Gaming I hate when absolutely everyone is "playersexual" in games
Sexuality is as much of a character trait as anything else. When it's stripped away just so everyone can roleplay whatever the hell they want, I always feel like the writing suffers for it. The characters lose a part of their agency and seem like trophies that anyone can collect if you pick correct dialogue options. Yes, that's what every game romance boils down to at the end of the day, but good writing makes you forget that and immerse yourself in the story and the world. When even something as basic as other characters' sexuality is changed to please the player, it feels like the fictional world exists solely for them and is otherwise empty. I hate that so much.
Yes, it may suck if you can't romance the characters you like with the MC's gender that you picked, but that can be an integral part of the experience and your own unique plot too! You picked some flirty options, a character turned you down, and you have to move on. I know I had to do it once or twice, and it didn't make the game worse. If anything, my party felt more alive and dynamic. Like I wasn't the center of their whole universe.
If anyone's wondering, no, them simply "being bi" is not a canon explanation in these stories. I haven't played the newest Dragon Age games, but in the older ones, if a character is bi, it'll be expressed in some way. Maybe they flirt with others, or mention their past flings. You know, like real people do.
I also hate that word too - "playersexual". Feels real stupid for some reason, but that's neither here nor there.
