As the title says. My (23F) coworker (20M) slapped me really hard on the back unprompted the other day.
This is not the first incident with him, and I’m relatively sure I’ve tried EVERYTHING to make him stop. He’s relatively well known for trying to rage bait other people and myself (like saying your name, then when you turn and ask what he wants/needs he pretends he never said anything) and there have been repeated incidents where I have asked him to stop doing something and he refused.
One day when I was newer he repeatedly called me the N word (I’m white, he’s not, but he’s not black/African American either) and I explained I don’t like being called that, calmly asked him to stop, and he kept doing it until another coworker (male) told him to.
He’s repeatedly flicked/pinched me and other coworkers, one of those coworkers literally becoming so fed up with it after asking him repeatedly to stop (calmly several times, all the way until she was shouting “Stop!” At him) and he would just laugh about it.
There are several incidents, but the most recent one was my breaking point. A month or so ago he kept flicking me, and I asked him to stop, yelled at him to stop, and got to the point I was hitting him with an empty Togo box (not my best moment) and he just laughed. A few days ago, he randomly slapped me on the upper back really hard. I had a red mark when I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror.
I went up to him and, very calmly, said it HURT and told him I didn’t want him to do it again. He proceeded to get defensive and said “it didn’t hurt, you’re just a pussy woman, stop being a pussy about it, it didn’t hurt!” And so on and so forth.
Several other coworkers have spoken with me about how they don’t appreciate the way he talks to them (all female) and treats them and other women. I mentioned I was just about ready to go to our main boss and tell him what happened, or if I didn’t, punch him the next time he did something (I wouldn’t, as I need my job, but god is it tempting). She said I should tell our boss.
So, I told our boss. He was very professional about it, said that I was right and that he should not be doing that at all, but that he 100% should have stopped when I told him to. Our boss also said if after he has a talk with my coworker (where no names would be said as to who reported him) gave me any sort of retaliation, to tell him immediately.
The rest of the day (said coworker came to work after I had this conversation with our boss) my coworker didn’t act unusual, and I assume the conversation hadn’t been had yet. The next day, still no strange behavior.
Today? He refused to speak with me at all. No hello (I didn’t notice til later when I thought about it that I was one of the only ones he pointedly didn’t say hi to), and when trying to see if I was still on the floor he looked at our other male coworker and asked him to ask me if I was still on the clock or not.
I was literally a foot in front of him sitting down at a table.
Both me and our other coworker looked at him funny and I asked why he wouldn’t ask me himself. He said he “doesn’t talk to snitches”.
Throughout the shift, he would say snitch whenever he passed me and refused to speak to me otherwise. He literally stood in one of the rooms we use for work five feet away from me singing “S-N-I-T-C-H! Snitch Snitch Snitch!” Over and over again.
At one point, I was trying to put ice in a cup, he was standing in front of the drink machine. I opened the ice bin, reached for the ice scoop, and he took it before I could and placed a single ice cub in his cup, tapped the rim, put it back where it goes, and closed the ice bin I just opened. I was literally standing next to him.
Also, pretty sure he asked another of our coworkers if she was who snitched on him, and when she denied it (I know our boss did not say my name) he sounded like he was talking to her about how it was definitely me. I was standing several feet away, so I don’t want to definitively say that is what occurred.
My friends and one of my coworkers who I’ve told this all to say that I should say something to our boss again about this, considering they think it is retaliation. I don’t know if it’s worth risking the situation getting worse. He’s been there longer than I have, and I won’t deny that he’s good at his job. He is friends with a few of our other coworkers, but I know a lot of them are also tired of his crap.
Should I say something again? Should I just wait for it to blow over? I’ve never had a situation so bad that I’ve gone to management to complain before.
