Programming 100kg no foot snatch from today.

Been working no foot snatches this block. One of my favorite variations to fix A LOT of issues:

- incomplete vertical ext
- slow movement under bar (reflexing hips)
- excessive horizontal contact w hips
- disconnected turnover and receiving
- all this also shows itself with jumping forwards or backwards in snatch

I also am strong believer that most technical variations should can be done with 75 to 85% of your loads. I find this has the value when it is trained heavier in relation to a snatch. Something like 80 to 85%.

Fluff Starting Age

• Upvotes

Has anyone ever started weightlifting without a history of heavy squatting and achieved a 200k CJ in their life?

For context, here I am, M24 110kg BW, started this sport at 23 and quickly got hooked and obsessed with far out and ambitious total goals. I have no prior athletic experience, but for some reason this sport has me hooked. I’m 7 months in and have put 35kg on my back squat (125-160), 20kg on my snatch (84-104) and 24kg on my CJ (102-126) and it’s looking like i’m gonna do the same amount of progress over the next 7 months.

This is great and all, but i often find myself overthinking the fact that I’m getting into this, technically too “late” to be elite. I often find myself picturing a day that I can hit a 200kg clean and jerk and 160 snatch, but quickly get flooded with self doubt because of my age and people who will get into their sport at 16 and hit there all time highs by the time they’re in their mid 20’s.

My question is, are there any famous lifters who started later than average?

Squat 200kg PR at 38 😭

Been working forever for squat strength. It’s always plagues me. And I was stuck at 180-190 FOREVER.

Super simple programming. Months of 5x5 back squat 2x a week at 150, 160, and 170. Then, one day I hit 180 for 5. And then next week I said let’s ride.

Moral of the story. Just keep going.

Form check Pressing from jerk rack or bar floating?

Sorry for this dumb question, but when doing the press for weightlifting, do you start in a full jerk rack (bar supported by shoulders, scapulae protracted), or do you hold the bar floating so you can stack your elbows and wrists? I can imagine that for someone with very good mobility, these two positions might converge, but when I see lifters online, the form seems to vary depending on the individual. Thanks!

Edit: The "jerk rack" I'm talking about is this form, and the "floating bar" form I'm talking about is this form.

Equipment Eleiko Plates Damaged?

I have an opportunity to buy 2x 20kg and 2x 15kg Eleiko bumper plates. Should I be worried about the condition? I asked if there was any major damage and the seller said only minor surface tear on the rubber (first pic) but no impact on performance or usage.
Thoughts here please?

News Russia to host 2030 World Weightlifting Championships

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced in a press release on Sunday, October 25, that its 2030 World Championships will be held in Moscow.

Since the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Kremlin troops at the end of February 2022, no international competitions under the auspices of an Olympic federation had been organized in the country. Those that were planned had been relocated, such as the 2025 World Swimming Championships, which were moved to Singapore from Kazan.

However, Russia’s return to the fold of international sport has become increasingly evident in recent months.

In May, the International Olympic Committee lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee. Then, on July 7, it lifted the restrictions imposed on its athletes, who will be able to return to team sports and participate in the qualifying rounds for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, but without immediately restoring their anthem and flag.

The IWF, for its part, had decided in June to fully reintegrate Russians into its competitions. The world governing bodies of judo and then swimming had done the same, respectively in November 2025 and April 2026, as did the International Paralympic Committee for the Milan Cortina Winter Games.

Equipment Should I avoid these kinds of straps for weightlifting?

Post image
8 Upvotes

No shade to warm body cold mind, used some of their stuff before, just using this type of straps as an example. I’m looking for a new pair of straps and I was wondering if lasso style straps the design shown here are any good for weightlifting. I use my straps for all the normal stuff like volume work and pulls shrugs etc. but I do also use straps when I snatch cause I enjoy using straps on snatches. Are lasso straps recommended to use? I’m not aware of any safety concerns with them over the traditional weightlifting figure 8 kinds. More specifically asking in regards to the safety of these on snatches.

Equipment The 15kg bar is way easier to lift with

I can literally go up 5kg just by using that bar (yes I am adjusting for the less 5kg when counting the weight on the bar)

It just feels much easier to hold and the thiness of the bar makes it easier to get past my knees (or at least it feels that way)

I'm not doing comps so..

Programming I just hit a 106.6 kg clean @~67.5kg bodyweight but have repeatedly failed a 113.5kg front squat.

Training experience is around 6-8 months for the olympic lifts (been strength training for around a year). I'm self taught but have gotten a little bit of technique advice from someone who trains them and lots of YouTube videos.

Title basically says it all. I just hit a 106.59kg clean (from low blocks/crash pads) at 67.5kg lbs bodyweight but my best ever front squat is only 111.5kg and have only gotten 136.5kg on deep back squat once before. Is this abnormal? I'm assuming it means I need to do a lot more squatting?
