Theory My hopes for The New Ba Sing Se Spoiler

• Upvotes

The catacombs under Ba Sing Se are referred to as Old Ba Sing Se.

Ba Sing Se is one of the oldest settlements in the world,\14]) dating back thousands of years.\6]) In some form, the settlement already existed around 7,000 BG, when volcanoes triggered a great ice age.\15]) Early in its history, Ba Sing Se was a small subterranean city carved out of rocks by earthbenders. As the benders excavated further, they came across beautiful luminous crystals and began to mine them. The crystals currently serve as a common light source for cave inhabitants and other peoples, resulting in flourishing and prosperous trade that spanned the entire world.\16]) The settlement became the center of a massive trade network, and grew wealthy.\16])\17])

Eventually, as the metropolis' expansion reached the surface, the catacombs were abandoned.\18]) According to an ancient map from Wan Shi Tong's Library, the city had assumed its general form, including the Outer and Inner Walls, by 4,900 BG.\19]) Afterward, Ba Sing Se grew increasingly powerful, and its monarchs began to wage wars of expansion against other neighboring states. At the time, the city greatly profited from its strategically favorable location, as it was protected to the south by the treacherous Taihua Mountains. When Ba Sing Se was still young, several armies of rival polities attempted to march through this mountain range, only to be destroyed by its horrible blizzards.\20]) After the construction of its seemingly insurmountable fortifications, the city was widely regarded as unconquerable. The city continued to grow and eventually became the capital of the unified Earth Kingdom.

I hope New Ba Sing Se will have some references to Old Old Ba Sing Se.

Discussion Culturally, in the long term, if there really are two different avatars

• Upvotes

How would society evolve if it had two different avatars? (One of Raava and the other of Vaatu).

That's purely hypothetical, I think we'll never see that, even if they confirm the presence of two different avatars, it would require a series that takes place 1000 years after the current one.

Should the two avatars have a distinguishing mark to tell them apart? Will there be a way to distinguish one from the other, from childhood on? Will expectations be different? And if the two are born at the same time, will the adults raise them as a duo or as rivals?

How did you think the world would handle the presence of two avatars?

Discussion Why is their a push to have Jae be Bi ?

Post image
• Upvotes

People constantly insinuating that they're afraid to make him bi and thats why he's gay. If he's gay....he's gay. Thats pretty much it. Making him bi does not make him more interesting or anything.

As of now he's only shown attraction to men, thus he's gay until proven otherwise. He will not fuck that vendor girl or the airbender queen when he's not sexually attracted to them.

Discussion It's a show that...exist 🤷‍♂️

• Upvotes

That title sounds harsh and I dont hate the show by any means.

I'll say I think Seven Havens is...mid now its not mid in the modern-day "everything is mid" kind of way but like a true genuine 5 out of 10

The characters are passable but none of them are particularly interesting or all that well developed or even funny I don't think I've audibly laughed at a single joke the show was given in all nine of its episodes I don't think I hate any characters necessarily but most of them just do their jobs as far as the narrative is concerned.

I like our twin Avatar protagonist enough but there's nothing to write home about them overall they're cute kids and their Dynamic is fun enough but in a lot of ways their dialogue doesn't keep them any massive favors as it can be quite clunky at time, the mystery is fine for what it is but I'm not on the edge of my seat to find out the answers to everything but because I'm a fan of what came before I'm mildly interested in seeing what happened...I guess.

The world is a cool concept but we haven't really seen much of it so I can't really say I'm all that interested and the small glimpses that we have gotten from the other Havens if I'm being frank they're kind of generically boring at this point.

Everything from the art style, animation to our main cast and and the General Vibe of the show is definitely passable but nothing has really made me stop and go woah!

it's not bad per se but it's also not particularly great.

Honestly if the show didn't have Avatar attached to it I don't know if I would be interested in watching week to week and the show in a weird way seems to know that.

Nothing in the show has actually grabbed me and made me want to sit down and watch it week to week, again it's not bad but it's also not particularly interesting it definitely kinda just exists for now.

I think a lot of people really enjoy this show and that's great but I do think there is a group of people that is genuinely just trying to be overly positive about the show because they're afraid that if they're not then they'll get a repeat of what happened with Korra.

