Discussion This is the first year in more than three decades with a Democrat running in all 124 South Carolina House districts, and 31 of us are here. Ask us anything!

Hi, r/southcarolina! This year there's a Democrat on the ballot in every one of South Carolina's 124 House districts, which hasn't happened in more than 50 years (see the note on history below). In 2024, 54 of those districts didn't have a Democrat on the ballot at all. So instead of a hundred separate AMAs, we're doing one for the whole class, three days before early voting opens.

31 of them are in! Each candidate answers you from an account the mods have verified. I tried to take a picture with all of them holding up their signs. It was an experience.

Leave your question now and the class answers Friday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 5 p.m.

If you know it, start your comment with your district number ("District 99:"). Don't know your district? Type your address at bluewavesc.org and it'll tell you, along with who's running there.

Early voting runs Oct. 19 to 31, Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can find your early voting center at scvotes.gov.

A big thank you to the moderators of r/southcarolina for helping us pull this off!

Edit, a note on history: The title says "more than three decades," but it's actually been more than 50 years. In March, South Carolina Democrats had a candidate for every statewide office for the first time in 32 years, and one in every state House district for the first time in more than 50. So while both statements are true, the title actually understates it. Either way, it's been way too long and we're glad everyone is running!

Discussion I’m Vincent Coe, a trained bank examiner running for South Carolina State Treasurer, the office where the books were off by $1.8 billion. Ask me anything.

Hi, r/southcarolina. I’m Vincent Coe, the Democratic nominee for State Treasurer!

I'm working with the mods here on a bug that wouldn't let me schedule this in advance. So anyways, I'll be here at 1pm answering your questions this afternoon. Go ahead and get them in and I'll get right back to you.

I made a video for y'all here >

I grew up in Darlington County, studied finance at the University of South Carolina and earned a law degree at Case Western Reserve. I trained as a bank examiner at the FDIC, examined banks for the Federal Reserve and later became a vice president at a bank, where I was its fair lending officer.

The State Treasurer is basically your banker. The office holds the state’s money, invests it and pays its bills. In that office, the books were off by $1.8 billion, and 33 state senators voted to remove Treasurer Curtis Loftis. I’m running to clean it up.

What I’ll do:

- Open the books, with a public report every month on every account, investment and fee the office oversees.

- Get taxpayers a better deal by putting the state’s banking contracts out for competitive bids.

- Give South Carolina’s community banks a fair shot at holding the state’s money.

- Get people their unclaimed money back faster, with more of it mailed automatically.

- Serve all 46 counties, with better banking and investment help for every county, city and school district.

I’ll be here Wednesday, Oct. 7, starting at 1 p.m. Eastern, and I’m answering these myself as long as I can. Ask me about the office, the $1.8 billion, my plan or anything else.

Early voting runs Oct. 19 to 31, Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Type your ZIP at vincentforsc.com/vote to find your early voting centers.

Absolutely gorgeous state park, and the hike to Rainbow Falls is challenging yet so rewarding.

Pictures cannot do this place justice, especially during this time of year

Politics @ Lady Lindsey way to go sc.

I'll ask you magas out there before this election. What did Lindsey ever do for you? ( unless your one of the dudes he paid for sex with).

He, along with his security detail got paid, with your tax dollars for him to get plugged; all the while, LADY, was crapping all over the LGBT community. And the man flipped more than live fish in a fish fry.

Wake up. The man was an in the JAG corp. He knew the law, but choose to break it. Repeatedly.

He was a gay man that used the military to flex what he himself didn't have. He "loved" the military. How many military bases does sc have? Bet you can't name them all.

Now that he gone to wherever gay murderous hypocrites go, sc it was time to find the best, to fill his extremely "squishy" seat.

Instead....

You find his SISTER. Slap a new name on her and shove talking points into her hand.

Personally, i think it's Lindsey in drag to escape war crimes.

Public Service Petition · Stop the Renaming of Aiken Regional Airport

Thumbnail
change.org
41 Upvotes

https://www.change.org/keepaikenregional

The Issue

The character of Aiken, SC, is like no other small Southern city -- a unique mix of rich history and forward-thinking innovation. This character is embodied and exemplified in our public spaces and institutions. However, the recent and ongoing effort by some in our community to rename our AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT after the late Senator Lindsey Graham threatens this identity dramatically and unnecessarily, and with far-reaching and potentially serious negative consequences.

