Suggestion Hero Concept: Can’cera, the Last Defiler

Thumbnail
gallery
129 Upvotes

Hero Type: Bruiser

Description: Having survived the Brood War by burrowing deep into Charr, the last Defiler could only survive by cannibalizing the corpses of its fellow Zerg. Slowly, it evolved, adapted, and transformed. What emerged, was something far greater, and more terrifying.

Concept: Can’cera is a brutal, ranged bruiser, who cripples his foes with every attack, leaving them weak to his consuming hunger. The longer you fight him, the weaker your spirit will grow.

Trait: Cancerous Vector
Can’cera’s basic attack deals equal damage to both an enemy’s health and their mana/energy, sapping away their ability to fight.

Mount: (Z)
Instead of mounting, Can’cera burrows into the ground, moving just below the surface at high speed, visible as a cracked mound moving across the ground. While burrowed, Can’cera cannot be targeted by attacks, but he can receive splash damage. He cannot move through walls or gates while burrowed.

Abilities:

Q: Consume
Cooldown: 5 seconds.
Can’cera’s workhouse ability. He lashes out with his jaws, dealing heavy damage. If used on an enemy hero, the damage dealt increases based on the amount of mana/energy they are missing. If used on a minion, he will instantly consume them, regaining a set amount of mana. This ability can also target ally minions, returning more mana than if used on enemy minions.

W: Infectious Swarm
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Can’cera launches out a swarm of infectious insects, traveling in a straight line at a moderate pace. This swarm deals minor health damage and moderate mana damage to all it passes through, continuing forward for 5 seconds before disappearing. If this skill shot however directly strikes an enemy hero, it will adhere to them, sticking to them until it disappeared. If stuck on a hero, the amount of health and mana damage is doubled.

E: Crippling Plague
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Can’cera vomits out a mass of cancerous matter, rooting all enemies within the target area for 1.6 seconds. Rooted enemies take high health damage and moderate mana damage.

Heroic Abilities:

R1: The 4th Plague
Cooldown: 80 seconds
With a cackle of evil delight, Can’cera releases a massive swarm of infections insects, centered on him and moving with him. This swarm deals moderate health damage and high mana damage to all caught within it. While inside his swarm, Can’cera has increased movement speed and his Q ability has an almost instant cooldown. This swarm lasts 4 seconds before dissipating.

R2: Vile Torrent
Cooldown: 50 seconds
Rearing back on his tail, Can’cera then unleashes a stream of his crippling plague, continuously reapplying the root and damage to any enemy struck by it. Can’cera cannot move while spewing his torrent, but he can rotate to aim the stream. This torrent lasts for 4 seconds.

Creative Hero Concept - Lady Vashj - Ranged Assasin

Post image
68 Upvotes

Trait - Sea Witch Tatics
You auto attacks reduce spell armor for a period and it stack up to 5 times.

Mana shield - When this passive with a cooldown is up, if you would die stay at 1 hp and spend all your mana to gain a shield based on that mana.

Q - Frozen Tri-shots
Your next 3 auto attacks deal extra spell damage, slow targets and target +2 enemies in range (focusing heroes).

W - Forked lighting
Cast lighting in a cone in front of you dealing damage and reducing physical armor

E - Tornado
Create a tornado that goes in a line like ragnaros comet that deals damage and knockback enemies it hit.

R1 - Mental Comand

Create a big circle with a timer, then you chose "stay" or "leave", enemies that started in the circle after a timer end receive huge damage if:
Stay -> they are out the circle when the timer end
Leave -> they are in the circle when the timer end

R2 - Tainted Cores

Summon 4 "totens" around you making a square area, those tainted cores have a shared health bar that enemies can destroy. While inside this square, the cores take damage instead of you and your abilities and auto-attack gain extra range, damage and area. they are destroyed if you leave the square
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those abilities are a fusion between the naga sea witch unit and the boss fight.

i tried to make an hybrid between a "mage" and a "marksman"

She does not have a big burst damage but if you get left unchecked you start melting multiple enemies.

Mana shield is not used here as in W3 but i dont think a ranged assasin should get a very good shield.

I avoid making assasins because theres plenty already in the game but i thought its what make sense for her.

Discussion Recommended heroes for new players coming from Pokemon Unite

Hi there, I myself have been playing hots since 2016, but I took a long break from the game these last few years. I’m introducing hots to some friends who are coming from Pokemon unite, and I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for heroes for newcomers who are more used to that game.