Edit: apparently this is a take that has been posted and reposted on this sub I apologize if it's one that people are sick of, this is quite literally my first time on the sub so I apologize if my opinions come off as ununique or repetitive

Discussion Gotta admit finally seeing Korra use metal bending in the avatar state is pretty cool in 7 Heavens

I've been dying to see Korra use metal bending in the avatar state. Her closest experience was kinda the chains in book 3 but it's Korra using her strength and whipping her chains.

Is it just because the (red) Fear Anomaly is showing them the memory or is it something else?

Spirit/Astral projecting in the previous series had Aang, Korra & Jinora look like blue ghosts, Aang was full blue when watching Roku’s memories.

Vaatu/Raava theories wouldn’t really explain both of their “spirits(?)” being red here.

Discussion I really don't like how the four nations melted into a generic soup

• Upvotes

The original Avatar series was foundational for creating an original eastern fantasy world with distinctive cultures based around various Asian nations, China for the Earth Kingdom, Inuit for the water tribes, Japan for the fire nation, and more general Buddhist monks for the air nomads. Now pretty much all cultural and racial distinction that made the world so vibrant is brown with an all encompassing generic Indian/arab theme. If they wanted more representation for southeast Asian culture it's something they absolutely could have done within the confines of what was already there, you have the Guru who is clearly Indian and so much of the existing world not fully explored. They could have added an Indian analogue to the Earth Kingdom in a mountainous region or a far off continent. Hell, even within the world building itself thats not how nation mixing works, Tenzin completely takes after Aang and Tenzin's kids all look like him.

Theory Theory: How Pavi learnt seismic sense

Post image
• Upvotes

Fun Fact: Toph also learnt seismic sense without any training.

And before you say "Badger Moles thought of her". Tell me one thing. How? She can talk to animals? Or did she "see" them bending "sound waves" through the Earth?

All earth benders can feel earth. But only incredibly talented people can sense fine changes such as vibrations. Toph being blind probably made her natrually shift to other senses like one tied to her bending

People like Aang could replicate it due to their heightened bending thanks to Ravaa

Pavi is not only also Avatar. She spent at least 3 years of her life talking to animals, bugs and rocks. It's not unlikely she stumbled across a badger mole, saw them doing their thing and was able to replicate it. She literally did the same with all other elements

Theory Korra might have out lived Asami with whoever took over future industries was the reason for the cataclysm

Post image
• Upvotes

Watching a YouTube video apparently with the role play game Korra and Juli opposed research of spirit energy which I think is an analogy for nuclear power.

I would make the assumption that Asami would go along with this and stand by her side.

With the lack of betrothal necklace I'm thinking that maybe they had a falling out but where still friends or it feel off during the fight my original theory was that it was because Asami died she took it off as a sign of respect by Katara had it throughout her old age so I'm not sure

Another possible explanation is that the video is after the cataclysm and they got married after the fact but that doesn't seem to be the case l

Idk if anyone else has been thinking about this but how come when past avatars were spirit energy they were blue, but Pavi and Nisha are red weird.

Theory A detail I noticed hinting towards Vaatu!

• Upvotes

Take this as "Pavi being Vaatu" or however you would like, but this basically confirms the Anomaly has some sort of connection to Vaatu. This was right after Pavi's chakra vision where the Anomaly leaves a trace of himself on the ground. You can see the pattern is reminding of Vaatu. I don't see why they would have a detail of the diamond Anomaly leaving a trace that looks nothing like it otherwise.

Discussion Everyone should 100% watch the Guru episode of the last airbender.

• Upvotes

It has pretty much every detail you'd need to know about the chakra system in the avatar universe.

The dialogue used by some of the benders of other havens reveals alot of what chakra they are located on.

It appears that Books 2-4 will take us outside of Ellora. But my goodness, am I going to miss this place! The Moebius-esque colors are so lush, the geometric designs offer immersive scale, and the diffused lighting quality feels so dream-like.

As a Vietnamese American viewer, I've always admired how the Avatar series draws from Asian and Indigenous cultures. It makes my heart full to see South Asian cultures celebrated so outwardly in this haven through the architectural, sartorial (tho not really evident in these screenshots), culinary, and philosophical details.

