Winning a championship doesn't mean the team should get a free pass the following season

• Upvotes

I think Knicks fans can celebrate last season's championship and still admit that this team hasn't looked good enough lately. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Winning a title proves what a team is capable of, but it doesn't guarantee that the same players will automatically click the following year. Every season brings different challenges, and the teams that stay competitive are the ones willing to adjust instead of assuming everything will work itself out.

I'm not saying we should panic over a few losses or act like the season is already over. There's a huge difference between recognizing a slow start and giving up on the team. But the sloppy possessions, questionable shot selection, and lack of energy still deserve criticism when they're happening.

The championship should give us confidence in this team's ability to recover, not an excuse to ignore its problems.

We can appreciate what this group accomplished while still expecting them to play with the urgency and discipline that got them there in the first place. Being a fan shouldn't mean pretending every performance is acceptable.

Tuesday Night’s Game is the Season

Only two teams in NBA history have made the playoffs after starting 0-4. Simply put, lose Tuesday and the season is all but over. Very little chance of climbing out of that hole.

The two teams to do it? 2018-19 Thunder and 2020-21 Wizards. Both teams lost in the first round.

Do you guys think the Knicks getting booed at the Garden (similar to that game against the Mavs in January) will give us back that team that won the finals in June?

Price Range? OG Anunoby Signed Skechers SKX Nexus 'NYC Blue' exclusive shoes (Size 15.5)

Hey Everyone,

I won these shoes in an online contest sponsored by Skechers Basketball (the typical "Follow, Comment, Tag 3 Friends"... yes, it actually worked) and I plan on donating them to a nonprofit's fundraising gala.

I'm new to all this - I've never gotten memorabilia graded and don't know how to properly price a signed piece. Considering the exclusivity of the sneaker, OG's Game 4 tip-in, and Knicks winning the title, how much would I price these at? What's the value and what do you suppose the starting bid would be?

I do not have a letter of authenticity but I do have a DM history with the official Skechers Basketball instagram. I reached out to them explaining my intentions with the sneakers and if it's possible for Skechers Basketball to send a letter acknowledging the shoes / signature's authenticity.

Looking forward to your comments. Thanks for reading!

Being a Knicks fan has ruined my ability to trust a good thing

Every time things start going well, I catch myself waiting for something to go wrong 😂

Years of watching this team will do that to you. Even when we have a good squad, I can't just sit back and enjoy it without thinking about what could go wrong.

The difference now is that I actually have reasons to be excited, which somehow makes me even more nervous.

I just want to watch a Knicks game without doing playoff math in my head or checking injury updates every five minutes.

Anyone else still have that automatic Knicks fan pessimism even when things are looking good?

This is also an early birthday gift, so I'm really really happy regardless of this start. I blew off studying for the bar for two weeks in June to celebrate our win. Game 4 is the greatest sports high I've ever felt and easily beats becoming barred if I'm being honest🤣🤣 Go Knicks!!!

How strong a team defends their title matters to me

I heard Simmons make this point when analyzing how strong a championship team was - how well did they defend their title? I’m not even a little concerned about the 0-3 start, tough opening schedule. However, I don’t look at this season as gravy, it’s important this team defends their title and goes deep into the playoffs. I think they will.

Can anyone tell me anything about this jacket?

How much would you sell this for?

I’m based in the UK and not sure 100% sure where I got the jacket from - I did go to a Knicks game back in 2013, so not sure if I got it from there or from a vintage shop in NY or a vintage shop here in the UK sometime in the 2010s.

What era is it from, is it rare or anything? If I was to sell it how much should I list it for?

Sarcastic comments not helpful, please. I’m just looking for some information so that I can list it accurately when trying to sell. I have no idea how much it’s worth.

I think we can all agree that Brunson is the daughter. Willis Reed and Walt Frazier are Adam and Eve. Lucifer is probably Isiah Thomas.

KAT appreciation post to make yalls day a lil better :)

I know these past 3 games was a rough start for our guys but I just wanted to share how KAT just keeps evolving with every game. Despite it all, he keeps his head in the game and manages to keep us afloat knowing they may not make it all the way. He's been pulling dunks, allyoops, and even downtown 3s that he normally wouldn't be so comfortable doing off the bat. Watching him so far, it seems like the hesitation is melting off of his plays and he looks really confident. It's really awesome to see in the clumsy-moving goofball that I always kept believing in even when people questioned if he was even worth the trade. I fucking love this dude and his game. His growth is never ending and it's always a blast watching him on the court.

