Buying help Can you help me decide which one is better for me a macbook pro or ThinkPad T14
Hi I am studying computer engineering, I am in third grade and I need to switch my laptop(its not working any more) for something else.
I was thinking of macbooks since a lot of my classmates use it. I was thinking either ThinkPad T14 or macbook pro and to be honest macbook suit my needs better because there is almost no fan voice amazing battery life and Charger isnt bulky.Exactly what I want.
But here is the problem. I never used any apple devices before and I dont plan to get one especcially iphones maybe ipad but not until I graduate. I have a android phone(HONOR) android tablet(Samsung) and windows desktop gaming pc.
Everyone around me is anti apple and they all say that since I dont use any apple devices it will shatter my work place. Getting into apple ecosystem atleast right now is impossible for me.
İf not macbook I would go with ThinkPad. I KNOW its the exact opposite of macs and goes against everything I want from a laptop but since no Windows laptop would give me an experience like macbook might aswell go with thinkapd since they have a lot of feautures I love.
Also even if I get a macbook I would still get a ThinkPad in addition to my macbook or get a macbook if I had a ThinkPad İN THE FUTURE When I have chance
Also I am not buying laptop for gaming. I have desktop pc for that as I mentioned before.
İs macbook good for me or should I get a Windows.

Hardware Is this screen savable? 2 years of bike commuting caused keyboard marks and scratches on my Dell Latitude 5530
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on whether this screen can still be saved or if a replacement is my only option.
This is a Dell Latitude 5530. The glossy screen is heavily worn down with scratches and keyboard imprints caused by years of daily bike commuting to work (flexing/pressure in my backpack, I suppose). (the big light on the screen is just a lamp to show the scratches)
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Are there any DIY fixes (like screen polish, a screen protector that masks scratches, etc.) or is the panel too far gone?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

General question what did I do?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all! I tried deleting firefox with revo uninstaller, which I've been using for the past year or so to skip the annoying confirmations and fake slow load times apps tend to inject while uninstalling, but now for some reason this started happening the moment I decided to cancel the uninstalling process. I restarted and everything appeared normal, but it started up again a while afterwards. (Ps, ignore the weird renames and files, I've had this since I was 13 and I never really bothered deleting the cringe stuff.)

Hardware battery replacement or buy a new laptop
hi guys, thank you in advance if anyone reads this!
ive been using my asus vivobook X515EA since about late 2023 or early 2024 (although the bios date is 10/11/22), the battery has always been pretty terrible and i never got around to doing anything about it while it was still on warranty 😭 its also pretty slow but i havent found any fixes that make that much of a difference to that
idk if anyone needs to know this but the processor is 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz (2.42 GHz) and graphics card is Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)
it has 477gb of storage with 126gb free (i also have no idea what is taking up so much storage) and 8gb of ram and i think alot is taken up but i have no idea what by (the screenshot below is taken with only google open and like not even 20 tabs)

i mostly just use it for work, watching tv, occasionally light gaming but only things like roblox and minecraft which last time i tried were both so slow and would freeze every few minutes
i love it but idk if i should replace the battery plus i dont know anything abt them - how much are batteries, where do you get them from, could i do it myself or if i should buy a new laptop how do i even begin to know what to look for/which one i want, (also can i switch everything over from this to a new one and is it easy) and is it gonna be more cost effective in the long run to buy a battery instead? or what should i do?
any help or advice would be appreciated, im happy to give any more information!

General question Fail to allocate GPU memory
Hi everyone,
My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB VRAM).
A few days ago, I encountered a problem while playing Dota 2. The game suddenly froze and became unresponsive, but all other applications continued to work normally.
I tried relaunching the game and restarting my laptop, but nothing worked. The game still froze a few seconds after launching. However, when I disabled the NVIDIA GPU driver and used only the integrated GPU, the game ran normally.
I also checked the GPU performance in Task Manager and noticed that the dedicated VRAM usage remained at 0 GB when launching Dota 2. The game itself continued running, but the display was frozen.
I've tried installing both newer and older versions of the NVIDIA driver, but nothing seems to have fixed the problem. More recently, my laptop also crashed with a VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL blue-screen error.
Does this mean my GPU fried or something wrong with the driver. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their GTX 1650? If so, what did you do to fix it?
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Buying help Wich laptop should i choose
Hi everyone!
I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and I'm having trouble deciding which one would be the best choice for the next 5-7 years. I want something that performs well for everyday use, school/work, and light gaming, including older or less demanding games like Minecraft.
These are the laptops I'm currently considering(also see photo):
ASUS ExpertBook P3 G2 14
Lenovo Yoga 7a 2-in-1 Gen 11
Lenovo LOQ 15ARP10E
ASUS ExpertBook P3 P3605
HP OmniBook 7 16
HP OmniBook X Flip 14
My main priorities
Longevity: I'd like the laptop to remain capable and reliable for at least 5–7 years.
Performance: It should handle everyday tasks smoothly and run Minecraft without any issues.
Build quality and reliability: I'm looking for something well-built that will hold up over time.
Value for money: I'd rather not spend €1,500 if a cheaper option offers a better overall experience.
RAM and storage: Upgradeable RAM would be a big plus, although I'm also considering models with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.
Portability: I'd prefer a 14-inch laptop, but I'm open to 15.6-inch and 16-inch models as well.
I'm particularly interested in whether the Lenovo LOQ is worth considering because of its dedicated RTX 3050 graphics card, or whether one of the other laptops would be a better long-term investment.
At the moment, I'm leaning towards the ASUS ExpertBook P3 G2 14 because of its upgradeability, particularly the RAM and storage options, and its overall price. However, I'm not sure whether it's the best choice in terms of performance, build quality, and long-term reliability.
Which of these laptops would you choose, and why?
I'd especially appreciate insights into the differences in CPU and GPU performance, cooling, build quality, reliability, battery life, and upgradeability. I'd also like to know whether 16GB of RAM is likely to be sufficient over the next 5–7 years or whether 32GB would be a worthwhile investment.
Finally, are there any alternative laptops in a similar price range that you think would be a better choice?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Discussion How long is it normal to wait for a replacement battery to be shipped?
I gave my laptop to a computer repair shop over 4 months ago for a replacement battery and I'm still waiting for it to be ready. They said it is taking this long as they are ordering numerous batteries along with the shipment and these all contain hazardous chemicals and transporting it to here in New Zealand from overseas is a lengthy process.
Is this normal? I've been given a replacement laptop in the meantime to use.