Specifically one of the players was a die-hard Venusaur main, and I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for that specifically.

Feel free to also drop any generally new-player friendly characters.

Thanks!!!

Discussion Stealth heroes feel less scary when you understand what they're actually trying to do

I used to think stealth heroes were at their strongest when they could catch someone completely off guard, but the more I play HotS, the more I realize that the real threat is often the pressure they create just by being missing from the map.

When Nova or Zeratul disappears, you suddenly have to think twice about rotating alone, clearing a wave too far from safety, or taking a fight without knowing where they are. Even if they never get a kill, that uncertainty can change how the other team plays.

At the same time, stealth doesn't automatically make a hero useful. If the player wastes their cooldowns, picks bad targets, or fails to coordinate with the team, the surprise factor doesn't accomplish much.

I think there's a big difference between a stealth player who constantly looks for easy kills and one who understands positioning, timing, and how to make the enemy uncomfortable.

Which stealth hero do you find hardest to play against, and is it because of their actual kit or the way good players use them?

Discussion Lowkey, we need Draft back as comp feels worth getting into.

I've had the account for 9 years now and I've always played a good bit here and there. Over the years, I've found myself growing more and more competent in the game. Listening to advice, honing playstyles, remember not to chase the abathur as nine times out of ten he's leading you to a pile of mines capable of destroying a building, etc. And yet, for 819 levels, I've always found myself doing aram, the occasional fun brawl, and quick match. And over that time, I've gone terrible frustrated at the fact that quick match is unbearable a pain all because of the fact I'm rolling what might as well be dice. One game? 4 Assassins, 1 healer on both teams. Another? Two tank team vs tank shredders. And another game? Ok characters VS Xul, Hungering Arrow Valla, Cho'gall, and Lt Morales. So many games of just pure random slop that genuinely feels like you gain more losses then wins. It's too a degree that my own friends preferred aram over the fact you at least can see what your team is building. Then they ask:

"Why not competitive?"
Playing the game so long (especially in recent years), I've always said "no one plays it. Ques are insanely long." With a shrug of my shoulders. Even though I've never played it.

Well here I am. Bite the bullet after an 11 loss streak and one pity win. And lowkey, I'm unironically having a blast. Granted, I'm in Silver and all of these games and am currently swimming in wins. But I think the biggest part about those games is "alright, what is my team building. Dive in? Alright, I'm going to ban Uther." "What is the enemy team going? Just a bunch of damage with a healthy tank? I can get away with Karazhiam here."

For once after so long, I've been able to actually work around my team. I've been actually able to play against what I'm fighting without blindly hoping that if I am playing probius, I ain't going to fight a Nova with Triple Tap and an Illidan with Hunt. Not only that but I get to play with tanks. Holy shit, I know. I shed a tear after seeing 8 straight games of actually having a tank. I thought all the tank players had done flown away due to the season getting colder. But no, their all hidden away in competitive and god is it like being blessed by the angels themselves. But instead of gaining a boon, I get a big fat man that looks at me and says "stand behind. I got you." It feels so nice -- especially as a former healer main who is getting back into their roots.

Oh, right, I have a topic here. A majority of this was venting and tank praising as god did I miss fighting alongside a stitches or a muradin or anything with an actual health bar. I am almost tempted to say just purch Quick Play entirely and just replace it with Draft because I despise gambling.

Discussion HeroesProfile - how to filter to get good results

Hi!

I love statistics and love using HeroesProfile (along with IcyVeins), when playing HOTS.
However, I often find myself wondering how to set the filters to get really good, meaningful results. I’ve noticed many times that even a small filterchange, like changing the region or ranks, can sometimes drastically alter the results.

I’ll start by telling you how I currently set my filters, and then I’m curious to hear what you have to say about it :)
The main goal, of course, should be to find the “best” build:

- Disclaimer: For my part, I only play QM. Someone who plays Ranked might be able to filter more sensibly or effectively, since the map and picks are often known in advance, which isn’t the case in QM.

- Timeframes and patches: Before I decide, I always check https://nexus-patch-notes.github.io/ first to see when the hero underwent its last “major” change. Then I usually filter back a maximum of 6 months. However, if there’s a sufficiently large data set available, I’d use the patch where Xal’atath was introduced as the starting point in the future.