Sorry for the tangent, just wanted to let out how awesome KAT was during these games 😅

Eventual NBA Champions that started their season on a losing streak (minimum 2 games)

With the Sacramento Kings starting their season 0-3, many people are discussing what that might mean for their championship aspirations this season. I was curious and wanted to see how many teams that eventually won the championship that season opened the year with a losing streak (a streak being 2+ games).

In NBA history, 6 teams have started the year 0-2 or worse and went on to win the title. Almost all of them were coming off of a trip to the Finals or winning the championship.

Source: Basketball Reference

1953-54 Minneapolis Lakers

  • 1952-53 Minneapolis Lakers won NBA Championship vs New York Knicks in 5 games (4th in 5 years)

  • Started season 0-2

  • 10 point loss at Milwaukee Hawks

  • 24 point loss at New York Knicks

  • Finished season 46-26 (52 win pace)

  • 1st seed in Western Division

  • Best record in the league

  • Won NBA Championship vs Syracuse Nationals in 7 games

1954-55 Syracuse Nationals

  • 1953-54 Syracuse Nationals lost NBA Championship vs Los Angeles Lakers in 7 games

  • Started season 0-2

  • 3 point loss vs Minneapolis Lakers

  • 23 point loss at Boston Celtics

  • Finished season 43-29 (48 win pace)

  • 1st seed in Eastern Division

  • Tied for best record in the league with Fort Wayne Pistons (Syracuse got homecourt in the Finals)

  • Won NBA Championship vs Fort Wayne Pistons in 7 games

1957-58 St. Louis Hawks

  • 1956-57 St. Louis Hawks lost in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in 7 games (Game 7 2OT)

  • Started season 0-2

  • 25 point loss vs Boston Celtics

  • 17 point loss to New York Knicks (neutral site)

  • Finished season 41-31 (46 win pace)

  • 1st seed in Western Division

  • 3rd best record in the league

  • Won NBA Championship vs Boston Celtics in 6 games

1981-82 Los Angeles Lakers

  • 1980-81 Los Angeles Lakers lost in first round 2-1 vs Houston Rockets

  • Started season 0-2

  • 2 point loss at Portland Trail Blazers

  • Finished season 57-25

  • Best record in Pacific Division

  • 1st seed in West

  • 3rd best record in the league

  • Fired Paul Westhead 11 games into the season (7-4) after a heated argument between Westhead and Magic at halftime led to Magic telling the media he was requesting a trade; replaced by Pat Riley (50-21)

  • Won NBA Championship vs Philadelphia 76ers in 6 games

1984-85 Los Angeles Lakers

  • 1983-84 Los Angeles Lakers lost NBA Championship vs Boston Celtics in 7 games

  • Started season 0-2

  • 1 point loss at San Antonio Spurs

  • 11 point loss at Dallas Mavericks

  • Finished season 62-20

  • Best record in Pacific Division

  • 1 seed in the West

  • 2nd best record in the league

  • Won NBA Championship vs Boston Celtics in 6 games

1990-91 Chicago Bulls

  • 1989-90 Chicago Bulls lost Eastern Conference Finals to Detroit Pistons in 7 games

  • Started season 0-3

  • 8 point loss vs Philadelphia 76ers

  • 1 point loss at Washington Bullets

  • 2 point loss vs Boston Celtics

  • Finished season 61-21

  • Best record in Central Division

  • 1 seed in Eastern Conference

  • 2nd best record in the league

  • Won NBA Championship vs Los Angeles Lakers in 5 games

Time will tell if the Sacramento Kings will overcome their lottery hangover and develop into the contender they were expected to be entering this season.

Edit - I missed the 1958 St. Louis Hawks originally who had the two worst opening losses of all these teams. Six teams, not 5.

First Knicks Game at MSG! Any Tips?

Hi everyone!!
My husband and I will be attending a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden for the first time!
I live in Europe, and this will be my first time visiting MSG and watching the Knicks play in person! I’m a huge Knicks fan, and my husband is a big sports fan, so we’re both really excited!
Do you have any tips or recommendations for first timers? Anything we should know, do, or experience to make the most of our visit?
Thanks in advance! 🧡💙