Hardware Help! What is that sound?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
That started from nowhere! I never poured anything, never dropped it and sometimes this sound disappears. A few days ago I cleaned the fans, there was a lot of dust, but the sound didn’t go away. It doesn’t matter what I am doing, playing or just watching YouTube, it can start sounding like this again. What I can I do to check what’s wrong? I am afraid it may sound like HDD breaking or something, I’m not good at computers too.

General question When should I replace my battery?

So I today I noticed the battery was draining very fast in about an hour or so and made a battery report in cmd.
I rarely use the battery only when travelling or when i have to finish something quick before bed.
The rest of the time its always plugged in at 100%
And here you can see the battery life is at 56% only...
About my laptop its a Dell precision 7540 with a nividia quadro T1000 and a i7 9850H so it uses a lot of power.
When do you guys consider me changing it for a new one or should I leave it like this.

Hardware Strange Blue Mark on IPS screen—keeps getting worse for no reason
Hi everyone, recently I booted up my Acer Aspire 5. However, it doesn’t have a common OS. It runs “Googlebook OS”, which i installed from a project called gbos-x86. Anyways, for some reason this strange blue mark with scattered pixels keeps getting worse, even though I haven’t done anything to the computer. This issue is not from the OS, but rather strangely from the laptop itself. Can someone please assist me?
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3
GPU: Radeon Graphics
OS: Googlebook OS (NOT A GOOGLEBOOK, JUST HAS THE OS)
Problem: Display
Screen type: 1080p, not OLED(?)

Buying help Is NVIDIA CUDA worth prioritising in a £850–£900 laptop for AI/ML development?
I’m looking to buy a laptop for around £850–£900, potentially stretching a little further. I’m deciding between a Windows laptop with an NVIDIA GPU and a MacBook Air.
My main uses will be:
AI/ML engineering and experimenting with open-source models
Python and general software development
Learning about AI infrastructure, GPU computing and potentially training or fine-tuning smaller models
Linux development, Docker and working with remote servers
I currently have an Ubuntu desktop with an RTX 2060 Super (8GB VRAM), but I’m planning to sell it, so the laptop may become my main development machine. I don’t mind using cloud GPUs for particularly demanding workloads, but I’d prefer to do most of my everyday development and smaller experiments locally.
I’m not interested in gaming on this laptop, as I’ll have a separate gaming PC later.
My questions:
How important is NVIDIA CUDA for someone learning AI/ML engineering and infrastructure?
Would losing access to a local NVIDIA GPU significantly limit the projects I could realistically work on?
Would you recommend an RTX 5050 laptop with 8GB VRAM, or a MacBook Air with 16GB or more of unified memory?
At this budget, would you prioritise GPU performance, system RAM, battery life or build quality?
If you were buying a laptop for these purposes today, what would you choose and why?
I’d appreciate advice from people who actually develop and experiment with AI models on their machines, particularly anyone who has used both NVIDIA laptops and Apple Silicon Macs.
Thanks!
Hardware Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (i7-14th HX + RTX 4050) suddenly dead – MOSFET near GPU burnt. Acer quotes $1k for new board
My Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (14th gen i7 HX + RTX 4050, ~1 year old, out of warranty) suddenly shut down and is now completely dead. No display, fan doesn’t spin at all when charger is plugged in.
First technician said a MOSFET near the GPU is burnt, but claimed GPU and CPU are fine. Acer official support is quoting around$1k for a full motherboard replacement.
Attached is a close-up of the affected area on the board.
Has anyone faced a similar MOSFET failure on Helios Neo 16 or other Predators?
Is component-level repair usually successful in these cases, or is full board replacement the better option? Any idea of realistic repair costs?
Thanks.