Everything feels so thoughtful. It makes me even more excited to see the other six havens. What do you imagine Akasha, New Ba Sing Se, Feather Mountain, and Republic Forrest will look like?

Theory Comprehensive Theory

After long reflection, I would like to lodge my theory.

  1. All of the seven havens are above a pool of liquid like the one Pavi finds. I think the liquid is a pool of energy like the Guru said, just larger. The energy is tied to the chakra which each represents.
  2. Each of the seven havens are disconnected because they represent the seven chakras which are currently “blocked” in some sense. They are temporary respite from the chaos because they are the wells of energy which used to flow freely throughout the world. Humanity and the earth are disconnected and blocked up, and each chakra must be cleared. Whose chakras they are is a little bit of a mystery. I think they belong to the earth or the sprit world or collective human energy or the avatar spirit or something.
  3. The anomaly is a being, sprite, or spirit which represents the root chakra that is blocked off below Ellora. It is not Vaatu. It may be suffering and afflicts those with fear as it builds off and distributes fear.
  4. The season will end when the chakra is cleared by dealing with survival vs fear. It will be the Avatars' job to save the world by fixing each chakra and saving the world.
  5. Korra caused the cataclysm. But I think she did so for a good reason. After opening the spirit portal I think humanity began to mine spirit energy as many have interpreted, slowly destroying the spirit world and throwing both worlds out of balance. I think that Korra told the city to evacuate to destroy humanity’s creation. I think that it will be an allegory for climate change. Such a severe action from Korra blocked the universe’s free flow of energy and threw the world into chaos.

I don’t have a good theory why there are two avatars. I don’t think that there needs to be a good reason, though. It works and I like the characters. There is a strong yin-yang imagery between the twins, so I think something with that theme will come to fruition.

Overall, I think 1 and 4 are totally right. I welcome everyone’s thoughts.

Discussion Detail: Has the crystal beetle plot from the pilot mirrored the arc of the first season?

Thumbnail

Showrunner Sehaj Sethi said on the episode of Braving the Elements that recapped the Seven Havens pilots: "And something that I feel like has always been a big guiding light, story-wise or creatively for me on this show, has been to take a macrocosm and really put it in a microcosm. Take a really big idea, a really big concept, and put it in the tiniest little thing you can imagine. And for us in this episode, it was Pavi trying to save this little insect. Like, that gives you a sense of who she is. It gives you a sense of where her stakes are, but it also leads her to something so much bigger."

This had me wondering if, in very broad strokes, the crystal beetle sub-plot was intended as a mirror to the central narrative in Season 1. After all, it's literally the very first scene, and I believe it's supposed to foreshadow the themes and narrative beats that emerged throughout the season.

As a very broad overview: A crystal beetle is separated from its family and almost faces grave harm (Pavi and Nisha's origin story), but is rescued. The crystal beetle is introduced to a new home and a new family, but the fit isn't quite right. Other crystal beetles are also forcibly taken (bender conscription?). Eventually, there's a panic caused when a crystal beetle bites back and the crystal beetles are released in a crowd. (The crystal beetle panic mirrors beat-for-beat the panic scene that unfolds when Nisha reveals she is the avatar.) Eventually, that first crystal beetle we're introduced to is rescued once again and released into freedom, free to reunite with its family. (Possibly Pavi and Nisha having to escape Ellora?)

Can you identify other examples of the show trying to "take a macrocosm" and "put it in a microcosm"?

Aangs hair animation was infinitely better than Pavi or Nisha combined.

I mean the way his beautiful locks flow in the wind, nothing can beat it! Not to mention the frame rate and movement is waaaay better.

Again not to compare, or be a hater, I just prefer Aangs hair animated to Pavi and Nisha. #sorrynotsorry #stopsayingimalarper

Question Has anybody noticed or mentioned... Spoiler

That Avatar State Korra in the memories is very reminiscent of the Dark Korra that began appearing after Zaheer poisoned her? Is it possible that they actually *didn't* get all the poison out and maybe the regrowing Vaatu within Korraava could use it to influence Korra. Idk I just wanted to join in on the theories 🤣
