price), county and statewide elected officials (Smallwood-Cuevas, Kamlager-Dove), LAUSD elected officials (Tanya Franklin Ortiz)

Mazariegos, a community organizer, wants to build more housing, hire young people to clean streets and bring social workers into some traditional police domains. He considered the ‘outsider’ candidate who is backed by the progressive groups in LA (UTLA, DSA LA, CA Working Families Party)

SC Political Endorsements*: City officials (City Controller Kenneth Mejia), Assemblymember Elhawary, and LAUSD elected officials (Karla Griego and Rocio Rivas)

Happy to hear people’s thoughts on both candidates.

*there are much more endorsements that can be listed but I am listing the folks that are directly involved in CD 9 one way or another because it is within their service area or adjacent.

For example, Smallwood-Cuevas and Elhawary both represent South Central in the Legislature. Others like Kenneth Mejia is a city-wide official who serves all districts.