- Region: Probably the first major points of disagreement. I play in the EU region, and someone once told me (some good yt/twitch streamer, 2 - 3 years ago, dead serious can not remember) that I should avoid the KR and CN filter regions because the way HOTS is played there, there is a noticable difference from HOTS in EU. The results regarding what’s most effective on my game server would vary. I was told the same thing about NA, but mainly because the overall skill level there is supposedly “worse” than in EU. I have no idea if that’s true, but that’s why I filtered only for EU for a long time. However, the number of games has grown significantly after I start filtering with NA inclusive, so the results are cleaner.

By the way, this isn’t meant to spark a discussion about which continent is better at HOTS. I have no idea, and I’m not interested in that either. I just wanted to explain why I used to filter that way, and maybe some of you have opinions on it without straying from the topic of this thread :)

- Map filter: In the vast majority of cases, I leave the map filter blank. Even though I’d really like to set the filter, the number of games is usually too small to get truly meaningful results. (in addition to I only play qm)

- Player Rank and Hero Rank: For a long time, I filtered exclusively by Player Rank Master and Diamond. At some point, it dawned on me that there could very well be players in those ranks who are just testing out heroes or play them rarely. In terms of weighting, that would certainly be relevant to the final result. That’s why, for the past few weeks, I’ve been filtering not only by Player Rank (Master and Diamond) but additionaly by Hero Rank (Master and Diamond). This way, I want to ensure that I’m actually getting the data I need from players who aren’t just at the highest level mechanically, but also play their heroes at the highest level.
The other way around wouldn’t work, for example. Someone could very well climb to Diamond ranks with their hero without being among the top players in terms of overall gameplay mechanics (I think?). That would simply filter out the Gold/Silver players who play well with their main hero in their own rank(!). Just in case...

This filtering method sadly has a major drawback: it often drastically reduces the number of games. So it’s important to select as many patches as possible. Recent meta influences, such as the introduction of Xal’atath, are difficult to gauge using this method because there are simply too few games.

But now I’m curious to hear what you think :) How do you filter, and what else could I improve or change to get better results?

Thank you so much for reading this far and greetings to the people, who overthink things like this, like I do :)

Discussion Which underappreciated Hero can completely change a match when played well?

I feel like some Heroes in HotS get overlooked because they aren't flashy or don't have the same reputation as the usual popular picks. But every now and then, you run into someone who plays an underrated Hero so well that you realize how much impact they can actually have.

For me, part of what makes this game interesting is how much a Hero's value depends on the situation. A good Medivh can make fights feel impossible to finish, a well-timed Zarya shield can save an entire team, and a solid Uther can completely change how an engage plays out.

They might not always top the damage charts, but their impact can be huge when the player understands their role.

Which Hero do you think deserves more appreciation, and what separates a genuinely good player on that Hero from someone who just picked them because they looked fun?

Discussion Heroes to jam to? (Music recommendations)

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all, I am looking for music to play in the background while I play certain characters. There are a couple tracks (not playlists) that I associate with heroes and will play on loop to get in the headspace of playing the character. Examples:

Azmodunk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uints81YYMc

Garrosh - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK0L1MhMlYY

Background:

I purchased the Azmodunk skin when it came out in 2016. In my opinion, it is the highest quality skin in the game, and I enjoy using it very much. When it first came out, I would play multiple games of QM with a cheesy Space Jam remix playing on loop in the background. I would do this after work to relax and often would have good success.

I had a lot of fun dunking from across the map with my Q. I would do this for a couple years until a (in my opinion, unnecessary) rework in 2018 which stole my enjoyment of playing the character. Around this time, I started playing Garrosh instead. I was able to find a similar niche, playing "Times Change" on repeat with base skin Garrosh on his motorcycle pretending to be the warchief.

I think Azmodunk is in a good spot again, and I have fun with his different builds (though dunking is still my favorite). I play several heroes, but sometimes I will load up one of those tracks for Azmodan or Garrosh and zone out. I like to think I am good at these two characters and often win, but most importantly they allow me to have mindless fun.

Does anyone else have a character they do this with? Please share if so, along with the music track that you use. No playlists, please.

As the title says. There are too many trolls in this game and they get away with their poor behavior. They troll and then block incoming messages so you can't ask them what is happening and find out if they're an actual troll.

Just played with Aguilera (Nova) who would go hang in the back fort for 30 seconds, come take a shot, rinse and repeat.

Creative Hero Concept: Sargeras, the first team hero (requires 5 players to play)

Thumbnail heroesfire.com
145 Upvotes

Sargeras is the first team Hero, that requires a full party to play or all 5 players to pick him in draft mode.

