i lied, i dont hate it, but i am pretty fucking underwhelmed. its a repetitive pain to get for not much at all
for those who havent played re2, the game has "4" different campaigns, split between two characters: Leon and Claire. two campaigns are just the same one changed not enormously but notably still, between the two. the second two campaigns are each unlocked after beating the game as the opposite character, and follow them. for example, if you first play the game as claire, youll do leon's "2nd run", which essentially shows what she was up to while you had been playing as claire.
the odd thing is that despite leon going through the same areas at many points, you still have to do the same puzzles with mild differences (like deciphering a code, except the answer is different but the process is the same). this means that youll go through the entire game twice atleast to get the full casual experience, and 4 times just to see the same campaign with mild differences. its to the point that outside of one box of text, the sewers section of the game is completely unchanged during your second run. an already unengaging area in your first playthrough, which is even more dull every subsequent playthrough because you already know what to do. the same is true for the final area, a lab, with the exception that you can skip like, one room because they give you the item you need earlier. doesnt do much at all. you fight the same bosses, at the same points, except this time you get chased by mr x in the beginning and thats pretty much the only notable difference from leon first to leon second
now, ive run the game three times now. once for leon's first run, then for claire's first run, and finally leon's second run. thats like, 15 hours of gameplay with only a third of that worth of actually unique content. i essentially played through the game 3 times. you know what i got? a boss fight that boils down to shooting it with a pistol until it opens its mouth, then shooting it in the mouth with a rocket launcher. both items are physically impossible to miss, so its not like i was rewarded for extensive looting. the boss doesnt even attack as far as i could tell, it just slowly approaches and closes off the arena while you fill it with bullets. anyway, after beating this very boring boss that i overprepared for tenfold, i got a new cutscene. the cutscene in question showed two things: leon and claire have escaped raccoon city's zombie apocalypse for one, and for two that a kid claire spent the later half of her run helping and protecting wants claire and leon to adopt her.
all in all, im just pretty irritated that i played the game for so long and wasted like 4 and a half hours to see just about jack shit at the end