POLITICAL DIVISION: If implemented, this name change would divide our community by attaching the name of a polarizing political figure to a municipal institution. Despite his influence, Sen. Graham did not hail from Aiken and did not call this area home. Our airport should be a place that is hospitable to all, a place that reflects our welcoming culture rather than endorsing political figures. The potential negative economic effects of renaming our airport may be especially significant during heavy seasonal travel each spring.

SAFETY IMPLICATIONS: Renaming our airport would pose potential safety risks. Changing the name of an airport requires pilots and airlines to update their flight plans and databases, leading to confusion and potentially dangerous or even life-threatening situations. The name AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT is well known to the community and to frequent visitors, and maintaining that name is crucial in ensuring continued safe air travel operations. This is especially true since the AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT is an "uncontrolled" (or non-towered) airport, meaning there is no air traffic controller to help respond to pilot inquiries about airport identity.

EROSION OF AIKEN'S BRAND: From an economic and branding perspective, our AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT is an essential gateway to our city. Aiken has worked hard to build its brand as a prime destination for business and tourism. Changing the airport's name would dilute this identity and confuse potential visitors and investors. Maintaining the recognition of our AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT plays a significant role in continuing to attract attention and investment to Aiken.

SUMMARY: Renaming our airport is not just a matter of changing a sign; it involves erasing a part of our community's identity and planting new seeds of division, not to mention the significant cost to taxpayers. Aiken deserves leaders who prioritize the community's cohesive spirit over individual recognition. If Sen. Graham deserves a memorial designation, it could be the airport terminal, for example, as this would not erode Aiken's brand or create operational confusion.

Please join me by signing this petition urging the Aiken City Council to dismiss these unnecessary renaming plans and leave the name of our AIKEN REGIONAL AIRPORT unchanged.

Politics This is just ridiculous

I got four. Four! Pieces of mail for Darline Graham Nordone today. Like seriously?? That's just insane. They don't even say what she wants to implement! It's literally just a pissing contest against Dr. Annie Andrews because most of the pamphlets only mention "winning" against her. Only one mentions anything about education, the economy, or anything that's actually important.

Have y'all gotten an insane amount as well? I also got a Women Speak Out pamphlet for abortion and "saving children". They say that Dr. Annie and Jermaine would allow "late-term" abortions, which weren't even allowed when abortion was legal! It's just misinformation and obviously trying to persuade people to vote for their agenda.

Please vote for Dr. Annie Andrews and Jermaine Johnson on Election Day!

Discussion Voted in Horry this AM, warning about the machines

  1. If you do not have a SC DL you best have your voter registration card.

  2. The straight ticket option is BS. It's lazy and promotes hyper partisanship - and of course the Republicants are the top line.

  3. Why are the Republican the first option on the machine? Last time I checked D was before R. Hmmm...see #4.

  4. Most importantly, I touched the screen box for a Dem candidates and on 2 occasions it registered for the GOP candidate on the line above. The machines are not switching votes but if you don't hit the exact spot on the screen, it votes for the candidate on the line above which is of course the Republicant.

Be careful, go slow and check you printed ballot.

Discussion Be prepared for gas price whiplash in SC, perhaps as much as a dollar higher in the days/week after election day

TLDR- Get ready for gas to increase to $4+ in the days after Nov 3rd Top off your tank before then

We are lucky in SC to have some of the cheapest gas in the country but get ready for a big bump.

Ive taken an interest in oil and gas prices lately and I've kept a close eye on crude leading up to the election.

Something isn't adding up.

The last time crude was this high (almost 117 per barrel at writing) gas at my local station was $4.19. it was $3.59 yesterday.

Either the administration or oil companies or both of them together are working to drop the retail price of gasoline to counter Irans efforts to raise them before the election.

We are going to see a big rebound.

Im guessing they ratchet up prices pretty quickly after the election and add some to try to recoup some of their losses. I wouldn't be surprised to see $4.30. depending on how cynical they are, we could see it as early as the 4th, but I'm guessing they'll phase it in over a week or two