This Hero concept is about

Not just feeling like playing Sargeras, but feeling like The Burning Legion, a army of demons invading the Nexus. In doing so making a hero that breaks the moba genre.

How it works:

Sargeras is 1 very powerful hero in himself that has Mythic Quest to all his basic abilities. He acts as a Abathur in the beginning with no body, but later on will force his way into the Nexus.
No ally or enemy will stand in his way.

The 4 other players will be playing as "Demon Lords" under the command of Sargeras, that will pick their heroes in the beginning of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3JkjItw-TY

Sargeras is the only player on the team that can pick normal talents for his team, not just very powerful ones to himself, but talents that changes the way Demon Lords play though the game.

Demon Lords are special kind of heroes that must follow some rules

Can only pick Heroic Talent at lvl 10.

There are 8 different Demon Lords, 2 of each role. each player picks a role they will play.

When dying on a Demon Lord, the player will switch to the other Demon Lord of the same role type.
You die as Fel Lord Zakuun, after your death timer, you spawn as Kin'garoth.

Why did I make this concept?

Because I can:)

Gameplay Xala'tath is still OP and still needs to be nerfed

Her Q is the only part of her kit that is somewhat balanced, her W still lasts way too long as a zoning tool, her E is still an instant get-out-of-jail free card, I thought her ults were balanced but they're both really annoying to deal with, especially the ball ult.

Her ball ult also has some really unintuitive interactions with CC If you throw her or displace her the ult will not cancel, it will instead just travel with her.

Her damage is still absurd, especially once she hits 100 stacks (which is not hard to achieve). Getting hit by 400 damage auto's that she launches at you while moving is something AA heroes like raynor don't even have, then she presses D and deletes you.

98% popularity , 90% banrate, 60% winrate. These are numbers indicating that she's broken still. It's not 70% anymore but its still way above balanced.

Things I'd like to see changed:

Q could use a slightly bigger radius, it's very hard to hit.

W shouldn't last as long. It's too annoying/powerful of a zoning tool,

E is mostly fine now that the range is shorter, tho I do think it's kind of BS that she has an instant TP on top of auto's while moving.

R: Minion spawning R is very annoying at level 20, it makes pushing into her a complete slog, I think the minions should have a lower spawn time, maybe 10 seconds or so after being killed.

R2: Ball ult R has some weird inintuitive interactions, I also think the damage is a bit too high, I would nerf the damage and make it so the ult gets cancelled if she gets CC'd during it.

D: Her trait is still overtuned, her auto attacks at max stacks hit like a truck, her D hits like a truck, it's still quite easy to activate, but I would mostly just nerf the damage or make it so you need 200 stacks or something.

Suggestion [Reupload] This time with a Video Spotlight! - [HERO SUGGESTION] Lorewalker Cho!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Guys!

[First of all: It took me a few weeks for this low quality video.
I am trying to get better, pls leave feedback what I can do better in future spotlights. Thx! :)]

Over 90% of all heroes are the same:

  • They do something
  • They deal damage to enemies
  • They win

Only rarely does a hero introduce a completely new playstyle, like Deathwing, Cho’Gall, The Lost Vikings, Murky and Abathur.

But if you enjoy those unusual playstyles, here’s the good news: Lorewalker Cho is joining them!

Official Art - Edited with Paint.NET

Lorewalker Cho will join the Support role and won’t face his enemies directly. His abilities are built around randomness and variety, because who wants to hear a story that keeps repeating itself?

Here is his kit:

(D / Trait) Inspiring Speech

Lorewalker Cho cannot target enemy players to attack them. Instead, he can target allied characters and deliver an inspiring speech to increase their damage and attack speed.

Inspiring Speech increases damage dealt and attack speed by 5% for 5 seconds. Stacks up to 8 times. Gaining a new stack refreshes the duration.

\Bonus damage dealt by affected heroes is credited to Lorewalker Cho.*
For example: If Illidan has 40% Bonus damage and deals 140 dmg instead of 100,
100 dmg counts as Illidan's dmg, 40 dmg counts as Lorewalker Cho's dmg.

---

(Y) A New Adventure! (Mount replacement)

Mount replacement. Fly on Mishi to an allied hero. 90 second cooldown.

(1) Bring Our Hero!

Special, toggle. Leave Mishi waiting at your base. Allied heroes may use her to fly directly to Lorewalker Cho. (45 second cooldown)

*While Mishi is waiting at the base or this ability is on cooldown, Lorewalker Cho uses his normal mount instead.
**Only one player can ride Mishi at the same time.

---

(Q) Once there was...

Lorewalker Cho summons a random non-heroic mercenary or a random summonable unit from another hero. Non-fight it is following the next lane. (20 seconds cooldown)

The life duration of that unit is paused while Cho casts Inspiring Speech on them.

\It can be a knight mercenary, a pumpkin mercenary, a beetle from Anub'arak or Abathur, a water elemental from Jaina. A Zerg from Zagara. Or anything else. It's random.*

\*Summoned Units by this ability have a 30 seconds life duration.*

(W) Singing

Lorewalker Cho begins singing a random song. Depending on the song, nearby allied heroes gain 2% attack damage, attack speed, movement speed, or shield per second. Stacks up to 30% and decays by 2% per second after the song ends.

(45 second cooldown, begins when the song is ended.)

*While Singing, Lorewalker Cho cannot use Inspiring Speech.
**Shield is 2% of the heroes life per stack.
***The songs is ending after 15 seconds automatically.

(E) It's dangerous to go alone

Lorewalker Cho summons one of his companions to follow him until it dies. Only one companion can be active. 45 second cooldown.

Companions:

  • Summer the Tiger jumps and critically strikes on its first attack.
  • Autumn the Crane has a high attack speed.
  • Knowledge the Dragon deals ranged splash damage.
  • Patience the Broom strikes in an area around itself.
  • Wisdom the Owl reveals the area around it.

*There can only be one active companion.

---

(R1) Sha-Corrupted Scroll

In a panic, Lorewalker Cho throws a Sha-corrupted scroll into a target area. It applies a random effect to allied AND enemy heroes alike for 10 seconds. 40 second cooldown.

Examples:

Positive:
-all (allied and enemy!) heroes gain 50% movement speed,
-or 25% damage,
-or a shield equal to 100% of their maximum Health,
-or are fully healed.

Negative:
-all heroes deal 50% less damage,
-or lose 50% movement speed,
-or are rooted, stunned, frozen, feared, or put to sleep,
-or are teleported to another point on the map.

Special:
-a heroic Sha creature spawns and attacks all heroes in that area,
-or a random heroic ability from a random hero is cast on this area, effecting ALL heroes,
-or all living minions march to that area and a battleground breaks out.

(R2) The story of a hero begins...

Summon a random hero with no talents. It follows the nearest lane until it dies. When pinged, it follows that player instead. Only one hero summoned by this ability can exist at a time.

*The summoned hero has no life duration.

Conclusion

Lorewalker Cho is a hero who sings for you, inspires you, and tells you stories. He has plenty of companions, frightens easily, and is still haunted by the Sha.

Talents

Lvl 20 Talents

(R1) Sha-Corrupted Lorewalker

The scroll's effect can now be influenced. If it hits more allied heroes, the effect is positive. If it hits more enemy heroes, the effect is negative. A special effect now always triggers as well.

\So it's two effects now: Positive+Special or Negative+Special.*

(R2) ... The End!
The summoned hero gains a random talent set and can use its heroic ability.

(Q) My army always wins
Deactivate "Once There Was…." (Q-Ability) Each minion wave spawns with one of its units instead. These units benefit from all talents that improve "Once There Was…".

(W) Never ending song
Lorewalker Cho can now sing indefinitely, and the stack cap is increased to 60%. The bonus lasts only while he is singing and allies remain nearby.

\Still can be stunned or being silenced to interrupt it. Still 2% decrease per second after the singing stops.*

(E) The August Celestials

Lorewalker Cho summons the August Celestials instead of his companions.

Yu'lon - breathes jade fire, leaving a trail that heals allies and damages enemies.
Xuen - jumps onto an enemy every 5 seconds and deals damage equal to 50% of their current Health.
Chi-Ji - attacks three times as fast and heals nearby allies. If a nearby ally dies, Chi-Ji sacrifices itself to revive them.
Niuzao - charges through enemies and stuns those it hits.

Conclusion - Lvl 20 Talents

Lorewalker Cho has 5 Talent Builds

1) Lane Push Talent Build.
2) Sha-Curruption Teamfight Talent Build
3) Story-Telling 6v5 Manipulating Talent Build
4) The Ultimate Supporter Talent Build
5) The Chosen One Fighter Talent Build

Pleeeeeeease!

This suggestion cost me 3 hours to write and research. Pls dont be too harsh to me.
